CHAPTER 20
NOVEMBER
There are times I wonder what I did to get the type of people around me.
Don't get me wrong, I love them but sometimes, they just make me want to pull my hair.
Here I was in my room, talking to my loving mother about my job that I still have and just like Casper, she thinks I'm a witch.
"If I'm a witch, it means you're a witch too na" I told her, rolling my eyes "Abeg o, don't put me in your kingdom, but for real, I'm happy for you and I'm worried. You still have to attend lectures; it'd take your mind off school don't you think?
I mean, I understand that you're only to show up in the company when you're not having any classes but what about reading? You have one more course and I think you need all your concentration now. If you really did a good job these past month, then the company should have no problems in waiting for you to finish school right? Baby girl, just think about this. It's serious" my mom said.
I hate to admit it, but it's true.
Listening to her talk right now, made me realize things I failed to realize.
I guess I'd have to speak to the dragon.
"Yes mom, you're right! I'd talk to him tomorrow. Take care of yourself. I love you. Good night" I bade and hung up.
"Nov! Pizza is here" I heard sally call out "I'm coming" I yelled, taking my phone and running down to the living room.
"So, what did mom say?" Nifise asked me regarding the talk I had with my mom and I told them all she said, and they agreed with her.
"I'll just talk to him tomorrow" I told them, and Mandy switched on the TV so we could watch pretty little liars.
Thirty minutes into the episode, my phone rang.
The dragon was calling.
"Hello? Good evening sir" I answered standing up from where I sat on the floor, going to the kitchen.
"I'm at the airport and I can't seem to get a hold of any fucking person in my house" he said, he sounded frustrated.
He couldn't even say good evening. So much for being polite.
But wait, airport?
"What are you doing there? You said you'd be back tomorrow" I asked searching my neck "Well, I'm here now" he was clearly irritated.
"I'll be there" I told him, and I hung up.
He had a meeting in Abuja and he's not supposed to be back here till tomorrow. I wonder what happened.
I took the car key from the bowl on the center table. We always kept the keys on it I turned to look at the girls only for me to see that they were already looking at me and the movie was paused.
"I'm going to pick up my boss from the airport," I told them.
"Of course, I mean his driver suddenly became crippled" Nifise jokes.
"And he has no family or friends" Mandy added and they laughed.
"It's clearly an excuse to see the love of his life" Sally said and they laughed more.
"Y'all re bitches and I'm not answering you people, I'll be back soon" I told them, and I left the house.
45 minutes later, I was at the airport and it wasn't hard finding him.
"Good evening sir, welcome back" I greeted politely when I got to him.
He looked so fresh and fine as usual, but something was off.
He was angry.
"Sir, is something wrong?" I asked but got no response, so I decided to let it slide. If he wanted to tell me, he would.
"Just get me somewhere I can eat" he commanded when we got into the car.
"I don't know if you've checked the time, but no restaurant is open right now" I told him calmly.
"Then I guess I'd have to hope there's food at home" he said, more to himself than me but, I knew for a fact that there was no food for him "If only you told us you were coming today" I murmured but he heard me "You think I wanted to come back today?" He asked, his voice sharp and his anger evident in his voice.
I didn't answer him.
Soon, we got to his house. I wanted to go but, I just couldn't leave him here knowing very well that he's hungry and he sucks in the kitchen.
He can’t boil water to save his life.
"Good evening sir" Larry greeted him "Where was your phone Larry? I called you several times and you didn't pick up" he complained.
"I'm sorry sir, I had an emergency in the toilet" Larry said shyly and I smiled at him when he met my eyes.
"Whatever, be by your phone next time" he warned, and the man nodded his head in obedience.
"Go freshen up, I'll make you something to eat" I told him as I made my way to the kitchen, but I didn't hear any movement behind me.
I turned to check if he was still there or not, he was. He was looking at me strangely, like he had never seen me before.
I looked back at him with my left eyebrow raised, that seemed to get his attention.
"Right" he muttered and got moving.
Strange.
I made boiled spaghetti and sauce for him because that was the only thing I could find that is so easy to cook and it's his favorite food.
Just like killing two birds with one stone.
Thirty minutes later, I was done cooking and Kalmon wasn't down yet.
Just as I was about to go look for him, I heard his lazy steps coming down and to the dining area.
"Bon appetit" I said cheerily when he sat down to eat.
"I'll be leaving now. Good night, sir," I bade him.
"Kalmon" he said simply.
"Excuse me?" I was a little confused.
"Don't call me sir, it's Kalmon" he said, and I smiled.
"Good night Kalmon" I corrected myself.
"Are you sure you don't want to stay?" His husky voice asked.
"Uhm, no, there's work tomorrow" I reminded him.
"And who's the boss?" He asked, keeping a steady smirk on his face.
"You are," I said in defeat.
"There are things I need to talk to you about," I told him, remembering my conversation with my mom.
"Can I at least eat first?" He asked and I nodded.
He took his first bite and paused, he looked up at me but said nothing and he continued eating.
During this time, I found myself a place to sit waiting patiently for him to finish.
When he was done, I was ready to bring up the topic again but as if sensing it, he looked at me like he was daring me to speak so I swallowed my words.
"What is it?" He asked me after some minutes of silence.
"Uhm, it's about me working wi—"
"Let's talk about it tomorrow," he said, cutting me short.
I can't believe I sat here for nothing.
"Okay then, good night" I said again, standing up from where I sat.
"You think I'm gonna let you leave this house at this time?" He asked, looking at me like I'd grown two heads.
"Bu—"
"But nothing, take one of the bedrooms, or you can come join me in mine" he said with a smirk.
"No, I'm good," I told him, not missing the way he stood up and walked over to me.
"Your loss, I'm a human pillow" he joked, and I laughed.
"Still no?" He asked and I nodded "Okay good night" he said, and he took me by surprise by kissing me.
His lips were soft, just like how I remember them, moving over mine with confidence and dominance.
Before I could get into the kiss, he broke it.
What the hell?
And just like that, he left.
