Chapter 104: The Twist of Events 32
“This man is not concerned about his citizens in any way.”
Mr. Morris mumbled and shook his head in disappointment because he was aware that he would not outsmart Jeff.
Then, Jeff smiled and spoke.
“Thank you, your Excellency, that is very thoughtful of you. If it is okay by you, we will wait for the outcome of your council meeting before we commence the administration of the vaccine?”
Now, the council members, who were with him, were aware of his dubious intentions, and they frowned at it. He observed the looks on their faces and looked at Jeff. Then, Jeff carried on.
“Without any other thing, I hereby…”
Then, the head of the Government interrupted him and asked anxiously.
“No, Mr. Israel. Kindly make your demand. What would you like us to do that would recompense your organization?”
“I'm waiting for the outcome of your council meeting, your Excellency.”
“Never mind. Just place your demand.”
The council members supported him by shaking their heads. Then, Jeff requested.
“Our demand is simple, considering the fact that we err from time to time. We will not ask for too much, but only four hundred hectares of your gold field.”
Now, the expression on the faces of the council members failed.
'If they had agreed with me, this issue would have been resolved amicably.'
Mr. Jomo mumbled bitterly.
“Let me give you time to ponder on it.”
Jeff concluded and attempted to get up from the conference table. Then, the Head of the Government spoke.
“Your demand is quite enormous, but it is nothing compared to the lives of our citizens, who are dying every minute. Your request is granted.”
“Thank you for your understanding, your Excellency.”
He appreciated with a smile. Subsequently, he looked at his members, and they were happy too. To seal the head of the government’s promise, they signed papers and took photographs. After the meeting, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Mrs. Winifred Bandile and the Works Minister agreed with Jeff on when to visit the gold field. Then, the administration of the vaccine commenced afterwards. Meanwhile, Dr. Nkosi and his council members fell into the pit that they had dug for the company. The cost of importing the vaccine would have been less than the cost of the four hundred hectares of the goldfield. However, the press release favored the government and the company. Now, on a personal and political note, the Head of the Government took a special interest in Jeff and wished to be more friendly with him.
“Thank you for your intervention, Hon. Garrett.”
“I'm glad to be of assistance, your Excellency. I never expected that the meeting would end up like this. In my opinion, I never knew that the chap would be bold enough to ask many questions.”
“I felt the same way, but he proved that he knows his onion.”
“Well, I'm happy that you are seeing beyond the embarrassment.”
“Not at all. In a rat race, everyone wishes to win. He had worn today. I may win tomorrow.”
“You got it. See you later, your Excellency.”
“One more thing, Honorable.”
“Yes.”
“I would love to invite you and the young CEO to a dinner tomorrow. How about that?”
“Consider it done, your Excellency. I will inform him.”
“Thank you. I will send the details to you. See you later.”
They left the vestibule after their discussions.
Meanwhile, after the meeting, Jeff got commendation messages from his parents and he was elated. The essence of investing in the medical research was fruitful. While baking the people's bread, they got their cake.
“We shall be on our way, Mr. Noble.”
“Yes, boss…”
Jeff, who was aware of his next statement, interrupted.
“After visiting the clinic.”
“It's all right, boss.”
They left for the clinic, and he chatted with the fifteen Canadians and one foreigner. Nevertheless, he discovered that the foreigner was a Nigerian, who was stranded in South Africa. He was sponsored by a drug syndicate against his wish, who promised him a good job. When he landed and discovered that the job entailed drug trafficking, he played along. He saw other young boys and girls, who were victims like him. When they protested, they were shot in the legs and thrown into the bush to die a painful death. Then, when he got the opportunity, he escaped and volunteered himself to work at a health center.
“What is your name?”
“My name is Mike Bruce.”
Jeff shook his head in different directions and inquired further.
“Can you trace the syndicate?”
Now, Mike's eyes were moist, and he showed fears. Then, he requested.
“I would rather not have anything to do with them. My only wish is to return to my country and meet my parents. They would have been worried to death.”
“You are right. We will talk more on this. Meanwhile, can I have your details and contact?”
“All right, Young Master. But I can't find my phone.”
“Just include your contact in the details.”
“I will.”
Subsequently, he gave his details to Val at once. Likewise, Jeff addressed the sixteen Canadians and assured them.
“You will leave for Canada in a couple of days. Did you get me?”
“Yes. Young Master.”
They responded coldly. He ignored them and asked.
“I guess that your immediate need is to contact your parents.”
“Yes.”
Now, Jeff turned to Ralf and ordered.
“Get the procurement department to get sixteen phones for me right away.”
“Consider it done, boss.”
Now, he was more concerned with the Nigerian and the syndicates. So, he walked to Jennifer's ward and was pleased with her look and spoke.
“Jennifer, we would have returned to Canada if not for you. Get well soon.”
He walked out as quickly as he walked in.
“We are returning to the office.”
He announced.
“All right, boss.”
Val, who thought that he was returning to the office to wait for Ralf, responded. Soon, they were at the Chairman's office.
“Get the Head of the ICT Department for me, Jerry.”
“Okay, boss.”
While he was waiting, he sent messages to his father and grandfather, informing them of his discovery. They responded cheerfully, and he promised to give them the update.
