Chapter 75: What Should I Do with You
James sneered and went to open the car door again.
Out of nowhere, Eric grabbed him around the waist and yanked him back with all his strength. James didn't budge an inch. He sighed to himself, grabbed Eric's hand, and squeezed just enough to make Eric let go in pain.
James realized that if Eric didn't give up, he wouldn't be able to take Emily away.
Looking down at Eric, he asked, "You giving up?"
"No!" Eric shouted, throwing a punch at James.
In the next second, Eric was on the ground again.
James asked, "Giving up now?"
Eric yelled, "No!"
They fought for what felt like forever. When Eric was lying on the ground, too hurt to get up, his eyes stayed locked on James, never looking away.
James opened the car door, picked Emily up, and put her in his car. Before leaving, he coldly said to Eric, "Hit the gym more."
Because of that comment, Eric went home and bought a ton of fitness equipment in a rage. He was determined that next time he saw James, he'd be the one to knock him down.
James took Emily back to his place. When Sophia saw him bringing her in, she exclaimed, "Why'd you bring her back? You two are divorced!"
"Mom, quiet," James warned, giving Sophia a look.
Sophia, thinking of how cold James had been to her lately, almost fainted from anger but could only watch as James carried Emily to the room.
Seeing Emily lying quietly on the bed, James felt a rare sense of satisfaction, and even the cold room seemed to warm up.
He looked at Emily's sleeping face, realizing he'd never really looked at her like this before. She was quite charming and pretty.
He stared at her for a long time, tracing her features with his fingertips, as if trying to memorize her.
He wasn't sure if it was his illusion, but Emily's face, though tired, seemed rosier and fuller than when she left the Smith Family.
This quiet demeanor was more like the old Emily, not the post-divorce Emily who constantly mocked and ignored him.
"What am I gonna do with you?" James murmured softly, unable to come up with an answer.
He gently held Emily's hand, afraid of waking her.
"What have you been doing to be this tired?" James muttered to himself.
As he got closer to Emily, he smelled a faint scent of blood, formaldehyde, and disinfectant in her hair.
James's sharp gaze fell on Emily.
He carefully checked her body for injuries but found none.
Where had she been to have such a smell?
Unable to figure it out, James eventually fell asleep beside Emily.
Emily had a good sleep and woke up to find she wasn't in her own room, though the surroundings seemed familiar.
She was stunned for a while before realizing this looked like the bedroom she used to share with James.
For a moment, Emily was totally confused. She clearly remembered that she had been with Eric.
Unable to make sense of it, she decided not to overthink. She took a deep breath to stay calm.
As she was about to get up, she noticed someone lying next to her. Turning her head, she saw it was James and felt a weird sense of relief.
But then, she realized something was off and her body stiffened. Why did she feel relieved seeing James?
She thought, 'Have I not let go of my feelings for James? No way, that's impossible!'
After convincing herself, Emily tried to get up again, only to find her hair trapped under James.
Emily cursed inwardly, 'Damn it!'
Carefully, she pulled her hair out from under James. When she tried to leave again, James's arm suddenly wrapped around her waist.
Emily was startled. She gently moved James's hand off her waist and quietly left the bedroom.
What she didn't notice was that as soon as she left, James opened his eyes. He clenched his hand, still warm from Emily's touch, and pursed his lips. Last night, he couldn't resist the temptation and ended up holding Emily in bed all night.
Emily reached the stairs and saw that the villa, which she had cleaned before selling, had been restored to its previous state, as if she had never left.
But she knew they couldn't go back to the past.
Her heart ached. Snapping back to reality, she quickly descended the stairs and saw Sophia carrying some supplements to the living room.
Sophia saw her too.
Both Sophia and Emily stood still, glaring at each other.
"You acted all high and mighty before, but now you're back to cling to James," Sophia said disdainfully. Seeing that her words didn't affect Emily, she added, "Even if you beg me on your knees, I won't agree to you marrying James again."
Emily rolled her eyes. "Do you even know what nonsense you're talking about?"
"You!" Sophia was infuriated.
"Besides, please keep James from bothering me again. It's annoying," Emily added flatly, trying to walk past Sophia.
Hearing James being belittled, Sophia was furious. She grabbed Emily's hand and pulled her back. "Do you think you can be with James? Dream on! He'll marry Olivia."
"Then go find Olivia and bring her back to the Smith Family, so I can have some peace," Emily mocked, prying Sophia's fingers off one by one, and left without looking back.
As soon as Emily stepped out of the Smith Manor, she unexpectedly saw Robert.
She wasn't surprised that Robert could track her down, but coming out of the Smith Manor made her feel a bit embarrassed to face him.
"Robert," Emily called out sweetly as she approached him.
"You're out?" Robert didn't ask much. "I was about to go in and make James hand you over if you didn't come out."
