Chapter 168: 168 Take my wife Elizabeth home
**Caleb's POV**
*
After months of chasing, I, Carolina, and my clan finally made it to the grasslands where the giant monsters lived.
My wife, Elizabeth, was snatched away by three giant monster-like wolves.
At first, I only planned to come alone to save my wife, but Carolina insisted on coming with me.
To my surprise, most of my clan members also came with me to rescue Elizabeth.
Even though I had announced that I would no longer be the Alpha of the Poison Wolves, all the Poison Wolves could go wherever they wanted to go, they said they held Elizabeth in the highest esteem as Luna, and they must save their Luna.
So all of us embarked on a journey to save Elizabeth.
Those huge monsters were really too fast. Also, we were not familiar with the outside world. It took us a long time to track them down.
After inquiring, we knew that those huge monsters were giant wolves.
Many passersby advised us not to make enemies with the giant wolves because they were very powerful beings. I thanked them for their kind warnings, but I had to take my wife back.
We saw a huge palace in the grassland, and outside the palace stood giant wolves five times bigger than us.
Carolina was scared and hid behind me.
"You can stay here and wait. Carolina. I will go up and ask them something about Elizabeth."
Carolina shook her head and said in sign language, "I'll come with you." Then she tugged at my sleeve.
I gently stroked my sister's hair, " Be good. You stay here and let them protect you. I can only rest easy by making sure you're safe."
I ordered most of the clan to stay where they were, then took two of my subordinates and set off.
We walked together to the palace guards. I raised my head and said, "My name is Caleb, Alpha of the Poison Wolves. I have come to take my wife Elizabeth home."
"Please wait a minute. I will report to the king."
One of the guards left, and after a moment, he returned and opened the gate to invite us in.
"The king wants to see you."
I was hesitating to take Carolina in with me when the guard added, "Lady Elizabeth is loved and respected by all the giant wolves. She is our country's most honored guest and friend. Our king will definitely treat Lady Elizabeth's relatives well. Please follow me."
I was a little confused. I was under the impression that Elizabeth had been snatched by them. I thought she would become a prisoner. But why did they say that Elizabeth had gained the respect of everyone?
With such a question, I quietly asked my clan to stay alert. They were going to protect my sister Carolina as soon as they found out there was danger.
Then we walked into the royal palace together.
Fortunately, we were not attacked in the palace, and on the contrary, we were treated with hospitality by the king.
The old king seemed to be a majestic and friendly man. He had prepared a very good meal for us.
But I wasn't in the mood to enjoy the food. I quickly asked the king about Elizabeth.
The old king sighed and then told me about what Elizabeth had experienced there. He praised Elizabeth's bravery, and he said it was Elizabeth who saved all the giant wolves.
My clan nodded as they listened.
Elizabeth is such an amazing and brave girl. Wherever she goes, she brings incredible change and desirable peace to that place.
"So where is Elizabeth now?" I finally asked the question I most wanted to ask. The sadness in the old king's eyes gave me a sense of foreboding.
He spoke in a tone as if he was remembering a heroine who had passed away.
"I'm sorry to say that Elizabeth was attacked by an evil winged wolf. During the fight, Elizabeth fell down below the Forbidden Valley with that evil winged wolf."
Hearing this unfortunate news, I and all my clan members stood up nervously.
"Where is the Forbidden Valley? Take us there!"
"Please calm down," the old king said, rising from his seat and walking over to me.
"From the day Elizabeth fell down the forbidden valley, we never stopped trying to go down and rescue her. However, a special gale stood between the grassland and the valley. It would sweep people into the valley floor. So far, no one has been able to land safely at the bottom of the valley alive and send us a message."
My heart broke into a million pieces. I couldn't accept my hard search resulted in such a bad outcome.
"By all means, take me to the cliff where Elizabeth fell. I will do whatever it takes to get down to the forbidden valley to find her."
The old king sighed, "I thought you would give me such an answer. Elizabeth is such an admirable person. So many people are willing to do whatever it takes to save her. Okay, I'll take you to the cliff where Elizabeth fell. But before we go, we need to take another person with us."
"Who?"
"A guy who, like you, is willing to do whatever it takes to get down to the forbidden valley to find Elizabeth."
We followed the king to the door of a room in the palace. A kilometer away from the room, we could already hear a man's voice shouting, "Let me out! Father! Let me out of here! I'm going to save Elizabeth!"
"Let me out!"
Without me asking, the old king took it upon himself to explain, "The man in the room is my son, Elroy, who is a willful and impulsive fellow. To tell you the truth, he is deeply infatuated with Elizabeth, and ever since Elizabeth fell into the forbidden valley, Elroy has wanted to jump down to find her. In such an irrational state, jumping down the valley, Elroy would surely die. So I locked him in the room to keep him from getting out."
The old king opened the room, and a huge white wolf immediately jumped out.
I recognized him. I was very familiar with his scent. He was the giant wolf that had taken Elizabeth away from the Poison Mist Forest.
The giant white wolf tried to escape as soon as he rushed out of the room, but he couldn't break free because of the huge chains tied to his feet.
"Dad! Help me untie the chains! I'm going to save Elizabeth! She must still be alive! She's waiting for me! Why are you stopping me from saving her?"
"Calm down! You are the prince of the giant wolves, you are the future king of this country. I told you that you can't be impulsive like a child. I never stopped you from saving Elizabeth. I just stopped you from doing something stupid. Jumping straight down into the forbidden valley is not saving a life. It's suicide."
After reprimanding his son, the old king sighed again, "That Alpha of the winged wolf is much calmer in comparison. He's just as worried about Elizabeth as you are, and he spends every day looking for a way to the Forbidden Valley, but he doesn't jump straight down like you do."
"That's because Isidore doesn't love Elizabeth as much as I do! If he had succeeded in stopping his brother, Elizabeth wouldn't be held hostage by his bastard brother!"
"Shut up! Elizabeth's husband is right here. He loves Elizabeth more than you do! But he doesn't yell childishly like you do!"
It wasn't until that moment that Elroy noticed that I was standing beside the Old King.
The expression on his face instantly changed from anger to shame, and after a moment, he lowered his head and said in a small voice, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have taken Elizabeth out of the Poison Mist Forest. Maybe it's safest for her to stay there."
I really wanted to punch Elroy hard. If he hadn't arbitrarily and forcibly taken Elizabeth away, then Elizabeth and I would be living a happy life in the Poison Mist Forest right now.
But I didn't do it, because, with the huge size difference, my fists couldn't do a bit of damage to the giant wolves. Besides, I didn't want to waste my time fighting and arguing with them, I just wanted to find Elizabeth quickly.
"Stop talking such nonsense. Quickly take me to the cliff where Elizabeth fell."
Just as I finished speaking, Elroy immediately said, "I want to go too! Dad, hurry up and unlock the chains. I'm going too! I swear I won't do anything irrational!"
"That's why I'm here," the old king said, gesturing for the servants to unlock the chains, "Elizabeth has been kind to our country. As the prince of our country, you must save her. Beyond that, all the trouble was caused by your caprice, and you are responsible for solving it."
"Alpha Caleb, I am sorry for taking your time. Please allow my awful son to come with you. Even though he is always causing trouble, he knows the grasslands well, and he would be a good helper." The old king said to me.
I didn't deny the old king's words. As long as I could save Elizabeth, I didn't mind working with anyone, even my wife's admirer.
After I nodded my head, Elroy rushed out impatiently, "Elizabeth! Wait for me!"
I didn't hesitate and took Carolina's hand and chased after him.
Elroy ran very, very fast. I had to turn into a wolf and run so that I could see his back.
When I caught up with Elroy, I was surprised to find that another man with wings was already standing on the edge of the cliff.
The man's wings were special, half golden and the other half black. He was so different.
"You coward Isidore! Don't you have two fvcking wings? Why do you always stand on the edge of the cliff and watch? Can't you just fvcking fly down and scout?" Elroy had taken human form, and he was arguing with the man with the wings.
I could easily recognize Elroy's human form because he was three times the size of the man with the wings.
"Shut up, you muscle-brained dumbass! I spend every day trying to find Elizabeth, unlike you, who does nothing but get locked in my room by your dad and make noise every day."
Isidore sarcastically pushed Elroy away, then ordered his subordinates to tie one end of the rope to a tree and the other end to their waists, then slowly climbed down the forbidden valley with the help of the rope.
Elroy was not convinced, "But your attempts are not productive! You winged wolves have two big, cumbersome wings that get blown yawed from side to side by the gale as soon as you go down.
Your stupid wings are like dandelions that turn into obedient, good babies as soon as they meet the wind. Your attempts for so many days have only verified one thing, and that is that no matter from which place you enter the forbidden valley, you will be blocked by the gale."
"Well, you giant wolves aren't affected by the gale, so why don't you go save Elizabeth? Oh, I got it, because there is no rope or tree that can bear the weight of your body. Once your bulky bodies fall to the bottom of the forbidden valley, you will become a puddle of mush!"
Hearing the two of them embarrass each other, I couldn't stand it anymore. I stepped forward, "Let me try."
