Chapter 78 End of games.
Isla’s POV.
My heart kept racing as we rushed Josie to the emergency room on the hospital stretcher.
“Stay with me, Jo, stay with me!” My voice cracked as I kept screaming.
The doctors stopped us at the emergency door as they rushed her inside.
“You can’t go in, Ma’am, wait here.” A nurse said, blocking the door.
Iris was already given a bed, Dante was taking care of him.
My body didn’t stop vibrating. My hands were numb.
I didn’t care about what I looked like, all I wanted was for Josie to be fine.
I stood frozen like someone who had seen a ghost.
Tears blurred my vision, I could barely see clearly, my mouth couldn’t move.
Dante tapped me from behind, I almost punched his face.
“Whoa, sweetie. Any news from the nurses?” He asked, patting my shoulders.
My lips didn’t move, but with the look in my eyes, he already knew the answer.
My feet starggered backward, his hands moved faster and caught me.
“Come take a seat,” he gently placed me into a seat.
“How’s Iris doing?” My voice was barely heard.
He gave a nod, and then lifted my head to his shoulder.
“He’s doing just fine. He only suffered a little physical injury, nothing serious. The doctor says he needs to rest.”
My heart slowly eased. Thank goodness.
Slowly, I slipped my hand into Dante’s curling them together.
“Do you think I really failed?” I murmured.
He stayed silent for a moment, and then, “You didn’t fail, honey.”
“But I feel like I’m a bad sister. I can’t even protect myself, or anything.”
Dante’s hand slid to my back, patting me gently.
His eyes never left mine. Those eyes that gave me hope.
Those eyes that promised danger and warmth at the same time.
He always knew where to touch me, he always knew how to connect me back to myself.
“You’re the strongest woman I’ve ever seen, Isla. You’re a formidable woman. Despite the challenges you’ve been through, I haven’t seen you break.” He started.
“Stop teasing me, Dante. You and I know that I’m just trying to be strong…”
“Who says you aren’t? When I say you are, nobody dares to say you aren’t.”
His words hit me hard, I gripped his hand tighter.
My eyes never left the emergency door, my head was filled with unbelievable thoughts.
“What if you lose her?” A voice whispered in my head.
“You’re just a weakling, trying to be strong. How stupid you are. You’re just worse at what you do.” Another whispered.
“You’re not a weakling,” Dante’s words snapped me back to reality.
How did he know what was going on in my head? Was I whispering that loud?
The door finally opened and I jumped from my seat, Dante followed.
Even if I wasn’t ready for whatever the doctor had to say, I wanted to hear them anyway.
“No need for panic, the patient is safe. She was emotionally agitated. Some rest should do the job.”
A deep sigh left my lungs. “Thank you doctor. Thank goodness.”
We followed the roller as they pushed her toward the ward Iris was admitted to.
She was given a drip.
The sound of heart monitors filled the room as I watched their chest rise and fall.
“They’ll be fine,” Dante said, lips brushing my forehead.
My hands moved faster than I had imagined, pulling him into my arms for a hug.
“I don’t know what I would’ve done without you, Dante.” I said, tears rolling down my cheeks.
He pressed me closer. “It’s okay, sweetheart. You’re safe now.”
“You’re safe now.” The words kept replaying in my head.
“I had always been safe ever since I got to know you.” I whispered.
Iris woke up after five hours of sleeping.
“Sister…” he whispered, voice cracking.
My feet rushed toward him without hesitation.
“Hey, honey,” my hand patted his hair softly.
He looked so pale, his body was bandaged all over.
“You’re safe now,” I muttered.
“Josie, she…” he tried to lift his head.
“She’s okay, just resting. You must hate me so much for not coming soon,” my hands held his.
He slowly moved his head for an answer.
There was a sound behind me, I turned.
Josie! I rushed over to her.
“Sis,” she coughed.
My hands reached for a glass of water. “Have some water.”
I had urged Dante to go take care of the company, and promised to call him when I needed him.
“You guys scared me to death. What happened? Why was he furious?”
Joise opened her mouth to say something.
“He found the spy cameras we hid inside the house.”
My eyes sharpened. “How did he get his hands on them?”
“I think someone did…”
Who could that be? Lucia? No, Lucia was already rotting in jail, unless…
I try to shake the thoughts off my head.
Charles dared to lay his hands on my siblings. I’ll make sure he rots in hell.
I picked up my phone to call Dante.
“Hey,” my voice came out sharp.
“Honey, how’s everything over there? Do you need my help?”
“Yes I do need your help, but for something bigger.”
“Hmmm, who are you drilling this time?” He smirked.
“I want all the shares of the Benettie’s family bought in my name.”
“Now that’s what I’m talking about. Consider it done.”
The line went dead.
I turned to my siblings. “Get ready, we’re holding a shareholders meeting. It’s time we take what belongs to us.”
I’ll make sure I strip him off every pride and dignity he has left.
