Chapter 23: Twenty thre

A million words came to Kyra’s mouth, but they did not make it past her lips. She shook her head and relaxed back on her seat as the carriage began to move, but her eyes could not leave Anton’s face.

His action about placing her leg on his lap had been so natural like he had done it a million times to someone else that was not her before. Was it his first mate?

Well, even though she has been cooped up inside her room since after that day she came out to have lunch with him, a few maids had come into her room to clean it up because that was not part of Cynthia’s work.

They had tried to be quiet as they worked and cursed her, but she still heard them anyway. It was one of the little special gifts she had as a werewolf or was it a curse because she mostly kept hearing things she would rather not hear?

They spoke about his first mate, they did not give out too much information, but they gave enough to make her understand that his first mate hurt him a couple of times before she betrayed him by running off with another man. She’s not been found!

Anton hated her so much he banned everyone in the palace from mentioning her name out loud.

Cynthia had gone pale and even shook in fear when she had called her to get little information on Anton’s first mate. Cynthia refused to say anything to her because according to her, she was not supposed to do so. It was an order from Anton not to speak about his first mate.

She tried to give the girl, but Cynthia did it break under the pressure, but she told Kyra that everything the maids said about the lady hurting Anton and running off with another man were both true.

Kyra felt sad for Anton. He was a powerful and handsome alpha and with his action with her, Kyra just knew that he must have been the most caring mate ever.

She wondered what his first mate’s problem was and if she had a good reason for leaving him and taking off with another man. Was the other man better than Anton? Did Anton do something to his mate and everyone failed to realize it because they were blinded by the fact that he was their alpha and could do no wrong?

The tire of the carriage must have hit a small stone in the ground as they rode away, but it was enough to shake them and bring Kyra out of her thoughts.

She readjusted on her seat and Anton’s face that has been blurry from her staring at him for long became clear.

The first thing she really noticed was that the feeling in the carriage that was once serene had changed to be replaced with a suffocating air.

Kyra immediately fell under the pressure as sweat began to gather behind her neck to drip down her back and her palms felt cold and clammy.

She stared directly at Anton because he was the only one around who could be releasing this strong and oppressive energy. She could not understand the easons, and she saw that his brows were drawn together, and his forehead was squeezed in a deep frown as he stared out of the carriage’s window. She could only see his side profile.

“Are you okay?” She could not stop herself from asking. She needed him to take this energy back because if he kept at it, she might die. Breathing was already becoming so hard for her that she was almost wheezing for breath.

Anton remained quiet and continued to look out as the carriage rode away.

“Alpha Anton!” Kyra forced herself to yell his name. Her voice sounded desperate to her ears, but she did not care. She needed him to take back his oppressive alpha energy he was releasing before she dropped to the floor of the carriage, dead.

When an alpha was releasing this sort of energy, anyone who was not an alpha or strong enough that was within the vicinity were usually affected and would slowly begin to lose their breath and then their life if they did not vacate the place quickly.

Her hand moved subconsciously down to hug her stomach. She could not possibly throw herself out of the carriage that was riding at a high speed now. Well, she would have done so without much thought about injury if she was not pregnant.

The horses and the driver must also be feeling the oppressive energy because the carriage was moving faster like the horses were running on high energy, and she could hear the drivers yelling at the top of their voices and just knew that they were trying to control the horse and carriage from crashing.

Since they could not help, she needed to do something about it and save them all. “Alpha Anton!”

When he did not answer her but remained quiet as he continued to stare out, Kyra forced her body to move, and she threw herself on him, “Alpha Anton, snap out of it.”

Thankfully her voice, coupled with the force of her body knocking against him was enough to snap his attention to her.

A loud gasp that betrayed Kyra’s fear was wrenched out of her throat when he looked down at her and his eyes were the golden colors of his wolf. He was looking at her like she was his enemy.

Kyra wanted to immediately scramble away as fear raced down her spine, but his hands clamped down hard on her shoulders and pressed her down on his body.

“Why didn't you hit her back when I asked you to?” His voice sounded deeper than it usually did and Kyra knew for certain that Anton’s wolf was the one in charge.

She could not even deal with the man, so how was she supposed to deal with his wolf who looked about ready to snap her head off or even eat her flesh for dinner and drink her blood as red wine?

She did not have to ask him to know who he was referring to. He was asking her why she did not hit Roselyn back even when he told her to. Was that the reason for his sudden anger that was causing him to react this way and release his alpha killing energy?

Why was he even asking her this question?

She knew that alphas hated being disobeyed and that their words were law especially to their pack members, but he did not have to behave in this manner because he might end up getting them killed.

Well, he might not die, but she surely would if he kept up with this for much longer.

“Alpha Anton, can you please snap out first? Take back this energy and we will talk about it.” Her eyes widened in panic when the carriage swerved dangerously to one side and nearly crashed against a tall and sturdy tree in the path. Anton was not even concerned, he was unaware of the damage that he was causing.

Oh god, he was going to get them killed. She could hear the desperate cries of the drivers and the horses. She who was closer was suffering the most but seems like she was the cause of all this. She needed to make everything right.

Kyra hoped that she would be able to get through to him or everything would be over. She might be hurt and might even be considered a slave now but Kyra was not ready to die at this moment. She was going to have her baby and find her life’s purpose, no way was she dying now.

“Alpha Anton, please you have to stop!”

“Why did you not slap her when I asked you to?” Anton yelled back in her face as his fingers dug into the soft flesh of her shoulders, drawing blood.
