Chapter 23: A Lie 3
Naida's pov
Jayden kept smiling at me while we were with Sera in the sitting room. It was quite weird because she was staring at us. I just had to smile back so that he didn't notice something was wrong. “Tell him how much you enjoyed my tea today,” she said as she smiled at both of us.
He looked back at me for a response. I smiled at Sera. “It was lovely, so much better than the first,” I said shyly. “Oh wow, I won't believe that till I've had a taste of it,” he replied quirkily. Sera chuckled. “My love,” Jayden gently called out to me, attracting Sera's attention. “How are you?” The fact that he asked me that question in front of Sera almost pissed me off. I mean if he really wanted to know how I felt, he should have checked up on me.
“Yeahh,” I answered calmly. There was silence in the room for a few minutes, I could tell that just like me, the others had a lot going on in their minds. “To defeat Luciver, you must get the p-squared knife,”
My eyes widened in shock and I felt the pain of betrayal right in my chest. “Hehe, maybe I didn't hear right?” I said inwardly in confusion.
It was all too heavy for me to carry. “I trusted her? How could she possibly think of helping Jayden kill Luciver?” I wondered how and why she switched sides. “Or maybe I was the fool from the beginning…the herbs, her kind gestures..where they all fake?” I asked myself in pain. I had never felt so much pain from rebellion or betrayal. Maybe because I trusted her so much and saw her as my one and only true friend who understood me.
I looked up and both our eyes met and she didn't flinch. Her eyes were as bold as they always were. I know very well that she saw the pain and confusion in my eyes. “There must be a reasonable explanation for this,” I tried to convince myself. Jayden was all relaxed and relieved that he had gotten a solution to his quest.
The shock made me numb. I froze in my seat with my gaze fixed on the bare floor. “The p-squared knife?” Jayden asked. “What the heck was that?” I asked myself with my eyes still on the floor. “Yes, that's the only way you can defeat Luciver,” Seraphina responded. “So the way forward is to find the knife! I'll have to do a little summoning,” she added.
At this moment, I gave her a sharp stare which she noticed. Jayden looked at me happily. “My love, we're almost there!” he exclaimed joyfully. Wow…I never knew things would have gone that bad very sooner. I wanted to leave immediately, still trying to process the betrayal and its possible reasons, there was already progress on how to get the knife.
“Ummm…I think…we need to go now,” I said to Jayden hoping he'd listen. There were oppositions from both of them but I wouldn't listen this time. “Aiit then, stay safe,” Sera finally consented. I politely ignored her because she had hurt me so badly and she was fully aware. Jayden really didn't notice the word energy between I and Sera so it was all good.
“Let's go honey, I don't want you to be spotted by that beast. No doubt, he might have sent people to start looking for you,” he said as he helped me up. I equally ignored him. Olivia helped me. She promised to cover in for me but I knew that was every reason to be worried. I simply chose not to. The real enemy was with me.
We bade our farewell to Seraphina. I did it faintly and with so much pain but tried not to overreact so that Jayden wouldn't notice. “How sure are you that Jayden isn't aware of your last discussions with Sera?” my wolf self asked. “Maybe, maybe not,” I simply replied. We left for the pack house a few minutes later. He had promised to take me back to the pack.
We both walked back in silence. I tried so hard not to show that something was wrong. I didn't want any questions or lectures on how bad Luciver was and how much of a terrible person he was. I could tell that Jayden wasn't comfortable with the fact that we were silent. So he tried to crack a joke.
“The tea Sera made almost made me puke, how on earth were you able to cope with that?” he chipped in. “Sera? That is the wrongest attempt he should ever make in this period,” I said inwardly. The fact that he mentioned Sera got me upset as I had remembered how much of a traitor that she was. But I didn't want to let him know I was upset so I had to go with the slide.
But the second was very different..better kinda different,” I managed to reply while trying to hide my anger. It worked cause he laughed. “I wish I tasted it too,” he said, smiling at me. “But I'm glad you liked it,” he added as he put his hands on my shoulder. There, I felt like I shouldn't transfer the pain and anger I felt to Jayden because he was innocent. All he had Ben trying to do was make me happy, the least I could do was to be nice.
Jayden's smile slowly turned into a frown when he looked in a particular direction and I was curious to know why so I looked at where his eyes were fixed on. It was Mary. His mate. She was approaching us. The beautiful young red haired lady who was kinda sassy but I couldn't tell if she was nice or not. Each time I met with her she would always ignore me and I get why. I'm with her man!
“Hello fellas,” she said as she reached Jayden who didn't give a stare for even a second. “What are you doing here, you deliberately followed us right?” He interrupted her whole romantic advances towards him. “C'mon honey, what has this crazy lady fed you with?” she snapped. I was less provoked because i was already used to that, no woman would want her mate to be with any other person.
“How dare you, Mary?” He shouted as he aggressively pulled her hands off him. I tried to calm him down but he didn't listen. He shunned her and asked her to never to come to him again. Well, she did not leave, so he held me on my wrist and took me out of the scene, leaving her there.
“That was so rude,” I said to him as he pulled me roughly. “She called you crazy,” He replied sharply. “That's what happens when anybody messes with you around me,” he added. This however got me scared as I remembered what he promised to do to Luciver.
