Chapter 64

Chapter 64
Jonathan knew he was not going to find her now, there was no point, no point whatsoever in hanging around here any longer. He reassured himself, that someone as clueless as Clare would pop up eventually and when she did, he would be ready for her.

He planned what he was going to do with her as he began the long journey home.

Clive watched Clare; he knew she was not asleep. “I guess we need to get you organised, don’t we?” He said matter of factly.

“I will call Leon again, he knows someone. Maybe he can organise something for me again. I left everything in the car when I made a run for it.” Her eyes downcast, maybe it was time to let Clive know the truth.

“I told you before Clare, I don’t need to know the ins and outs of your business. I am only here to help you; it doesn’t take an idiot to see you’ve got nothing on you. No money, phone or purse. Just give me the basic details and let’s see if we can at least get some your personal belongings.” He watched as she lifted her eyes.

“I can handle this; I can speak to my brother. He helped me with some bits that I needed, I’m sure if I call him, we can get something sorted out.”

“No problem. I’ll leave you to call him again and then we’ll take it from there. Don’t you think it would be an awful lot easier if we or I even, just went and retrieved them for you?”

Clare weighed up his words. “Listen just think about it. It sounds to me as if your brother would have to go to an awful lot of trouble, when I could just go and get what you need from wherever it is you left everything.”

He smiled; Clare smiled back. He does have a point! “I guess it would make more sense.” She offered. Clive got up to stretch his long legs.

“I don’t mind at all. I’m sure you have different plans than sitting on my sofa once that ankle is on the mend.” He was right. The plan that Lauren had come up with for her new life, so far was not going according to plan.

“I’d better let you know who has my bag.” She sighed.

“Good idea.” She did not look like the sort of girl who would survive long out there on her own with absolutely nothing. There were street-smart girls and there were those less savvy, and Clare was definitely not street smart. He would have to ensure he changed that for her.
