Chapter 193: Was It You Who Saved Him?

Savannah felt despair rising in her chest.

What kind of life was it, being locked up like a dog? She refused to live like that.

She screamed at Alexander, "Alexander, you're so heartless! Have you forgotten I saved you when we were kids? You're so ungrateful!"

"Was it really you who saved him back then?" A woman's cold voice came from the doorway.

Savannah looked up and saw Madison. She wore a white dress, staring at her with a cool, distant look that was hard to look away from.

"Why are you here?" When Alexander saw Madison, his expression froze for a second. He walked toward her without thinking, his face full of worry.

Savannah saw it and felt a surge of anger. Only Madison could make Alexander look like that. How annoying. Why couldn't it be her?

Madison's pretty eyes turned to the man walking toward her, her tone a bit unhappy. "You were going to deal with her behind my back? Afraid I'd do something to her?"

Alexander shook his head right away. "No. I just didn't want her here, dirtying your eyes."

Madison gave a small, noncommittal smile, looked away from him, and walked over to Savannah. She crouched down in front of her.

Savannah saw how put-together Madison looked while she was a total mess, and resentment bubbled up. She gritted her teeth and snapped, "You're happy, aren't you? You must be thrilled seeing me like this!"

"What right do you have to be angry?" Madison said coldly. She reached out and grabbed Savannah's chin, her eyes completely blank. "All these years, you've been taking credit for saving him. Did you really start believing it was you?"

Savannah froze. She glanced at Alexander behind Madison, then back at her. Her eyes widened suddenly, and she burst out laughing. "So that's it. It was you!"

Alexander, standing behind Madison, was also stunned.

He stared at her in disbelief. "What did you just say?"

Madison turned to him, her face calm. "What do you think? I didn't know the great CEO was this slow."

She stood up straight and looked at Savannah. The shock on Savannah's face had turned into wild laughter. Clearly, she hadn't known she'd been stealing someone else's credit all this time.

Madison turned back to Alexander, her voice steady. "If I told you I was the one who saved you when you fell in the water back then, would you believe me?"

The moment she asked, Alexander nodded without hesitation. "I believe you."

Madison never joked about things like this. "When did you find out?"

Madison pressed her lips together. "I didn't know either until I saw you staring at that gem, saying you wanted to return it to its owner."

She couldn't believe how small the world was—that she was Alexander's real savior. If Savannah hadn't stolen her credit all these years, things between her and Alexander wouldn't have been so messed up. All those mix-ups had led to where they were now.

Madison pulled a bracelet from her bag. She didn't need to explain. The moment Alexander saw the missing piece on it, everything clicked into place.

He couldn't put his feelings into words. Only one thought filled his mind: Savannah had done a lot of damage.

Anger burned in his chest. He glared at Savannah. "You really fooled me badly, didn't you?"

Savannah wasn't scared at all. She just found it funny. "After all this, you two really are meant to be."

Even fate was messing with her. Her whole life was just one big joke.

Madison cut her off coldly. "Shut up. Don't act so innocent. You stole someone else's credit and now you're playing the victim? Don't you think that's shameless?"

Savannah tilted her head, looking confused, almost innocent. "What's shameless about it? If you want something, you have to take it yourself. What's wrong with that?"

Madison felt a wave of disgust. This woman was rotten to the core.

Alexander saw Madison clenching her teeth in anger. He pulled her behind him and shot Savannah a freezing look.

Savannah realized she'd gone too far. Her life was still in Alexander's hands. Without the "savior" card, he wouldn't go easy on her.

She started begging, too late. "Alexander, please, for the sake of all these years—"

"What years? What feelings?" Alexander sneered. She'd been lying to him the whole time, and she still dared to bring that up.

He announced coldly, "You and George have done enough to spend the rest of your lives in prison. Enjoy it."

He waved at his assistant. Someone immediately came over, gagged the struggling Savannah, and dragged her away.

Everything happened so fast that by the time Madison reacted, Savannah was already gone.

She opened her mouth to say something, but Alexander suddenly pulled her into his arms. His lips pressed against hers.

Madison's breath caught. She tried to lean back, but his hands tightened around her waist, and he kissed her hard.

The kiss was messy—full of relief and something like joy at getting her back.

When it ended, Madison was panting, glaring at him.

He still looked like he wanted more, his voice rough. "Don't look at me like that. I couldn't help myself."

Madison frowned. This guy could make being a creep sound poetic, but the excuse was pretty weak.

Alexander laughed at her angry-but-helpless face, his eyes soft. "You came here just to expose Savannah?"

Madison gave him a sarcastic look. "Yeah, since someone was about to ship her out of the country. If I didn't speak up, she'd have gotten away with everything."

Alexander pinched her cheek. "Are you jealous?"

Madison snorted. "Jealous of what? You?"

Alexander chuckled. "Aren't you?"

The fact that she rushed over meant she still cared.

They'd had too many misunderstandings over the years, too many to count.

Thinking about it, Alexander's eyes darkened. His face turned serious.

"Madison, we've known each other since we were kids. Our connection is fate. You can't let go of me, and I can't let go of you. Why not give us another chance? I promise..." He stepped back and raised his hand like he was swearing an oath.

"The only woman I've ever loved is Madison. If I ever betray her, may lightning strike me down."
