Chapter 34: Nightmare After The Heaven

“What happened?” Dylan felt the pain before he could even recognize his surroundings.

It was not him who was feeling this unbearable pain. It was his mate!

“Diana?” Dylan, though butt naked, stood from the bed. Sniffing the air, his chest reverberated from the growl that escaped his lips. “Diana?”

His wolf was on edge. It was asking to be let out.

To protect his mate. To destroy what was hurting her. These thoughts occupied Dylan’s mind as his eyes shone with predatory ferocity.

He swore that if he did not find his mate right after feeling her pain, he would flip the entire pack house if needed.

Bang!

The door of the comfort room opened.

In a flash, Dylan engulfed Diana’s petite and trembling body in his arms. For a moment, his tensed muscles relaxed as his canines retracted. Dylan was able to stop himself from going wild with his wolf – he was so close to giving in to his primal instinct.

Speaking between hiccups and sobs, Diana delivered the gist of the story.

“M-My family… the link… the-they’re gone all of a-a sudden… Oh goddess, no! Please… Please… Save them… Dylan, please…”

Dylan cupped her cheeks, making sure that her unfocused eyes were pinned on his. “Look at me, hey. Baby, look at me. It will be alright… I promise. So calm down and let us think of a game plan to rescue your parents.”

Diana, whose eyes were puffy and lips were pale, nodded. She was about to share that she was awoken by the stabbing pain from the link between her and her parents when her wolf howled all of a sudden.

This time, Diana’s eyes lost all the humanity in them before she raced to the nearest window and shifted.

“Diana!”

Dylan’s words fell on deaf ears. Dylan watched as his mate shifted into her beautiful wolf form. Without thinking much but following his instinct, he shifted into his wolf as well. Jumping from the very window of the second floor, Dylan chased Diana through her scent.

‘Diana! Baby, calm down!’ Dylan tried calling her out through their shared mind link.

What answered Dylan was silence. It did not need him to think why. His mate blocked the connection subconsciously.

Though he did not get the entire story, Dylan could guess that Diana felt the pain that was shared with him through the link of their wolves. This pain did not originate from Diana… it was from other wolves that had a close connection to her and her wolf – their family.

Dashing through the Oak trees and sequoia trees looming over the crossroads of the Blood Claws Pack to the south, the forest floor thud upon contact with the pristine white-furred paws. Racing to the south like the wind of the winter solstice, the soft white fur which reminded the onlookers of the first drop of snow swayed against every pound of claws against the mossy ground.

For Diana and her family, there were only two words that kept on ringing inside their collective heads: family, save.

She did not feel her paws touching the ground. She did not clearly see what was before her as she raced against time.

What she did know was the trail of familiarity that would bring her to her parents.

A few miles away and Diana, who was in her wolf form, would enter the southern territories. Thinking about how she left the pack house at the first chance she could get, Diana could not help but let out a deep guttural growl—shaking the very air she ran past through.

It was at this moment that a single zap of lightning bolt followed by a thunderclap resonated through the darkening sky the moment Diana’s chest pounded with deep anxiety and groundless fear. The change in her mood depicted to the darkening of the sky which was once a cloudless morning horizon a few moments ago. The howling of the wind, shaking the branches of the forest as the forest floor trembled, showed how Diana’s anxiety spiked.

‘I have to go back! I need to stop that event from happening again. I will kill all those who will stop me!’ Diana thought in resolution before she turned around and doubled her speed. The old shortcut which she discovered upon her when she was fairly new to the Blood Claws Pack came in handy for her at this very moment.

As she was the daughter of the beta her entire life, Diana’s scent – though it changed in the majority – still had a sense of familiarity for the patrolling guards that were about to attack the white wolf. But even though there were no hints of familiarity, the fact that a black shadow trailed behind the pristine white wolf was enough to make them think twice about moving against her lest they forfeit their lives.

The moment Diana entered the Crescent Pack’s beta family’s territory through the hidden cover, the smell of blood and the aching throb in her chest welcomed her—it was as if a connection of familial ties was being severed and for her who was in transition to being a luna to actually feel it must have meant the absolute worst-case scenario for Diana.

Growling like a rogue gone mad, Diana, who was still in a wolf form raced to the cabin where her parents were staying—only to be welcomed by an eerie silence as she dashed through a door without a single soul in sight.

“Mother! Father!” Diana transformed into her human form again. The darkening of the sky followed by the cackling of the storm followed.

“Mother, please! Father!” She stood at the center of the empty living room where her parents would usually linger. With trembling hands and canines protruding, the storm was engulfing the entire Crescent Pack

The worst was yet to come when Diana entered the bloody chambers of her parents.

 “No–o!”
