Chapter 63
The woman stood standing on the edge of the woodland, now where would she go? She had no option but to turn back and make her way into the town where she had just come from. Cautiously she remained as far out of sight from Tim and Jonathan as she could.
The shotgun was pointing straight at Jonathan; even she knew he would have to back down. She was not entirely sure how serious this Tim man was, either way with that barrel at the front of your face and the look in his eyes, she was sure that this time, Jonathan had met his match.
She watched him relent, sensing the seething rage running through his veins. If there was one thing she knew about Jonathan, was that he hated to give up.
He knew when he was beaten on a round. He spat the words out at Tim who stood his ground. He had come across men like this before; Jonathan threatening to kill Clare held no stead with him. He was everything Clare had said he was.
She watched the exchange. Jonathan turned on his heels and headed back to the severely damaged BMW. She waited for him to drive off, would he notice her green car parked on the verge. Would he even pay attention to it?
Tim waited until the BMW was out of sight. He felt as if someone was watching him. The hairs on the back of his neck prickled against his shirt collar and a cold shiver passed through his body.
She was hidden out of sight, shielded by the large trunks and ferns. Tim looked around him and then straight into the wood where she was tucked away.
He squinted his eyes, had he seen something move? Perhaps it was Clare, he told himself. “Clare. Clare is that you?” He shouted out and waited for a reply.
None was forthcoming. He had half hoped to hear her call back, he had hoped that maybe she had stuck around long enough to witness Jonathan leaving with his tail between his legs.
“It’s OK Clare. It’s safe you can come out!” He shouted out as he began to walk to where the woman was hiding.
“Holy Shit!” She muttered as he came closer and closer, his shotgun still in his hand. If she moved, he would hear her.
