Chapter 106: She Has Good Morals
Just as Grant finished speaking, Maya ran into the house crying. The other family members were all surprised to see the state she was in.
She ran towards Grant and said, "Jack is not picking up my calls anymore. I know that Cindy is hiding him in her house. She did all this just to humiliate me. What is going to happen to me and my unborn child? How can Jack treat his child like this?"
Grant and all the other family members looked at Maya in shock as she cried and sat on the floor.
Spencer could not believe it. How could Maya be pregnant with Jack's child? Could this be a ploy of hers to tie Jack down?
Elvis' wife went to her and lifted her so she could sit on the chair. Grant walked closer to the chair and asked, "Are you pregnant, Maya?"
"Yes," Maya replied.
Grant became very happy. He had wanted a grandchild for so long but Elvis and his wife hadn't been able to give him any.
Spencer was not married yet married so he was still hoping for Elvis and his wife. Jack was the last person he expected to bring him so much happiness. This was a dream come true for him.
He looked at Spencer and said, "How could Jack treat the mother of his child like this? Call him immediately. I want him here right now."
Spencer's fiancee just crossed her legs and quietly watched the drama that was unfolding before her.
Spencer didn't believe Maya's claim at all. He thought that Jack's phone was still switched off so he called Cindy's number.
When she answered he said, "Jack, Maya is here and she claims to be pregnant with your child. Dad wants you here right now to know why you stood her up."
When Spencer ended the call, Grant stared at him angrily, "Are you trying to insinuate that Maya is lying? Do you think she is one of the cheap loose girls? Maya is from a good family and I know that she has good morals so show her some respect."
Spencer nodded his head while Maya said, "Spencer, I know you don't like me but I promise you that this child is Jack's. It wasn't planned but it happened accidentally. Even Jack knows the truth and that's why he asked me to marry him.
I know that Cindy must have done something to make Jack stand me up. I know it's not Jack's fault but Cindy's."
Spencer stood up angrily and said, "Stop dragging Cindy into everything. You knew that Jack was dating Cindy and was in love with her yet you tried to come in between them under the guise of friendship.
You deserve everything that has happened to you today. And you want to know why I don't like you? It's because you are a hypocrite. You are fake and my greatest desire for Jack has always been for him to see who you truly are. A pretentious bitch."
Maya bent her face and began to cry again while Grant grabbed Spencer by the collar and threatened to slap him.
Jack entered the house at that moment and stood by the door watching them all.
When Cindy had told him about Spencer's call, she had offered to come with him but he refused. He didn't want Grant to mistreat her in any way or call her names as that was certainly going to make him lose his temper.
He had initially felt that all the evidence he gathered against Maya was a waste as he didn't get the chance to expose her before other people.
He felt very happy when he heard that she had gone to his father. This was not just an opportunity to expose Maya's true colors to everyone, it was also an opportunity to prove to his father that a person's character wasn't always determined by their family background.
He walked closer to Grant who had not yet seen him and freed his hands from Spencer's collar.
When Grant realized that Jack had arrived, he focused his attention on him and gave him a hard slap on his face.
Jack held his face and stared at his dad before saying, "Wow! Dad, you slapped me even before you heard what I have to say. I hope you don't regret it."
Grant squeezed his face and replied, "That slap is for inviting us to your engagement party and not showing up. What do you take this family for? How could you humiliate us in this way? Do you have any idea the impact your actions would have on our reputation?"
Jack smiled bitterly and replied, "First of all, I don't remember inviting you to any engagement party. Spencer was the only one I asked to come and I had my reasons for that.
You made the decision to attend on your own and it had nothing to do with me so don't try to blame me for any embarrassment you may have suffered."
