Chapter 128: CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY EIGHT
VIVIAN’S POV
I was bored. I had enough already. I was panicking by the time the phone rang. I had been waiting all morning for Amelia’s call, but she never called. I guessed that she was busy. I was wringing my fingers, hoping that nothing had happened to her in the mean time. I hoped to the goddess that Alpha Logan was going to be nice to her. My main issues were hoping that Alpha Logan, or Mark didn’t do anything to her. Or even worse, Derek.
It was the first time that I was thinking about him in weeks while I was alone. Well, not the first time. But one of the few times. I didn’t want to think or talk about him. But recently, it was almost like he was living rent free in my head. I could literally hear him call out to me. At first, I thought it was Miles. Because he looked so much like Derek it made my heart ache. But it only made me love him more. And sometimes, he even spoke like Derek. Even in his little voice. The first time that it happened, it sent shivers through my spine. To me, it was nothing normal. But I was getting used to it. and now, it seemed normal.
But then, there was a day when I heard my name in Derek’s voice, and Miles was asleep. It couldn’t be the wind carrying his voice all the way from the pack, could it?
“Are you okay, ma’am?” one of the people that I was on a meeting with, asked.
“Yes, I am.”
“Are you sure?” Another board member asked, and I nodded.
“Does it seem like something is wrong?” I asked.
“Well, we have been screaming your name for minutes and you didn’t hear us. Plus, you seemed lost and worried.”
I sighed. It was useless hosting a meeting where I wasn’t going to be able to even concentrate. “Can we postpone this meeting? I don’t think I’m in my right frame of mind.”
They all nodded in an understanding manner and one by one, they walked out of the room. I exhaled as I stood up, holding on to the chair for balance.
I held on to my phone one more time. I didn’t want to call either and put her in trouble. As far as the both of us were concerned, she could tell any kind of lie as long as it proved that she was safe. And we were both sticking to that principle. There was nothing that was going to change that. Ever.
I was just about to drop it and probably watch something on television when the phone rang. It was her. I answered immediately.
“Amelia?” I asked in a whisper. I didn’t know why I was whispering, but it sounded convenient at that time.
“Vivian?” she asked, and I hummed in response. “You have to come to the pack immediately.” She said. It was almost like she was panicking.
“What happened?” I asked. “Why should I hurry there? Are Alpha Logan or Mark doing something to you?” I felt my heart racing. I knew what it felt like to be tortured by them. Trust me, Amelia only had the slightest idea. She was only still the best pet that Alpha Logan had. So whatever she called maltreatment was only ten percent of what we were going through.
“Not Alpha Logan. Derek,” she said, and I could barely breathe.
“Tell me, what is he doing to you? Hasn’t the bastard changed?”
She paused for a while, and I could tell that someone was walking past her. “He’s practically on his death bed. He can't move or eat. He’s literally paralyzed.”
My chest was hurting at the sound of that. But I didn’t want to react. In fact, I wasn’t supposed to react.
“And Anna?” I asked. If she was dying and in such a hurry to be his Luna back then, then she should be able to take care of her mate, right? They might have treated me wrongly in the past. But funny enough, the only things I wished them was luck and happiness. Nothing else.
But this was bound to happen right? I was wrongly accused, and he didn’t have any kind of trust in me. He quickly rejected me, and punished me without second thought and took in my best friend as his Luna. And I didn’t even know that she wanted him all along. She accepted him with so much ease. I could never forget how hurt I felt that day. The pain that I felt while birthing Miles was nothing compared to it.
“I caught her trying to kill him,” she said, and I gasped again. What the actual fuck? How was that happening? “Listen, Vivian, I can't tell you everything on the phone. But please, you need to hurry here. Things are practically getting out of hand. We need to handle it all. Plus, Alpha Logan is being extremely nice to me. I know there’s something he had in his sleeve. A trick that I might not be able to escape from. So please. I can't handle everything alone. And only you can heal Derek.”
I opened my mouth to tell her that there was nothing like that, but she already hung up. I checked my calendar again. There was this thing that Alpha Logan has asked his men to do. There were certain times when they practically circulated my office, trying to see if there was going to be any chance where they could somehow nab me. They hadn’t gotten that chance just yet, because I wasn’t willing to give it. but it was time now. Because that was the only way I was going to be able to get to the pack. I had to allow the abductors take the credit even when they weren’t smart enough.
I picked my phone, scrolling through my contacts. I called the nanny, asking her to bring Miles in through the back door after packing a few clothes for me and him. She was in my office within an hour with my baby boy and our luggage. I took a deep breath before heading outside. It was time to act.
