Drama With Claire
CHAPTER 190
ZYLIAH'S POV
"Ask me what?" Claire halted on the spot to cast Grandma Charlotte an unpleasant stare.
She didn't look too happy. Wherever she had gone to might not have been as pleasant as she had hoped for.
I stared at the flash drive in Sayge's possession. What could it possibly contain?
"What is this?" Grandma Charlotte pointed to the device in Sayge's hand.
She spotted it, and I thought I saw panic flash through her features before it was replaced by a clueless frown that I instantly knew was fake. "I have no idea."
"Really?" Grandma Charlotte didn't sound surprised. The woman already probably had prepared herself for the lies and denial. "Zyliah, go into my room and get my laptop. It's on the long sofa."
As soon as I stood to go get it, Claire started for the stairs. Sayge was swift enough to stop her before she reached the staircase.
"Leave me alone!" She struggled against Sayge's hold.
"Tell me, what's this, Claire?" Sayge asked, his eyes glaring at hers as he tightened his hold on her wrist.
"Fine, if you want to know. It's a recording of us having sex," she spat, not even with a sense of remorse.
Stunned, I returned to stand before her. "Really, Claire? Really? You're that desperate?"
"Get off my face, you bitch! You think you can have Sayge all to yourself, right? Over my dead body will I let that happen." She literally poured spit on me.
Sayge handed me his handkerchief to wipe her spittle off my face.
My blood churned, and my chest tightened with a flaming sensation. "You should be thankful you're pregnant, or else I'd have beaten the shit out of you and thrown you out of this house, fool!"
She cackled dryly, as though mocking. "You seem to forget who's pregnant with his child."
Sayge was about to say something, but I nudged him to be quiet. I took over. "Guess what, my darling?"
She glared.
I neared Sayge, and he turned his head so he was facing me. I went on tiptoe and kissed him. He was all the more happy to oblige.
If her eyes could produce lasers, I'd be dead by now.
"See, Claire, it took a special someone to make me realize that no matter what, Sayge and I are meant to be. No, make that two special people." I glanced gratefully at Grandma Charlotte. "You have always been the genesis of the problem, Claire. And now, what you are is pregnant. Baby trapping a man?" I scoffed. "In this day and age? Wow. And you call me a bitch. How pathetic can you get? Well, that baby inside of you is innocent and will always be welcomed. In fact, I'll love that child to bits and pieces. But you see, Sayge? Nah, I'm ready to go tooth and nail with you, Claire, and we all know how that will go. Meaning, I'll win that particular fight."
"You stand there and let her talk to the mother of your child this way?!"
"I care about that child, Claire. Not you. Zyliah is right. You are the genesis of our problem, but no more. It's all over for you, Claire."
"Eight years of my life, Sayge! Eight fucking years!" She cried bitterly. "I abandoned my dreams for you."
"No one asked you to. And I never exclusively asked you out. We never officially dated. In fact, during the period of those eight years, was I the only man you fucked?" Sayge threw at her.
She kept mute, unable to answer, tears running down her face.
"Answer me! Was I the only one you jumped into bed with?!"
"But you were the only one that mattered!"
As though we'd rehearsed it, all three of us erupted into dry, mocking laughter.
Shame and humiliation spread over her features.
"Tell this bitch to leave this house, Sayge. She's worse than the devil," I suddenly uttered with every seriousness. "You can keep sending her money every month till she gives birth. After she's delivered, we'll decide what to do next."
"I support Zyliah, and I'll tell you why." Grandma Charlotte stepped forward. "Recently, one of the maids told me she couldn't keep the secret anymore, as it was eating her up inside. She said she saw Claire throw the boys into the pool. To her surprise, the boys didn't struggle or anything. She said Claire saw her and threatened to kill her if she said anything. Which brings me to ask this—what did you..."
The question was barely out of Grandma Charlotte's mouth when I released a punch on Claire's face in blind anger upon hearing that.
Momentarily forgetting she was pregnant, I made to lunge at her but was stopped in time by Sayge and Grandma Charlotte, who held me from behind.
She was lucky to still be standing because Sayge's hand was holding her wrist.
"Leave her, darling. She's not worth it. Also, she's carrying a child. Let's consider that." Grandma Charlotte calmed me down.
"My kids would have almost died because of her wickedness! What did my children do to you?!" I yelled at her. "Do you know what I went through during their pregnancy? The labor pains?! Are you stupid?! Why are you this evil?!"
She held her bleeding nose but couldn't say anything. Right now, she knew she couldn't afford to be smart-mouthed with her secret out.
"You should be arrested," Sayge told her in a quiet but angry tone.
"How did no one ever find out?" I wondered out loud.
"I think we should put cameras outside the house." Grandma Charlotte said. Then to Claire, she directed, "Did you drug the kids before throwing them in the pool? I mean, they play in the pool all the time, so it would be hard for them to drown."
She didn't say anything.
"Answer her!" Sayge bellowed.
She flinched, tears running down her eyes. "Y-yes."
Grandma Charlotte held me back, noting my move to go hit her again.
"This isn't over, Claire. I'll be waiting for you to deliver this child, then you'll see," I threatened.
Sayge called a maid. He told her to get other maids, and together, they should pack Claire's belongings and take them to the gate.
Oslaz wheeled in then. His eyes observed the surroundings, and a puzzled brow quirked. "What's going on?"
Grandma Charlotte quickly did a rundown of the whole event to him.
He went from being excited to annoyed; now he was seeing red. "Get this girl out of this house! Once she gives birth, she'll be arrested and that child taken from her."
"No. Please, I'm sorry, Sayge, please. I do not want to leave."
"Why?" Oslaz put in his expression a derisive sneer. "You have a wealthy mother. Go to her house and stay there until you give birth. I can't trust your presence in this house anymore. You're evil. You should be lucky I'm not choosing to throw you in prison and leave you there till you give birth."
"I can't. All my friends are now pursuing their dreams. Do you want them to laugh at me? No, I can't! I have wasted eight years. I am going nowhere! I never wanted to get pregnant, not because I am barren, but because children were never part of what I wanted. But I had to, just to make him marry me, and now you're chasing me? To where?! I'm going nowhere!" She cried, her face set stubbornly.
"Who asked you to leave your home and friends and dreams to follow a man who doesn't want you?!" Grandma Charlotte quipped. The woman was ready to explode on Claire.
She was acting insane. "I don't care! My life is now revolved around Sayge, and I am marrying him, or I'll do something drastic!"
"Why did you attempt to drown the kids?" Oslaz asked, his voice calm and reasonable, though his expression still showed his anger. "Are they the ones stopping you from marrying Sayge?"
"No. But their mother is." She glared at me; the look in her eyes was certainly loony. "If only they had drowned, Sayge would be devastated and would want more kids. Now that I'm pregnant, he'd have been happy to have replacements. Plus, for all the troubles Zyliah has put me through, she deserved to be hurt as well. And as for the sex tape, I didn't really want to post it. I mean, I love Sayge, and he'll be the father of our child, so I can't humiliate him like that. It's just to scare him."
The way she was speaking as though she didn't see anything wrong in whatever she had done...
"This girl needs help," Oslaz commented, at a loss for what to say further. "I don't think she's right in the head anymore."
"If I've lost it, it's because Sayge wants to ruin my life! It's because he won't love me no matter all my sacrifices." She broke down in tears.
At this point, my anger had dissipated, leaving space for bewilderment.
Sayge and I exchanged looks.
The maids brought out all of her things and dragged each box to the gate.
"We found this, ma'am." A maid handed a small bag to Grandma Charlotte and then proceeded to drag a piece of purple luggage towards the door.
She unzipped the bag.
"Give that to me!" Claire reached out to grab the bag, but Grandma Charlotte moved it out of her reach.
She brought out two packets of... cocaine?!
"What the hell?" Sayge was stunned.
"Was this what you drugged into the boys' system?" Oslaz asked.
She shrugged.
And that was answer enough for us. God! I wished I could hit her. I controlled myself.
"You drugged my kids?!" Sayge raged.
She let out a cry of pain. He was intentionally putting hard pressure on her wrist.
"Did the doctors notice it in their system?" I asked.
"Yes, though not directly." Grandma Charlotte replied, still in shock herself. "He mentioned them being under the influence, but we didn't pay much mind because we believed no one was using. I know Claire is crazy, but I never thought she was using. It never occurred to me that she was."
"Take her out of here, Sayge. This girl is a danger to everyone, including herself. I simply pity the child in her womb. I hope it doesn't come out deformed or even dead." Oslaz said. He was more or less disgusted.
"This is my house! I am going nowhere!" Claire screamed as Sayge dragged her out.
