Chapter 106: Rapid Escape

Chapter 106: Rapid Escape

This gave even Michael a fright.

How could one of Anthony's servants seem like the Grim Reaper from legend?

He had a feeling that if he provoked this man in front of him, he might actually get killed.

It wasn't that the man's expression was fierce or his words threatening.

It was precisely that calm expression — like a sea without a single ripple — that made it impossible to gauge just how dangerous he truly was.

Sensing the powerful killing intent hidden beneath Rambo's seemingly calm exterior, Michael didn't dare push any further. He gritted his teeth and turned to look at Anthony nearby, his face twisted with fury.

"So that's how it is. Looks like you planned all of this."

"You raise your hand to hit your own adoptive parents, curse at them without a second thought — Anthony, you really are something else."

Anthony slowly rose to his feet and shot back at him, his expression cold and steady.

"Shut up. You two have no right to say that. You both knew perfectly well from the start that you had no information about my birth parents. You lied to me on purpose — tricked me into agreeing to help you land the Amber District development deal."

"Ha ha ha —"

Michael and his wife burst out laughing. "Anthony, you finally figured it out. But so what? You made a promise, and you have to keep it."

Michael looked smug. Beside him, Alice gritted her teeth, her face full of arrogance. "That's right. A man's word is his bond. Anthony, we hope you'll make good on your promise as soon as possible."

Seeing the ugly look on this couple's faces, Anthony felt nothing but contempt. "The way you two have been acting makes me sick. So what if I break my word? What are you going to do about it?"

"No, please —"

The moment Anthony threatened to back out, Michael and Alice completely panicked.

Right now, Anthony was their last hope.

If their adopted son had started out in their eyes as nothing more than a freshly released ex-convict, that image had quietly changed. He not only knew Annie, the president of a major corporation, but seemed to have a close — possibly romantic — relationship with her. On top of that, the guy was living at Hiram Estate No. 1, one of the most famous properties in all of Colorado.

Sure, the villa belonged to Trent, but the fact that Anthony was living there said a lot.

Didn't that basically mean this kid had a pretty good relationship with Trent?

With connections like that, if they could pressure Anthony into helping, maybe he really did have the power to land them the Amber District deal.

Because relying on just the two of them? They could wait forever and it still wouldn't happen.

"Anthony, how can you go back on your word like this?"

"Exactly — you're a successful man now, living in one of Colorado's most iconic landmarks. If word got out that you can't be trusted, wouldn't that make you a laughingstock?" Michael and his wife put on their smoothest act, but inside they were terrified.

It was obvious that without Anthony's help, the Amber District deal was completely dead.

Seeing the panic written all over this couple's faces, Anthony let out a cold snort.

"Don't think I can't see through your little games. The only reason I'm still agreeing to help you, even after all this, is out of respect for the old master. Otherwise, why would I ever lift a finger for you two?"

Anthony's words hit Michael and his wife like a punch to the gut.

On that point, they had indeed lied to him.

They had assumed he never figured it out — but it turned out he'd seen right through them all along.

Still, what Anthony said also came as a pleasant surprise.

So Anthony was doing this out of gratitude to old Henry. That gave them something to work with.

Alice curled her lip, her expression dripping with disdain.

"Who knew that old fool's habit of always looking out for you would actually pay off for us in the end..."

Before she could finish, she let out a sharp cry. This time it was Anthony who struck her. "Call him an old fool one more time and I'll rip your mouth apart."

"Aah —"

Alice screamed.

Clutching her burning cheek, she was genuinely scared now.

But her old habit of mouthing off wouldn't let her quit. She muttered under her breath.

"What's wrong with calling him an old fool — he was a jerk anyway..."

Smack smack smack —

Several more slaps landed across Alice's face.

This time Anthony grabbed her by the hair, ignoring her screams, and slapped her again and again.

"You disgraceful woman. Don't you ever disrespect the old master. Do you hear me?"

Feeling the full force of Anthony's rage, Alice was terrified.

She had never had any respect for old Henry. Mainly because during his time as head of the family, he had constantly gotten in her way and placed all kinds of restrictions on her — which made her despise him.

So even after Henry had stepped down, Alice's hatred for him had never fully faded.

It slipped out in her words and tone without her even thinking about it.

But now Anthony was coming after her like a man possessed.

With a thud, Alice dropped to her knees in fear.

She hadn't expected that one offhand remark about "that old fool" would send Anthony into such a rage.

He clearly had deep feelings for Henry.

The situation was now crystal clear to her.

Even with her husband right there, he didn't dare say a word in her defense.

With no other option, Alice swallowed her pride and begged on her knees.

"Anthony, please — spare me. I swear I'll never say another bad word about him..."

Smack — one more slap across the face.

"Anthony, I was wrong. I promise I'll watch my mouth from now on. Please, I'm begging you — let me go."

Anthony waved his hand. "Fine. Now get out."

"And another thing — this isn't your home. If you show up here again without warning, pushing me around and making a scene..."

Anthony paused and glanced over at Rambo.

Rambo's expression was one of pure respect. He gave a slight bow.

"Boss, just say the word."

"If they pull this kind of nonsense again, break every bone in their bodies and dump them in the valley for the wolves."

"Understood, Boss. I'll remember that."

"Aah —"

The moment Anthony gave that order, Michael and his wife let out a terrified shriek and bolted for the door.

To them, the most luxurious estate in all of Colorado had suddenly become a place of pure horror. Anthony had actually just given that kind of order.
