Chapter 38: Miserable

Mel's PoV

Today is Friday and I'm on my way home from school, I used to take a jeepney to the hospital. When I arrived I turned it on and went down, a few minutes of walking I reached my brother's room. When I entered, I was even more surprised by what I saw, the doctor was talking to someone but I couldn't verify who is it. So I approached it and I felt so much joy when I saw him sitting looking at me with a smile on his face.

"Nii-san? Niiiii-chan!" I cried and cried because of the joy I felt.

"You slept too long nii-san!" I said more and continued to cry.

"Are you okay? Aren't you in pain?" I asked worriedly.

"'Don't worry Mel.. I'm fine," he replied a little hoarsely.

"His normal voice will return in about two days. You don't have to worry anymore miss, because like I said, we should only worry about his waking up," the doctor explained and I was even happier here.

"You can leave here tomorrow too," said the Doctor and turned around.

"Thank you very much Doc," I said as he left.

"Ah ouch!" he growled when I punched him in the shoulder.

"You used to be tender but now! You're being a harsh!" still he hoarsely said.

"You deserve that! And you call it a beating?" I also punched him on the shoulder.

"It hurts you know?!" he shouted and he was caught on his head with a bandage.

"You sleep badly! One year!" I exaggeratedly said.

"What!? I've been asleep for a year!? What year is it? What month, date today? Ha?" he asked confused.

"I'm just kidding," I said as I walked away from him and he narrowed his eyes.

"There you go! I'll just buy your favorites, because I've run out of Alex's purchases," I said and he suddenly fell silent.

"Alex?" wondering and slowly questioning moreover he grabbed her head.

"Who's Alex?" he asked and I was even surprised by this, because why can't he remember who saved him!? I quickly ran outside and looked for the Doctor earlier.

"Doc, Doc!" I shouted and he turned to me.

"Oh what is it?" he asked.

"My brother. He can't remember the one who visits him!" I tried not to be confused by what I was saying. He also walked back to my older brother's room. He looked at something in his paper and examined it carefully.

"We don't have to worry about his condition now. That's normal in the case of retrograde amnesia, there's a short-lived loss of blood flow, limited epileptic seizures and psychological amnesia tend to be temporary. You may forget for 24 hours. If you don't want to forget him forever, don't try to remember him, Mel.. don't let the named Alex approach him either, is it clear ?" said the doctor and I was enlightened by what he explained.

"Yes Doc," I answered as he left.

"Is Alex important in my life?" he asked and I was wondering if I would answer his question.

"Maybe, only you knew that then," I said as I took my purse from my bag.

"I'm leaving," I said goodbye and left the hospital. While walking, I first called Alex to let him know what had happened.

"Lex," I said as he answered it.

"Oh what's up Mel?" he asked and I could hear him doing something.

"My brother is awake," I said and he suddenly fell silent for a while.

"Really?" he asked eagerly.

"Yes, but...," I interrupted and make the jeep stop.

"But what?" I feel impatient with his tone.

"But there are still complications in his condition now," I said and the car started.

"What are the complications?" he asked.

"Just don't go to the hospital first, don't show up right now," I said in a sad tone.

"What?! I can't hear you!" he shouted.

"I said, don't show your face to my brother for this day only!" my tone got a little louder.

"I can't really hear you. Too much noise from cars!" he shouted and suddenly our call was cut off!

"Oh, I'm dead!" I was still shouting in my mind and I was confused in my heart.

I arrived at the market and just bought brother's favorites like pizza and fruits. I also hurried to buy him something and immediately go to the counter. The queue is too long!!!! Shizz! Alex might go there! He will be really upset if brother didn't remember about him. It was too long before I went to the front and I looked at my cellphone and it was six o'clock! Jusq!

I got in the jeep as soon as I got out of the market, I was in a hurry to run when I got to the hospital. When I got to my brother's room, he was lying on his back, Alex wasn't here so I was really out of breath and then heaved a sigh.

"Nii-san, I'm already here," I said and he looked in my direction.

"Let's eat," I said as I put down what I bought

"You seem to be out of breath when you came here?" he asked.

"Did you run?" he added.

"Yeah, I thought someone had come here," I said and opened the pizza box.

"Someone came here and hugged me right away. I'm just wondering why he did that, is he my relatives?" he asked and my eyes really widened because of what he said today.

"W-what did you tell him?" I asked a bit confused.

"I just asked who he was. He said Alex," he said and I slapped my forehead.

"It's impossible now," I said and laughed sarcastically.

"After that?" I asked as I continued what I was doing.

"He said he was the one who saved me. He said someone hit me on the head with a bat and the suspect was caught," he said and everything he said today is true.

"It's true that he saved you. He's a fool and he didn't listen to me," I said while looking at him.

"Why, is he really that important?" he asked ignorantly.

"I think so," I said and I couldn't think of anything else to do with his condition now.

"Didn't you really know him?" I added.

"It's still no.. that's why he just left without saying a word," he replied and maybe there was really no hope for him to remember Alex again.

"Let's just eat," I just said and he ate.
