Chapter 16

I covered my mouth when I finished reading his letter. I repeatedly read it. I never expected him to say those magic words.

I quickly looked for a jacket in my drawer and put it on. I left the room and hurried to the kitchen, where my mother was waiting.

She smiled at me, then showed me the key to his car.

She knew. She knows that I'm coming back.

I accepted it with tears in my eyes, and then hugged her. "Thank you so much, Mom. I love you."

"I love you too, my princess. Be careful driving," she whispered, then kissed me on the forehead. I just nodded, then walked out.

I immediately went to my mom's car and turned it on. I honked my horn first, and then started the car.

I would have called Andrei, but it looks like I left my cellphone in the room.

More than thirty minutes later, I arrived at the building where his unit was. I walked quickly in and took the elevator to get to the floor where our condo was.

I felt nervous as I put the passcode on our door. I did not immediately open it, even though the password clicked and worked.

What if someone else is with him?

What if they are already together?

What if I just force myself in?

I was scared of what I was thinking, so I withdrew my hand. I remained standing outside his unit for a while and I was surprised it opened on its own.

Andrei appeared in front of me. Her eyes widened, and I could smell the liquor on his body. His eyes widened for a moment in shock, but that was also replaced by sadness.

He leaned his head against the side of the door and stared at me. He laughed for a moment before closing his eyes.

"Fuck, I think I'm hallucinating. I really miss my wife." He spoke weakly, then opened his eyes again.

Little by little, tears welled up in his eyes. "I miss her, I miss my wife so much, I miss her and our baby. I love them... I need them." He said emotionally, and his tears continued to flow.

He sat on the floor while crying, so I immediately supported him upright and put him in our unit. I closed the door and took him to sit on the sofa.

Bottles of wine were scattered in the living room, so I got one and threw it in the trash. I took a towel and a basin so I could wipe him.

I supported him upright again, and took him to our room. I was stunned for a moment, and cried because a pair of my clothes were on his bed.

He keeps mumbling something, but I don't understand, so I just took clothes from his closet and started wiping him.

"I love her," he said softly as I wiped his face.

"Who?" was my bitter response.

"My wife," he immediately replied.

I tightened my grip on the towel I was holding and then wiped his neck.

"Name?" I asked while biting my lip.

Slowly Andrei opened his eyes which was directly in front of my eyes. "My wife, Cassandra, I love her and our baby," he said full of emotion.

My tears began to fall. I was stunned for a moment when he wiped them off.

"You're real. You are here." His eyes widened as he memorized my face.

I nodded in tears. "Yes I am," I said.

He quickly picked me up and hugged me. I felt his kiss on my forehead, then pressed his head to the side of my neck. "I'm sorry baby, I'm sorry, please believe me, please." He growled.

I nodded, then let go of his hug.

"Rest now, let's talk tomorrow," I said calmly then smiled for a moment.

I gently stroked his face as he stared at me.

"You won't leave me right?" Traces of fear were in his voice.

I smiled again, then shook. "Rest Andrei."

He slowly closed his eyes. A few seconds later, I could feel his light breathing, meaning that he was asleep.

I removed his polo shirt and replaced it with a household t-shirt, before I laid down next to him.

"Goodnight hubby," I said softly then hugged him.

A few minutes later, I was completely carried away by the darkness.

I woke up to the feeling that someone was caressing my face, so I slowly opened my eyes.

His sad green eyes were exposed to my sight. "Sorry did I wake you up?" he apologized and removed his hand from my face.

Instead of answering him, I just squeezed him more and hugged him. I felt his stiffness, then he hugged me back.

"I thought it was just a dream," he whispered then kissed my head.

I looked up at him and examined his face. Unlike the past, his eyes have improved a bit.

"Hungover?" I asked.

He immediately shook his head. "I already took medicine for the hangover, so I'm okay."

I just nodded and squeezed him again.

Damn it Cassandra. What is happening to you?

"Did you miss me?" he asked softly, as he played with my hair.

I immediately shook. "The baby missed you, not me."

I heard him chuckle before his hug tightened.

"Yeah, the baby, my baby." He said as if he was referring to something else.

I immediately let go and stared at him.

He automatically raised both of his hands. "What?" he wondered, but I didn't know why it sounded like teasing to me.

I just tsked then he turned his back.

"Hey, are you upset?" he asked softly, then hugged me from behind while lying down.

"Who wouldn't? You're teasing me." I said and pouted, as if he could see it.

"I'm sorry, I just missed you," he said, then I confronted him.

"Don't you miss me too?" he muttered.

"I did," I replied, then sniffed again.

Okay, I lose.

He laughed and hugged me again. I was still stunned when he put his hand on my dress and it landed on my belly.

"Thank you for being strong, baby," he spoke.

Tears welled up in my eyes again when he looked at me. "I'm sorry wife."

"Start explaining then," I said softly just enough for him to hear.

He rested deeply before squeezing himself into me.

"I just found out everything she did when you were hospitalized." He began.

"About the annulment paper, about the baby and so on. Baby it's all just a lie."

I shook my head when I heard.

"Believe me when I said I finished everything between us for a long time. The day you first saw us at the coffee shop, I just finished there."

"Liar," I bitterly said.

"I'm not," he said immediately.

I let go of his hug then looked at him seriously.

"Liar, isn't she still calling you even though we are married? You also met in the past."

"Because she asked for my favor, that if I could, I would take her slowly. She's my friend after all, that's why I did the favor until she accepted the truth."

"You were with her when you went to America," I said bitterly.

"She was with the team baby, not literally with me. She is the architect of our company, that's why she is with me."

That woman. He just turned me around.

"She said she's... pregnant," I said then looked at him.

"Argh! Baby that's impossible." He said frustrated, then hugged me.

"And why is that?"

"Because we didn't do it. I treat her as a friend." He whispered.

"Friend? You called her girlfriend." I said bitterly.

"Yeah, I'm a little stupid for that." He said.

"Do you love her?" I asked.

"No. I never did. That's why I did the favor of gradually training her, because I feel guilty. I'm sorry."

"Me?" I said before letting go of him to look at him, face-to-face. "Do you love me?" I asked boldly.

He touched my face, then slowly applied his lips to mine.

He kissed me full of love and respect, then slowly stopped. He pressed our foreheads together as our lips parted.

"So much. I love you so much, Mrs. Villa Cruz," with that, he kissed me again.
