Chapter 312: Stop Her!
Chapter 312: Stop Her!
Abigail
When I tried pulling away to wipe my tears, Luke’s fingers gripped onto mine. I looked at his face to see that his eyes were now open, staring curiously at mine. I tried blinking them away and wiped my cheek against my shoulder, sniffling and cleared my throat.
“Why are you still awake, baby? You must be tried after all the shopping and cooking we did today.”
“Abby?” He whispered.
“Yes?”
“Did James hurt Rodrigo?” He broke eye contact as his hand fondled my fingers, finding my long nails entertaining to play around it.
I sighed and took a moment to find the words but there wasn't much I could say that would filter the situation for him. He was there, he saw enough of what happened so I couldn't lie.
“Yes, Luke, he did but Rodrigo is okay. I don't want you to worry about that, when you see him tomorrow, I want to give him a big hug, okay? It will make him feel so much better.”
He nodded and I smiled through my tears that were hidden in the darkness before leaning down to kiss his head. As I turned and walked away, I closed my eyes for a moment to let out what I had be holding in and in no time, a stream was falling down my cheeks and onto my chest. I close the door behind me and made my way to a room that was a few doits down, empty with nobody else around and let myself inside. I sat on the bed, holding my chest where my heart ached for the love of my life. Nothing but worry and despair filled my mind at thought of what he must be going through right now. I pulled my phone and went to his name, clicking the call button. As expected, I was taken straight to voicemail and took a deep breath before speaking with a weak voice.
‘Hey, Muffin. I know you need space but I want you to remember that I love you and I am so proud of you. Everything is going to be okay, take all the time you need, just please come back home safe. I love you so much.’
I ended the call and set my phone down beside me, seeing a figure standing at the doorway from the corner of my eyes. I turned my head to see Capo, his white shirt now covered in blood.
“Did he answer?” He asked, gesturing to my phone. I shook my head.
“No, are you okay?” He scoffed.
“I doubt Rodrigo ever really talks about me but if he has, it was probably something along the lines of he is the calm one who can handle anything, no matter what it is he can handle anything and to be honest, I agreed with him.” He walked into the room and sat down beside me, staring ahead of us at the ground as a line tear fell down his eyes and then he shook his head.
“But this? I never saw it coming. We…” he paused.
“I failed him, I let him go through all of that and didn't even blink an eye at the idea of inviting James just to het a rise out of the child.”
I looked at him with sympathy.
“I am sure he knows that you weren't trying to internationally hurt him like that, you didn't know what James did…”
The ringing tone of a phone cut me off, he pulled his phone out and the name of someone I wasn't familiar with appeared on the scream.
“I apologize, one second.” He said before standing up and walking towards the window across the room to answer the call.
“What?” He snapped at the person on the other end who seemed to talk in a hurry but I couldn't make out what they were saying.
“Damnit.” he snarled and threw his phone at the wall, making it break into pieces. I stood up in shock, staring wide-eyed at him as he ran his hands through his hair.
“What happened?” I asked, feeling my hands shake and my heart dropped at the look he gave me.
I was already shaking my head in denial as he spoke, the words echoing in my ear and I felt my heart shattered and fall into my stomach, making a sharp and unbearable pain fill my body. It caused my limp to shake. The gut-wrenching feeling had my body feeling so heavy that I fell back against the bed again, bringing my arms around to hug myself. Something between a sob and a scream forced itself out of my mouth as my head started to feel light and everything bunching up into absolute chaos, leaving me conscious and in shock.
“Abigail?”
I ignored the echoing of Capo's voice ringing through my ears and continued my way down the hall, only one face flashing in my mind that I could take my anger and despair out on. Tears fell down my face, making it hard to see as I stumbled down the stairs that seemed to grow longer with each step I took. I pushed every door open, trying to find which one would lead me to the basement where he had taken James to. I passed Sonia and Edith, sitting in the living room and their heads turned towards me in worry but I had left before they could even say my name.
“Stop her, no!” Capo's voice echoes throughout the bottom floor. His footsteps were then accompanied by Edith and Sonia's, except they had no idea why they were running after me.
A furious burn covered the skin of my body, creating an unscratchable itch and becoming more intense with each door I slammed open. By now, the tears had stopped and dried onto my face but wretched sobs still forced their way out of my mouth as my frustrations grew. Finally, after throwing open one last door, the other side revealed a dark stairwell that led to the basement.
“Abigail!” I heard him yell.
Without thinking twice, I threw myself down the stairs, my feet falling harshly against each step. My baby felt like a heavy burden as my hand gripped tightly into the handrail, knowing I would probably stumble down and hurt myself if I didn't. But hurting myself was all I wanted to do right now in the moment of panic. I wanted to hurt myself so badly that I wouldn't be awake for the pain I would have to go through from now until the end of my life. I might as well end it now, right? But there is someone else that needs to go before I do. He has lived a lot brighter than he deserves and I am sick of it.
Skipping the last couple of steps, I rushed down the dark hallway surrounded by metal doors and dreadful grey walls. It screamed death, it reeked of corpses and a soft chili ran down my spine as I walked.
