Chapter 132: Sabine
"Don't touch that," Sabine said and collected her bones from Bernice.
"Okay, I was only looking at it," Bernice said and took a small meteorite rock from the counter.
"And don't touch that," Sabine said, grabbing the rock from her and returning it to its former position.
"Okay, okay, I won't touch anything," Bernice raised her palms to the air and retreated to the sitting room.
Sabine let out a deep breath, feeling exasperated.
Three weeks had passed since Bernice appeared in her house full of tears and looking all different.
She had consoled her and agreed to help her. But Bernice was a handful. It was not easy trying to contain her excess energy.
Sometimes, she felt like she was raising a toddler who was curious about life and wanted to try everything out.
She was funny, outspoken and the life of a party. Her company was enjoyable and she was fun to be around. It would have been less stressful if she could learn her boundaries.
Sabine's eyes flipped to her sitting in the living room, she had begun playing a ludo table game by herself.
A smile turned up Sabine's lips, she was beginning to cope with her new nature.
Thinking back, to when she had first arrived. She had cried non-stop for days and refused to look at any mirror or anything at all that reflected her image.
Bernice had begged her to change her back into a human. That she should remove the curse from the dragon plant and return to her human nature.
Sabine had tried all the remedies she knew, concocting different portions and conducting rituals on her. None had proven effective.
So she had given up and asked the bones. Previously, when she asked the bones for a way to cure her. It had remained silent, revealing nothing to her. After trying her best and failed. She decided to ask the bones to speak to her about Bernice.
That was when the bones finally revealed to her a hidden secret.
She saw Bernice as a young baby with hair as white as snow, small tiny claws, pointed ears, and eyes that went from blue to white when she was happy or sad.
A woman's face that she could not clearly see, had begged on her knees to a male Sorcerer. To make her child human;
"Please conceal my daughter's heritage and make her human," the woman pleaded.
"What you ask for is permanent and cannot be reversed when done," the sorcerer had warned.
"I do not care, I just want her to survive," the woman insisted impatiently.
So, the Sorcerer had collected the young babe from the arms of the mother and performed a ritual that removed her heritage, and made her mortal.
In the end, she had discovered Bernice's true nature which was what the dragon plant had restored back to her during the healing process.
Undoing the Sorcerer's spell.
Little wonder, she had felt some kind of essence around Bernice the first time they met. Her innate energy had been locked up.
When she had broken the news to her, Bernice had been mortified to find out she was actually an amortal by birth. Her original nature. A cloud nymph by heritage, one of the rarest species of nymphs.
She had been interested in finding out about the mother who had turned her human and abandoned her at an orphanage, but the bones had stayed silent, unwilling to divulge more.
Perhaps the time was not yet right, for when it was time, the bones would always speak.
Bernice had felt sad for a few days, unable to accept her new self. But gradually, as the days went by, her spirit had picked up and she was back to being her usual happy self.
Now that they were able to resolve that piece of the puzzle, one thing remained. It was how to get Bernice the hell out of her house.
She had just turned to her cabinets to pull out a dried piece of mushrooms and when she turned back, she saw Bernice in her kitchen area, holding a dead beetle in her palm.
How did she get here so quickly?
"Enjoying your supernatural speed?" Sabine raised an eyebrow as she collected the beetle from her and set it beside her pot.
"I guess being a nymph has its little perks," she mused.
"You can't stop touching my stuff, can you?" Sabine sighed.
"Common Sabine, I want to learn this witch stuff you do," Bernice winked at her.
"No thank you, I am not looking for interns at the moment," she brought out a can of pink salt "Besides, just because you are now amortal doesn't mean you can do magic."
"But I can learn the basic stuff, can't I?"
She exhaled "When are you planning on going back home?"
Bernice feigned a frown "You are tired of me already?"
"I am not tired per se, I just enjoy my privacy," Sabine tried to explain.
"Can you put up with me a little longer, I promise to stay away from your stuff," Bernice raised her right hand to swear.
Sabine raced her eyes to the roof "Why don't you want to return? You haven't seen Candice since recovered."
"That is precisely why I don't want to go back. I don't want to get her all worried about my new change. I need more time to get used to it."
"But you can get used to it over there, on plane Weode," Sabine insisted.
"And leave this lovely plane? Never, Misty plane is more fun for me than plane Weode," Bernice refused.
Sabine closed her eyes and opened it "if you don't want to go back to plane Woede, then go back to your home on the earth plane. At least that's what you said when you got here."
"Rojan said is not safe for me there because of Wayne's enemies. I might eventually go back there, but I think right now may be a little too soon to be safe," Bernice shrugged a shoulder.
"That is it, I am not doing this anymore," Sabine's nostrils flared with exasperation. She wiped her hands on her apron, removed it from her neck, and walked into her living room.
Bernice followed her movement with her eyes.
She grabbed her coat from the lobby and slung it over her shoulders, then picked up her handbag that was hanging down from the coat stand.
"What are you going?" Bernice inquired.
"I am taking you back to plane Weode," She announced.
"I am not going back there," Bernice refused vehemently.
"Then I will go get Rojan to come and take you back himself," Sabine told her.
"Don't do it Sabine," Bernice shook her head.
"What should I not do? Take you back or go get Rojan?" Sabine asked.
"Both."
"Why not?" She folded her arms under her breasts.
Bernice's face fell and her mood grew sad, "I don't want to see Rojan."
Sabine cocked her head to the side "Why?"
"Because…because I am a nymph and he hates nymphs. I can't bear to see him look at me with disgust just like he did on planet Uranus."
A knowing look entered Sabine's eyes.
Bernice had feelings for Rojan. And from the look of things, they had a falling out on Uranus. No wonder she had looked so depressed and sorrowful when she first got here.
Another thing that had raised her hunches, was the fact he did not come with her. The Rojan she knew would not have sent Bernice here by herself. He would be holding her hand and leading the way.
Oh poor Bernice, did she not know that Rojan stayed away from women?
