Chapter 59

CLARISSA:

Amber and Jason were at Jason’s pack for a long time since that young woman fainted during the hunt, I hoped she was alright though, Amber seemed pretty worried about her, I had wanted to stay behind too, but I had Cisca to think about — she had to be back at school by the beginning of the new week, and I did bit want to bother Nolle, who had bigger responsibilities now that she was the chief Chef of the restaurant she worked in.

I was exhilarated when, I was in the room waiting for cisca to get dressed so I could drive her to school before heading to check on Grandma Carter, who in her part had transitioned into an angel; I got a call on my cell phone.

“Don’t you think you’re a little late for work miss?” Jason’s voice stunned me completely.

“Jason!” I gasped, “you’re back! When did you get back?” I chirped, suddenly eager to be at work. With the phone still held up to my ears, I walked to Cisca’s room to make sure she had not fallen asleep again, she was half-dressed, her pink smocked top barely over her stomach and her pants still on the bed.

“Just yesterday, Amber is back too. When are you coming in to work?” Jason said and asked.

“Um, soon. I just need to take Cisca to school.” I answered. Alright, I’ll leave you to it.” He said and hung up the call.

“Was that uncle Jason? Is he back?!” Cisca chirped a smile spread across her vanilla lips, she must have missed Jason as much as I did.

“I wanna go see him! Please, mummy, please.” She pleaded, giving me the moist puppy eyes.

“Oh no, Cisca, you have got to go to school now. Uncle Jason comes later.” I said, picking her jeans from her bed and walking towards her to help her put it on.

“But I want to see him now!” She protested, posted her lips and folded her arms in defiance.

“come on girl! Get in your jeans, I’m late for work already.” I held the jeans open before her leg, and shook it as a gesture to make her get in it, yet she refused to wear her clothes, the ticking of the clock in the living room suddenly became louder than usual, as though it were lodged in my ear.

“Okay Cisca, I’ll tell Jason that you miss him incredibly, and I’ll invite him to lunch. And if you’re good at school I’ll invite Amber too, now get in your jeans.”

“Pinky promise?” Cisca said, drawing closer and sticking out her pinky.

“Pinky promise.” I echoed, sticking out my own pinky and intertwining it with hers, before cutting it, and sealing the pinky promise, there’s was no going back on my promise, or Cisca would have pestered me forever. We got into the car and drove off towards her school, Cisca chattered all the way, talking about all the adventures she had been through with Jason, and telling me all the things she would love to inform him of when they met.

I dropped her off, and drove down street to Grandma Carter’s house where I presumed Jason was already.

JASON:

As I walked into grandma’s home, my heart skipped a beat. It had been too long since I had seen her, and the mere thought of her made my wolf stir inside me. I spotted her in the living room, attending to Grandma Carter with such tenderness and care. I made my way towards her, my steps quickening with each passing second.

“Clarissa!” I called out as I approached her. She turned towards me, her eyes widening with surprise before transforming into a joyous sparkle. In an instant, she was in my arms, and I held her tight, relishing the feeling of her warmth and scent.

“Oh, Jason, I’ve missed you so much,” Clarissa whispered, her voice filled with longing.

“I’ve missed you too, more than words can express,” I murmured, my fingers gently stroking her hair. We held onto each other for a while, lost in our reunion, until finally, we reluctantly pulled apart.

“What’s wrong, Jason?” Clarissa asked, concern etched across her face. “You look sad.”

I sighed, realizing that I couldn’t keep my emotions hidden from her. “It’s a long story, Clarissa. We’ll talk about it later. Right now, I just want to be with you.”

She nodded understandingly, her hand reaching out to grasp mine. “Alright, we’ll find the time to talk. But for now, let’s focus on the now, come see your grandmother, she’s been pining for you. ”

CLARISSA:

I couldn’t contain my excitement as I extended the invitation to Jason and Amber. “You both should come over for dinner tonight. It’ll be great to catch up properly and have some time together.”

Amber’s eyes lit up, and she nodded eagerly. “That sounds wonderful, Clarissa. We’d love to join you.”

Jason looked at me appreciatively, a mix of gratitude and sadness in his eyes. “Thank you, Clarissa. It means a lot to both of us.”

Before we could continue our conversation, a familiar voice called out, “Mummy, is that Uncle Jason and Auntie Amber?” Cisca came bounding towards us, a wide grin on her face.

“Hey, Cisca!” Jason crouched down to her level, opening his arms for a hug. Cisca launched herself into his embrace, her excitement palpable.

“I missed you, Uncle Jason! Where have you been? Are you back for good?” Cisca bombarded him with questions, her curiosity overflowing.

Amber joined in, laughing warmly. “Well, Cisca, we’ve been on a little adventure. Jason’s pack needed our help, and we had some important things to take care of. But we’re back now, and we’re so happy to see you.”

Cisca’s eyes widened, her gaze shifting to Amber. “Auntie Amber, did you fight with a big wolf too?”

Amber chuckled, ruffling Cisca’s hair. “Oh, something like that. But don’t worry, we’re all safe now.”

As the excitement settled down, we gathered in the cozy living room to talk and catch up on everything that happened. Nolle appeared to take the reluctant Cisca to bed and Amber left for her house, leaving just me and Jason in the living room.

“let’s go for a walk, then we can talk” Jason said, he looked so tired and I wanted to just hold him. I knew how stressful the work of a Alpha could be, I had been close enough to one to know. There was no respite in being an alpha.

“Alright, let’s go.”
