Chapter 13: A Very Bright Light Bulb
"Oh no, not an idol, a male god. The male god actually asked me out for dinner, Amelia, ah ah ah, I'm so thrilled!"
Amelia moved the phone away from her ear until Ashley stopped screaming, then brought it back to her ear.
"Well, I wish you a successful date and hope you can win over your male god. But who is this male god you're talking about? I don't remember him."
Over the phone, Ashley's voice softened like Linda.
"It's Anthony, the senior from the student council. He was a senior and went to college last year."
Amelia suddenly remembered and widened her eyes in surprise.
"Oh, I remember now. Is he the one you shouted about when we were drinking and you were sobbing like crazy?"
Ashley felt embarrassed.
"Oh gosh, you have such a good memory. Yes, it was because he was going to college and I was really sad. A few days ago, I ran into him while eating tacos, and then we exchanged contact information, and then..."
"And then you started talking to each other?"
Amelia teased, but she also felt happy for Ashley. Ashley was her only best friend, and of course she was happy when her best friend could be with someone she liked.
"You lucky woman, it really makes people envious. Have a great date."
But Ashley sounded dejected.
"Amelia, will you accompany me?"
"What?"
Amelia was speechless.
"Lady, it's not good to bring me along on your date. Besides, haven't you seen what they say online, 'fireproof, theft-proof, and friend-proof.' I won't join in the fun."
Ashley laughed on the phone.
"That's just a plastic friendship. If there really was a man trying to come between me and my best friend, I would choose my best friend!"
Amelia laughed too.
"Amelia, please accompany me. I can't do it alone. I'm nervous. Please, Amelia...please"
Ashley begged, and Amelia couldn't resist. She also wanted to see what kind of person Ashley liked and help her vet him.
Amelia quickly got off the bed and went to freshen up.
As she left the bedroom, she found Ms. Linda in the kitchen, washing up, when Ms. Linda saw her, she smiled especially brightly.
"Amelia, are you awake? How did you sleep?" Amelia thought about the grilled fish she didn't get to eat, feeling a bit upset, but it wasn't worth mentioning.
She smiled and said, "Ms. Linda, you're back?" Ms. Linda walked over and looked at Amelia's feet seriously.
Amelia immediately froze and quickly turned around to go back to her room to put on slippers.
"Ms. Linda, I have to go out for a while. If I come back late and Mr. Kingsley is here, please let him know."
Mr. Kingsley? Ms. Linda felt that Amelia's way of addressing him was too formal. They were living together, could this be a little couple's playfulness? She couldn't help but sigh and feel old, not understanding young people.
Amelia quickly washed up and packed her things. She took off the expensive nightgown she was wearing and put on her original clothes.
She grabbed her bag and was ready to leave.
Ms. Linda came out from the kitchen. "Amelia, I made jujube and goji berry tea for you to take." Amelia looked at the cup, it was the one Damien gave her, very delicate, with a straw and quite large.
It felt comfortable in her hand and wouldn't burn her. "I'm going out to eat with friends, I don't need to bring my own water, right?"
Ms. Linda said seriously, "You have to bring it. Don't drink too much outside, those drinks may have artificial colors and other random things. Besides, we don't know who these people outside are. What if someone puts something in it? What will you do then?"
Amelia's mouth twitched, why did it feel like she was in a spy drama? The streets were full of strangers, why would someone harm her? But she knew Ms. Linda had good intentions, so she took the cup.
"Alright, I will be careful. Thank you, Ms. Linda."
Ms. Linda walked Amelia to the door and reminded her to come back early. If she came back late, she should call young master and have him pick her up. Amelia agreed to all of her suggestions before finally leaving.
Damien's apartment complex was quite far from the bus stop. Amelia walked for quite a while before reaching the bus stop.
She checked and realized that she had to transfer twice to get to the place Ashley mentioned.
After more than an hour on the bus, Amelia finally arrived. Ashley was already there, standing at the intersection waving at Amelia. Amelia hurriedly walked over and Ashley immediately hugged her.
"Amelia, I finally see you. How have you been these past few days? Where have you been staying? I asked before, but you wouldn't tell me. I was really worried about you."
Amelia felt warm in her heart and hugged Ashley, smiling. "I'm doing fine, really. No need to worry."
Ashley looked at Amelia, still wearing her old T-shirt and faded jeans. Her complexion had improved, and she no longer had dark circles under her eyes. She did look better than before, which reassured Ashley slightly.
"Never mind, if you don't want to tell me, I won't ask. Do you have any money with you? I'll give you 300 dollars. You can spend it first, and if it's not enough, you can find me again."
Amelia looked at the money Ashley handed to her, and suddenly thought of Judy. She had never been willing to give her even a hundred dollars, while she always bought expensive branded clothes for her brothers.
Amelia's clothes were always cheap. She had never complained because she didn't think it was necessary. She didn't care what kind of clothes she wore as long as they were clean and covered her body.
However, even though she was obedient, she never gained any affection from Judy. Amelia even started to doubt if she was Judy's biological child.
She handed the money back to Ashley.
"Ashley, I still have money left. I'll come to you when I run out."
Ashley looked at her. "You really have money?"
Seeing Amelia nod, she didn't say anything more. She put the money in her pocket and pulled Amelia along.
"Let's go quickly. I saw Anthony go inside. We shouldn't keep him waiting. Hurry up."
Amelia had to run along as she was being pulled by Ashley. She couldn't help but look down at her stomach, feeling a bit anxious.
"Ashley, don't run. Why don't you go in first, and I'll walk slowly and meet you inside?"
Ashley didn't know that Amelia was pregnant, and she couldn't think of that possibility. Moreover, they always rushed like this, so she didn't let go of Amelia.
"Oh no, I will get nervous if I go in alone. You have to accompany me. Let's hurry, what if he leaves?"
Ashley pulled Amelia into a nearby restaurant. Amelia's attention was solely focused on her stomach, so she didn't even notice that it was a spicy Lobster restaurant.
Finally, Ashley let go of Amelia. Amelia quickly held onto a chair to stabilize herself and catch her breath. Her hand unconsciously touched her stomach, as if comforting herself. But in reality, her stomach was still flat, just a small bean since she was only one month pregnant. She didn't feel anything. Amelia was just consoling herself.
