Thinking
Thinking
Evelyn's Point of View
I've been trying to ignore the fact that she kidnapped Arthur and raped him, but now I think she has crossed the line. She has fucking crossed the line, and I swear she's going to tell me the truth, or else I'm going to blow her brains out.
But was I even ready to hear the truth? What if she's really pregnant and Arthur is the father of her child?
I paced across the room, and I could taste my blood in my mouth from biting my tongue. I'm trying to control my anger and think clearly, but I don't think I can—I can't fucking calm down or control myself when she's shamelessly claiming that she's pregnant with my husband's child, and he stood there silently without even trying to deny it.
I'm starting to doubt if he was really kidnapped… Maybe he's actually playing me for a fool, and I'm falling for it.
“Pacing won't help you, Evelyn…”
I snapped my gaze to Melinda. She's seated on the couch, her legs crossed, and as she takes sips of wine in the glass she was holding…
I walked to her, and I grasped the glass from her hand and placed it on the table before I settled next to her.
“How can you sit here so calmly after everything that witch has said? She's fucking pregnant, and I'm not sure if Arthur is the father.”
I'm trying hard to keep my emotions under control, but I can't. I can't fucking control myself…
“You have to stay calm no matter how dire the situation is. Getting angry will take away your ability to think, and you'd end up making mistakes, and that is exactly what Priscar wants you to do.”
Melinda’s voice was calm as her gaze locked with mine. How I wish I were like her, but I wasn't. I can't calm down and watch that woman try to ruin my marriage.
“I can't calm down right now, not until I kill that woman… I've had enough of her.. “
I said through my gritted teeth. There's no way I'm going to calm down and let her do as she pleases. I won't allow it to happen no matter what happens.
I rose off the couch, ready to storm out of the room, but Melinda grabbed my arm, stopping me from taking another step.
“Stop acting without thinking, Evelyn… First of all, you don't know what she has against Arthur or how powerful she is. You don't even know what will happen if you were to kill her. Calm down, and let's think of a better plan.”
I let out a sigh. She's right in many ways, and the least I can do is to control my anger and use my brains to think of a better plan to get the truth out of her, or at least some clues to what she's blackmailing Arthur with.
Silence echoed in the room for a few minutes as Melinda and I were in a thinking mode.
I just want a way to have that woman in my custody and make her regret the day she was born. I've had enough of her, and I don't want to keep on dealing with her again and again.
“I think we should kidnap her and torture her so badly that she'd tell us the truth.”
I broke the silence in the room, and Melinda turned her attention to me.
“That could work, but we still need to be careful and think everything through properly…”
Melinda said, and I was glad she agreed with me.
All I'm hoping is that the truth doesn't shatter me in any way. I just hope I get to know what was actually happening and what she was blackmailing Arthur with.
The knock on the door pulled me out of my thoughts; I snapped my gaze to the entrance for a few seconds. I knew who it was, but I don't think I wanted to face him right now, especially if he would keep lying to my face. I didn't want to do something I'd regret later.
My heart began racing as the door flung open and Arthur stepped into the room.
“What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to take care of your pregnant mistress?”
I stared at him blankly. Had he told me the truth then, none of this would have happened.
“Evelyn, can we talk, please?”
His voice is laced with desperation. I averted my gaze, unable to bear the pain flushing in his eyes. The fact that he was lying to my face hurt me more than seeing him in so much pain and still not being able to talk about it.
“I don't want to talk to you. Leave me the fuck alone.”
I snapped, trying hard to be as nonchalant as I could. Talking to him right now was not the best decision.
“Evelyn __”
“Close the door on your way out unless you want me to pack my shit and leave this house. Trust me, you won't ever see me again.”
I hated myself for threatening him, but he didn't leave me any other option. He is the one who chose to lie to me, and I'm doing this my way.
Arthur let out a deep breath; throwing one last look at me, he turned and stepped out of the room, shutting the door behind me.
Tears began welling up in my eyes, and I couldn't even stop them from streaming down my cheeks. I don't like to see him suffering, especially because of me. His world was already chaotic, and now I'm adding my world on his shoulder, which is even more chaotic. It wasn't fair to him.
I felt Melinda pulling me into her tight embrace, and I wrapped my arms around her. I needed this so much, and I'm grateful that she was here with me.
“I'm not going to let her ruin your marriage, Evelyn… This man truly loves you, and you deserve to be happy with him, and I'm unsure of it… Your sister is here, and she won't let anyone make you suffer.” She burst into sobs at her words. How I wish she were right, but it felt as though happiness and I were sworn enemies, and sorrow and I were best friends. Every time I'm happy, something or other happens, and I'd always find myself sad again.
