Chapter 81: Chris's warning
Chapter 81: Chris's warning
Rafael's POV
I frowned after parking my car. The man that walks out of the main door is Chris. The man was arranged as a marriage partner for Ellasandra. But my wife changes her name and keeps her identity hidden because of me. She chooses me over him.
"What are you doing in my house?"
He scoffs and glares after. "What do you think? I'm here to take who's supposed to be my wife," Chris replied. I calm myself and try not to start any fistfight.
"She's my wife. She is still my wife. Stop bothering Ella. I know she already told you that," I remarked. He grabs my collar and speaks.
"I made my investigation and learned how you treated her three years ago. Are you even a human, huh?" Chris asks. I grab his wrist. I already and deeply regret what I did. I've been doing my best to be a good husband now.
"I regret what I did. That's why now that she's back, I'm atoning for my sins. But you," I paused.
"Stay away from my wife. I am not giving her to anyone, even you," I continued.
Chris scoffed, and his fist landed on my face. He was about to punch me again, but my palm stopped his fist. "I have no time arguing with you. Just leave," I stated.
I let go of his hand and step back. I know Ella doesn't want me to resort to such a thing as much as possible. Chris was still a kid she grew up with. They shared memories and bonding moments that can't be erased.
"I understand that you want to keep her safe from the monster I once was. All I can promise is that I'll never go back to that version of myself. She and our son are safe in my hands," I calmly stated.
I also did my investigation. Chris Peterson was also an heir of a billionaire family. They are neighbors, and their moms are best friends. I haven't met my in-laws yet, but I know that Ella didn't hide the truth. I'll surely ask for forgiveness.
"I'll be staying in this country for the meantime. I have to make sure that Ellasandra is safe. I will never trust you. Never," he asserts. I watch Chris as he walks away, hopping inside his car. I touch my face and groan in pain.
I have to make sure that my wife won't notice the bruise on the side of my lips. I have to drop by my office to treat my wound and conceal it. I was about to take a step on the stairs when I saw my wife walking down on them. I turn my head and hope that she didn't notice the bruise. She rushes down and grabs my face. Her face starts to show how mad she is.
"Chris!" she screams.
I stopped her from rushing outside. "He already left. Let's go upstairs," I calmly stated.
She grabs my palm and drags me with her. As soon as we got inside our room, she went to the bathroom to get the first-aid kit. She signed for me to sit on the sofa, which I did. She held my face and started treating my wound. I can't stop looking at her. Her expression changed. She looks worried and sorry.
"I'll call Chris and scold him to death. How could he hit you like this?!" she growls. I held her palm and stopped her from treating my wound. "It's okay. I know where he's coming from. He is just worried about you and Mikael."
Ella looks at me intently. She continues what she's doing. I start imagining what it could be if Chris managed to win her heart in the last three years, when she kept the truth from me. I'm sure Mikael might be calling him Daddy. I think my wife won't even come back and let us be a whole family again.
"He looks serious about you. I understand why he's determined this time. After all, he's technically your fiancé," I muttered.
"Neither of us had agreed with our mother's joke. It's been 15 years since that day. After our graduation from high school, the two of us went abroad to continue our studies at university. We lost contact since then." She blows once more and then stops applying medicine. "Don't tell me you're jealous of him?" she jokes. I held her hand and gazed at her intently.
"Has he been there for the past three years?" I ask.
I remain calm and show her that I'm just asking. "No, he wasn't. It's only my parents and paternal grandmother. They're the ones who took care of me until I decided to come back." I grab her waist and let her sit in my lap.
"Don't move." I nestled my face on her neck, and silence was heard in every corner of our room. "Forgive me," I whispered, breaking the silence. "For using me?" she asks. I hold her tighter.
"For every single thing I did. I know I'm a coward for asking for your love and second chances, but I do want you and Mikael in my life."
She places her thumb on my lips to stop me from talking. "If you keep on recalling what happened and blaming yourself too much, you can never be happy. You won't appreciate the fact that I'm still here, loving you. Can you do me a favor, hmm?"
I didn't answer and waited for what she would say next. "Stop blaming yourself, and let's move forward together with our son. In return, I'll show you that I never regretted coming back for you," Ellasandra says.
I can't believe that I am marrying a woman who has the purest heart. A man like me who foolishly hurts others just has what he desires. My grandpa was wrong. If I really want to be happy, I don't have to use my power, money, and status to have it.
"By the way, love, we have to prepare for next week." I frowned and sat properly. "What happened?" I inquired.
"Did Matthew do something with your business here?" She shakes her head and coughs. "It's more of your problem, not mine. That's why I want you to prepare and be ready," she says.
Well, I wouldn't be surprised. I'm the one who always causes problems. "I'm not worried. I'm always the problem anyway. So, what is it, Ellasandra?" I ask. She was about to answer when my phone rang. The two of us frowned when we saw Matthew's name.
"Why is he calling you at this hour, love?" Ella asks.
