Chapter 313: You Will Pay For It
Abigail
My head turned to see Nicolas and Damien with their sleeves rolled up to their elbows, cleaning their hands with towels that were now covered in blood, encouraging me to get to my destination as quickly as possible.
“Stop her, Nicolas!” Sonia's voice appeared. Nicolas stopped and looked up, his eyes catching mine.
The shock was quickly replaced with worry but when he went to grab me, it was too late. I had already run into the room down the hall and slammed the door shut behind me, bolting it with a metal rod. My chest heaved at a dangerous pace as relieved tears welled up in my eyes. I felt relief that I had gotten her, they started banging at the door, their voices begging me not to do anything rash but I wasn't listening. Rodrigo wouldn't have listened either. So why would I? I slowly turned away from the chaos behind the door for my sight to be met with an unconscious body laying on the floor, tied to the wall with rope. He was being treated like the scum he is, he was in such bad shape so bad that he was unrecognizable when I flipped him over and poured a cold bucket of water over his swollen face. Rage filled every nerve in my body, replacing the fear and sorrow I had felt just minutes before when his eyes opened and he sat up, coughing and choking. He got on his hands and knees, groaning in pain and it only angered me further. Seeing him conscious and breathing drew my anger over to Capo, Nicolas and Damien. They should have made it so he wasn't able to move, or speak, only feel. I want him to take every blow, every cut, every bullet I shoot into his body but I don't want him to be able to move or do anything that could make it easier to bear. I want him to be a dead man alive. I kicked him over, making him fall back down and before he could move, I placed my leg on his stomach and my hand grabbed his hair, pulling until he looked at me. His eyes widening and body squirming as hard as he could. It didn't get him very far.
Look at me,” I gritted through my teeth, pulling on the roots of his hair harder.
“Look into my fucking eyes.” He shook his head beneath me, a cry leaving his mouth when I pressed my knees into his stomach.
“I..I am looking.”
“He left the house because of you.” I muttered, holding eye contact.
“He left because all his life, you made him feel embarrassed about what you did to him. You made him believe it was his fault, you manipulated him and you ruined him!” My voice raised.
“And now, he is gone. You killed him, it is your fault.”
He didn't say a word, just looked at me and I felt well up in my eyes as my hands shook
“You killed him, you did!” I screamed at the top of my lungs, making the other side of the door go silent.
“So guess what?” I stood up, going to the other side of the room where a sledgehammer sat on the wooden table along with other objects.
I admired the plain and worn-out handle and the old scratched up metal like it was a golden sword and let out a calm breath as my eyes closed and a fraction of peace that a chapter of my Rodrigo’s pain was going to close.
“You are going to pay for it.”
“Please…” his voice cut off when I slammed the heavy weapon into his face.
“Say it again.” I muttered.
“Beg me to stop.”
He did, screaming and crying the more I hit him mercilessly and I sobbed out.
“He begged you too, he begged you to stop and you didn't. He cried himself to sleep every night, wishing you would leave him alone and you fucking didn't.”
I got a knife and cut rope attached to his ankles.
“Run, run like the fucking pussy you are.” He grinned in pain, crawling away in a hurry. I shook my head, scoffing when he finally got to his feet after struggling and kicking the back of his knee, making him fall once again before bringing the sledgehammer down onto the back of his head, knocking him unconscious.
Blood gushed out into the floor but it didn't satisfy me. I hit him in the same spot, again and again, screaming in anger with each blow and it wouldn't ease the rage. It only made the pain even worse. My body froze when the door was thrown open, the rod breaking half as the three of them burst through. I backed away from James’s body, raising the hummer defensively as they cautiously surrounded me like I was insane but were smart enough to keep a good distance between us. To my left was Damian, on the right Capo and then left front was Nicolas and his warm comforting eyes on mine as he too small and slow stepped toward me with his hands up in surrender.
“Abigail,” he started in a soft and quiet voice.
“Give me the hammer.” I shook my head slowly, tears falling down my face and my heart hump inside of my chest.
“H..he is gone.” I whispered.
“He is gone, Pookie. He is gone.” My gaze switched over to the lifeless body on the ground.
“And it is his fault, he deserves to live the rest of his life worthless life ok pain for it.”
“I know,” he said and nodded in agreement, getting close.
“I know, dear. He is not a good person and I promise you for the rest of his life, he is going to live in misery. But he is not what matters right now, we need to find Muffin, he needs us.” His hands fell gently onto my face and I felt his thumb wiping away the tears before pulling my head into his chest and massaging my scalp with his fingers. I feel his other hand reach down to mine and take a hold of the sledgehammer, handing it off to someone else before fully embracing me.
Over his shoulder, I spotted Sonia and Edith staring at me in worry, tears falling from their eyes. Lucy, whose hands were covering her mouth seemed as if her eyes were threatened with tears as well. A pang of guilt hits my chest when her eyes fell down to her father and tears finally streamed down her face. Yet, I couldn't tell if they were tears of grief or tears of relief. The sight blur as my eyes are covered by the clear liquid and I lower my head, using Nicolas's chest to conceal myself in shame. I heard the shuffling around us but he didn't let me move from his chest, he firmly held me against him when I tried pushing away so I gave up.
