Chapter 17
The next day we decided we wanted to learn more about the pregnancy. I wanted to laugh because Andrei's face was obviously nervous as we walked into the hospital, so I held his cold hands.
"Why do you look so nervous?" I asked while massaging his hand.
He let out a deep sigh. "I am damn excited to see our baby, fuck!" he silently cursed.
"You're excited but you look constipated." I said while hiding my smile.
"Because it gives me too much excitement baby," he explained like a child.
I just nodded and the smile could not hide on my lips.
"Hi, I'm Miss—Mrs. Villa Cruz. I have an appointment with Dr. De Silva." I informed the nurse on duty.
"Okay, ma'am, please wait for a second," said the nurse.
She smiled at me after she looked at the monitor. "This way, ma'am, Dr. De Silva is inside," she said as she helped us along the way.
She knocked on the door of the room before opening it and peeking inside. I even heard her mention my last name and then looked at us with a smile. "You can come in now. Uhmm, will you take your mister inside, ma'am?"
I nodded to her with a smile and then I simply looked at her name plate.
Azaia De Castro. She'll be my favorite nurse from now on.
We were both surprised because I could not help myself but to pinch her cheek lightly.
"Oh my gosh! I'm sorry." I am ashamed to apologize.
I immediately felt Andrei hugging my waist.
"It's okay, ma'am. It looks like you couldn't stop the excitement on my face," she said then laughed softly.
I covered my face with shame.
I heard my husband silently laugh behind my back.
"Sorry Miss, it looks like our baby likes you." Andrei said, then removed my hands from my face. He slowly lifted my face in his direction.
"It's okay," he said.
They're like magic words; it made me feel good to hear. I looked at the nurse in front of me again, there was still a smile on her face.
I don't know why I felt like her smile told me that everything will be fine, so I was very complacent.
"Let's go," Andrei said then guided me into the room.
The doctor asked me various questions about my period, pregnancy and so on. While she was talking to me, she laid me down on the patients' chair.
She pulled out a machine, that I was sure my baby would see. She was setting everything up until she confronted my husband.
"Come here Daddy," the doctor called Andrei.
I could see the sweat on Andrei's forehead as he walked closer.
When he was next to me, the doctor gently presented us with a monitor, along with the faint noise coming from there.
"Can you see it? Can you hear it?" she asked us, smiling.
We were both speechless as we focused on the monitor in front of us.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I watched it.
My baby...
"As you can see, you still can't totally see their figure because you're still in the early stages of pregnancy," she explained while there were other things going on there. She also explained the size of the baby.
"Their heartbeat is okay. I will prescribe you vitamins and other necessities," the doctor added.
"For now, because you told me that you almost lost it right recently, I recommend that you rest at least two weeks before you return to work. I don't think I need to remind you that heavy work, lack of sleep, and stress in pregnant women is not good. So, as best as you can, avoid it. "
I just nodded while my eyes were still on the monitor.
"Normally, during the first to third months of pregnancy, you will feel morning sickness. So you do not have to be afraid, but still be attentive to your body." She said, then the machine started printing something. Slowly a paper came out of it.
"So congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Villa Cruz," she said with a smile, then handed us the paper.
The tears I was holding back kept falling when the photo of my son was exposed.
"I'm confused," Andrei said seriously which grabbed my attention.
He was seriously looking at my ultrasound photo before turning it over to the doctor.
"Why?" I asked.
Dr. De Silva also looked at him curiously, waiting for Andrei to add something.
"You kept saying 'their'—am I thinking right doctor?" Andrei asked.
"What are you saying?" I asked confused, as I adjusted my clothes.
Dra. De Silva laughed a little. "Yes Mr. Villa Cruz. Seems like your wife is very occupied and she didn't catch everything I said before."
Now the doctor is the one I looked at.
"Fuck! God thank you!" he shouted then hugged me.
I winced.
"Wait what's going on?" I asked as he let go of me.
The doctor laughed again as she watched the two of us.
"Okay let me rephrase, so your wife can understand. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Villa Cruz for having a twins."
Twins...
Twins...
Twins...
"Oh my gosh! My baby is twins?!" I said in shock while crying.
"Yes baby, yes!" Andrei said, then hugged me again.
What a great blessing my lord. Thank you.
"Thank you, baby. Thank you, I'm so fucking happy and thankful in this moment," he said softly, which made me cry.
I am too.
"I will do everything to be a good father to them." He whispered again, then let go of the hug and looked at me.
I sincerely smiled at him.
He cupped my face and wiped my tears. "And I will also do everything to be the best husband to you," he said in teary eyes and slowly kissed my forehead.
"You already are."
After the check-up, we went to the mall to buy things for our home. The smile on my lips has not disappeared since we left the hospital, I feel like this is probably my happiest day.
I grabbed my belly while Andrei was in front of me, pushing a cart.
Daddy even if you do not see my babies, I know you are happy there in heaven with this blessing.
Thank you for giving him to me, Dad. Please guide our marriage.
"Are you okay?" Andrei asked, turning pale as he looked at me and touched my thigh.
I couldn't help but laugh softly at his reaction. I touched his face and kissed his cheek.
"I'm okay don't worry. I'm just thanking Daddy," I explained.
The sadness immediately passed through his green eyes. "I'm sorry, I was not there when you needed me the most," he said.
I hugged him and kissed him again, this time on the lips.
"It's all in the past now. You didn't mean that, so let's forget." I sincerely said.
He caressed my hair. "Thank you for staying, baby. Thank you for believing me. Thank you for trusting me," he mumbled.
"I'm your wife. I will stay no matter what. I will rest, maybe, but I will come back to you." I whispered softly.
That's how fragile I am.
