230 The surgery
I just touched his vein with my fangs when I suddenly turned around, as I heard Flint barking at me. I sighed in relief.
"Flint, you must run for help. Run as fast as you can, and ask the Alphas to send us an ambulance car. We must secure him, as he has a few broken ribs."
Flint barked again, and he turned around. He quickly ran away. I kept checking his pulse and, even if it was weak, his heart was beathing.
"Please, stay with me." I asked him, but he just laid there motionless.
I was waiting for Flint to return, and he returned quicker than I thought. He sat next to me, and he started to lick Asher's wounds. He wanted to clean them for him, hoping they would heal quicker. I knew it wouldn't help, but I didn't stop him. I was worried that Aiden, inside his mind, would see his father in this state. I was worried, how he would feel later, as it was certainly too difficult for him mentally.
Soon, an ambulance car arrived, and two doctors got out of the car. Alpha William followed them.
Apparently, he was taken aback to see Asher in that state. Laying there with hundreds of wounds, half dead.
The doctors stepped closer, and I was working with them. They listened to me. They quickly secured Asher's body, and we moved it really gently.
In the car there was all the equipment to check him, and they finally decided they could take him back to a hospital.
The way was a little long, as they didn't want to go too fast, avoiding Asher to move a lot, but finally we arrived back. Alpha William was thoughtful, as he took Asher straight to the Green Community.
We quickly took him inside and ran with him to the operating room. I was ready to do everything to fix him, however, when I wanted to put him to sleep, I felt strong hand holding my hand.
"Olivia, leave it for me. You are not well enough to help him. Let me do this."
Walter told me with worry. I didn't want to let him to do the surgery, but he made me face him.
"Aiden is outside as well. He is shocked. I think you should be with him. I will take care of Asher. You don't need to worry."
I didn't know what to do, really. Walter was one of the creatures who I trusted, but our little argument was in my mind, and for a moment I was worried that he wouldn't work really hard to save him. But then I quickly pushed these thoughts away, and nodded after hesitating a little.
"Don't worry, Olivia. I will do everything to fix him."
He said, and I nodded again, I slowly walked out of the operating room. When I closed the door behind me, I lifted my head to feel the well-known heartache again. Aiden sat there wrapped in a white coat. He looked in front of him, and he was apparently far away. I walked closer, and I went on my knees in front of him. He noticed me, and his eyes were wet. I quickly embraced him and held him tightly. My poor boy started to cry immediately, and I just let him cry. The pictures of his dying father with wounds all over his body, thin like never, would probably stay with him for a lifetime. I only hoped that time would heal us.
The surgery took more than an hour. I didn't move, I just sat there next to Aiden, and I held him in my arms. Alpha William stayed with us there, and he was waiting for Walter to come out and tell us everything will be okay.
At the second hour, I started to worry again, but just before I was standing up, and wanting to enter the operation room, Walter appeared.
He walked to us, but Aiden was the first to stand up. He ran to Walter, and he stopped him.
"Walter! How is dad? Tell me!" He asked him, and he held the sleeve of Walter's white coat.
"We fixed him. He needs a lot of rest, a lot of good food and drink, and he will be strong again." He smiled at Aiden, and Aiden hugged him for a moment. I stood up, and walked to him as well. I hugged him back, and we remained hugging each other for a few seconds.
"Thank you." I said, but he only hugged me a little tighter as an answer.
Finally, I moved out of his embrace.
"Can we go in to see him?" Aiden asked him impatiently, but Walter shook his head.
I think the best would be to leave him to rest now. He is sleeping and we keep him asleep until the next morning. We are taking care of him here. You don't need to worry. "
Walter told Aiden, and even if he looked disappointed, he nodded at him.
"I think I could use some sleep." He smiled at me, and I smiled back at him. "Mum, would you come with me?" I looked at him suddenly, and first I wanted to refuse him, as I hoped I could go in to see Asher, but I finally nodded. I thought it was probably hard for him, so I wanted to stay next to him at least until he fell asleep. I looked at Alpha William, and he nodded as well. That nod told me not to worry. I was sure he wanted to stay there until I was back.
I led Aiden to a room, and he laid down on the bed. I laid next to him, and I hugged him tightly. Probably, he was exhausted, as he fell asleep quickly. When I knew he was sleeping soundly, I got up, and I quietly walked out of the room. I walked back. I found Alpha William on a chair, and he had a nap probably, as his eyes were closed. His appearance made me smile. However, I had something more important to do. I headed to the room where Asher was kept, and after getting the necessary clothing, I entered the room. I found Irene there. However, she looked scared to see me.
