The Flash Drive
CHAPTER 189
GRANDMA CHARLOTTE'S POV
"It is done, Mama Charlotte," my godson informed me over the speaker.
"They are back together?" I wanted to confirm.
"Yes, they are," came his response.
A relieved sigh escaped. "Oh, that's great news. Thank you so much, my darling. You're the absolute best."
A laugh. "Anything for you, Mama Charlotte."
I wasn't deceived by his laugh. He liked Zyliah. Really liked her. The moment he had set eyes on Zyliah, I'd seen it.
But I knew with Sayge already in love with her and vice versa, he had no chance. So I had to ask him to help me. He knew what he was getting himself into, but he still did it and completed it successfully.
Sayge wasn't stupid. He had probably realized that Kevin's feelings for Zyliah were real, which had heightened his jealousy until he sought to be reasonable.
I was so glad it was all over. But I was sad for my godson.
"You'll find a good girl, Kev. She'll love you as you deserve," I encouraged him. "Even better, my love."
"Zyliah is a good girl. I wish Sayge didn't love her genuinely. I'd have fought him tooth and nail." Silence. "But then, Mama Charlotte, how can I fight true love? I don't want to be that person. Fynn is an idiot; I am not."
I felt bad for him. He didn't need to tell me how he was feeling for me to know. I began to blame myself. It was partly my fault for putting him in this mess.
Although I was surprised that in such a short period of time, he'd grown feelings for Zyliah.
"I'm sorry." It sounded lame, but it was all I could offer for now.
"Nah, it's okay, Mama Charlotte. There's nothing to be sorry for. I'm glad I was able to help them realize how much they love each other. That's reward enough."
"You'll be fine," I told him.
"I know, Mama Charlotte. I know."
"Are you still with them?" I wanted to know.
"No. I'm home already. I'll have one of my boys send the car back to your house," he said.
"What car?"
"Sayge left his car here at my place. We left for Zyliah's house with mine."
"Alright, darling." A knock came on the door, taking my attention temporarily from the call I was on. "Who's that?"
"It's me, Yvonne, ma'am."
"I suppose you have a visitor," Kevin chipped in.
A soft chuckle escaped me. "Nothing ever gets by you."
I could see his smile. "Talk to you later, Mama Charlotte. Take care."
"I love you, Kevin."
"You know I love you too, Mama Charlotte."
The call ended.
I hoped he'd get the woman of his dreams. To the outside world, he was the cold, ruthless business guy. Not to forget the fact that he was an infamous Mafia Don. But he was a softie at heart with an overflowing love and loyalty for those he called family.
"Come in, Yvonne." That was one of the maids.
She entered.
"Were you able to get it?"
She nodded, quickly bringing out a recorder from her pocket. "I searched for a long time, ma'am. But I found it in her makeup box."
I examined the device in my hands. That crazy bitch.
"Thank you, dear." I got up from the sofa. "Wait a moment." I went into my room and searched my purse for some cash.
I found some and came out and handed it to her. "For a job well done. Thank you, Yvonne."
She was elated over the cash. I could tell she hadn't been expecting it. "I'm so grateful, Grandma Charlotte. Thank you."
"It's okay. How's your mom? Is she getting better?" I tried to make it my business to know the household staff on a more personal level.
"Yes. I'm glad the doctors were able to discover the growth on time. She's okay now, and I have you and Mr. Williams Sr. to thank."
I wrapped her in a hug. Oslaz and I had contributed to her mother's health when it had been found she was showing signs of early-stage ovarian cancer. "It's fine."
She left.
I decided to connect the flash drive to my computer. I had never trusted Claire; when I had eavesdropped on her argument with Sayge just before he left the house a few hours back, I knew she must be up to something.
I was glad Sayge had asked for forgiveness today. Taking responsibility for his misdeeds was always what I'd wanted.
He was a good businessman. Loved his family, but he was, more often than not, either oblivious or insensitive.
I grabbed my laptop and plugged the flash drive in, searched for it, and played.
My jaw almost dropped at what was playing before me. I was so appalled that I closed the computer, my anger brewing.
This was a sex video of her and Sayge. And Sayge didn't seem like himself. Though he moved in a way that gave the idea of mutual participation, because I knew him too well, he behaved like he was on drugs.
This Claire was nothing short of a wicked bitch. She wanted to ruin Sayge's life if he didn't marry her. What in the world?! She was exactly like her mother!
That call she was making that day I was walking by—I didn't know who it was, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was her mother. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if her mother had a hand in this.
Her mother would have also tried to push herself on Oslaz but for my intervention. I'd seen through her pretend niceness and decided to pull the plug on whatever she had been having with my son.
Now her daughter wanted to ruin my grandson. Claire would soon discover this would be the biggest mistake she would ever make.
I removed the flash drive, switched off my laptop, and left my room, the flash drive in the back pocket of my jeans.
I asked for a glass of champagne. Oslaz had gone out to see a friend. It was just me and the maids at home.
Nearing the living room, I heard footsteps and playful voices. My lips automatically curved. By the time they all emerged from the foyer, I was beaming.
"Great Grandma!" all three kids squealed, bouncing the rest of the way into my already waiting arms as I squatted to receive them.
"My princess and princes! How have you been?" I peppered them with kisses.
I had missed their giggles. "Welcome, my babies."
"We're here to stay, Great Grandma!" Casper, who was wearing his father's cap that was too big for his head, announced with as much enthusiasm as a five-year-old could.
I raised my eyes to Sayge and Zyliah, who stood side by side, both faces glowing with love for each other. Sayge nodded. "Yes, Granny. It's true. She and the kids have agreed to move in with me."
"There was no agreement. He ordered our relocation. More or less." Though she tried to sound tough and annoyed, the humor and deep affection dancing in Zyliah's gaze gave her away.
"I'm happy." Truly, I was overjoyed.
"And I'm guessing the reason why you're not surprised is because you already know, don't you? Kevin must have called to inform you that your plan worked." Zyliah quirked a brow.
She didn't look offended. She was too in love to be offended.
Good for her.
"It's either that or have two young people in love live in regret and with sullen expressions for the rest of their lives."
They didn't try to defend it.
"There's something I'd like to show and tell you," I said to Sayge and Zyliah.
The kids ran off, going to look for their nannies because they'd missed them.
"What is it, Gran?" Sayge's brows knitted in curiosity.
I motioned for them to sit. They obeyed.
I produced the flash drive from my back pocket. "Here."
Sayge took it. "What's this?"
Just as I was about to answer, I heard familiar footsteps. I waited until she came into view. "Ask her."
