Chapter 20: CHP.20-A Trend Forms
Zeke, Serenity and myself all sat on the one side of the table. Simply looking at the three new females sitting across from us.
It seemed this was starting to become a trend.
The three females varied in age, the youngest looking to be around 17, the middle one appeared to be 21, with the oldest around, who seemed to have a mark upon her neck, being 24. I briefly wondered what happened to her mate. They all had the same caramel coloured hair, with light green eyes. The similarities between them obvious. Sisters then.
Their eyes seemed to investigate us as much as we investigated them, a mix between curiosity and awe dancing across their features.
"Who are you?" Zeke decided to end the weird checking out with his trademark question.
"I'm Lilly, this is Avery and Willow. We're here for the Luna." The eldest one spoke, indicating to the sister beside her and then the youngest seated at the end.
"Let me guess, you heard about this Luna and felt the need to go find her. Like an invisible force was pulling you towards her?" Zeke spoke the words he had heard from Serenity when she had turned up at our door. They all nodded in unison. Zeke sighed before rubbing his fingers into his temples. I reached across to lay my hand on the back of his neck to try and soothe him.
I understood his stress. Three new females meant more chances of male wolves trying to get into the pack. More chances of an issue arising. And of course, there was also the chance the females weren't who they said they were. Or weren't here for the reason they came.
But my instinct was telling me they truly were here for safety and it wouldn't make sense for someone to send in three she-wolves for some evil scheme they had plotted.
The stretched silence seemed to make the she-wolves uncomfortable, so I decided to try and ease them.
"Well, my name is Cecil, this is Serenity and of course you know my mate, Alpha Zeke." I was quick to lay down the word mate. Zeke was an impressive male and I didn't want these she-wolves getting interested. Even if the eldest bore a mark and the younger two seemed too scared to even look at him.
"We would be more than happy to take you guys in. You may stay here, we will keep you safe." I nodded at them in reassurance and they all seemed to deflate in relief. It was a big thing to hear those words these days; 'you're safe'. Especially when you're a female.
"How did you guys manage to stay together for so long, and without being caught?" Serenity asked the question, but I had to admit I was thinking the same thing.
"We were in hiding, constantly moving. We had a few males with us but we were recently attacked by a small band of wolves. Us three females managed to get away, but..." I could see where the sentence was going.
"I'm sorry to hear that," I spoke the words softly, wanting to offer my sympathies and soothe their feelings, Lilly's eyes watered slightly as she processed what I said.
"Was one your mate?" Zeke asked, seemingly unable to read her emotions as he brought up the brutal question.
"Zeke," I scolded him for his lack of sensitivity.
"No, it's ok," Lilly breathed out, "yes, Isaac. He was my mate, and he held the wolves off with three of his friends. He died from his wounds. It was a few months ago now." Lilly smiled sadly. The room seemed to swell with the sadness radiating off the three females. It seemed, similar to the rest of us she-wolves, they had also had a rough time trying to avoid males. I decided they needed a distraction from their thoughts.
"Would you like something to eat?" Food always seemed to help soothe the emotions, and I know it always made me feel better. They all nodded. Looking over their figures it seemed they could use it. All were thin, with a small amount of muscle. Like me, they must have lived off hunting while they moved.
Zeke was quick to organize dinner and soon enough the young teenage wolves walked in, all carrying trays of food. The boys nearly seemed to have a heart attack as yet again they seemed to be serving more unfamiliar females. I couldn't help but crack a small smile as the youngest one, Willow I think, blushed immensely as the boys placed the trays on the table before us.
A second meal of the night couldn't hurt.
We were all quick to dish up the deliciously cooked deer meat and steamed vegetables, with Zeke placing some food on my plate in an act of care. Lilly cast her eyes from the scene. The girls seemed starving but waited patiently for Zeke to begin eating.
He was the Alpha.
The second he placed a piece of broccoli into his mouth they dug in, tearing through the food on their place in haste. I watched in amusement as Avery growled at Willow for getting to close to her plate.
These females were very instinctual, that was for sure. But I was certain we would become good friends soon.
