Chapter 77 The Undercover Agent {3}
Jacqueline's pov
"And as for you," Alexandro's eyes fell on me.
I felt my voice caught in my throat. Would I also become dead meat once my cover was blown?
My heart began to race as Alexandro strode towards me. His eyes settled over me like he could see through the images of my heart.
"You work for me now, what's your name?" He asked me.
"Suarez Salvador," I kept a straight face.
He nodded, then with a glance at Bruno, he said, "Take him to Carlo's room."
"Thank you so much for this opportunity. I'll never betray you!" My voice echoed as his heels clicked on the marble floor.
Bruno gave a curt nod towards Alexandro as he guided me with a crane of his neck. I followed Bruno along a flight of stairs until we arrived in a vast corridor that had several doors.
He led me to one of the rooms and opened the doors. The room was spacious and had in it a fluffy bed.
The moment I walked into it, Bruno turned the lock behind him and grabbed my collar.
"You bring down another to take his place, who the hell are you, trying to buy Alexandro's affections, aren't you?" Bruno's breath stank of Broccoli.
I shoved at Bruno's chest despite my thudding heart. How could I be so relaxed that after my silly play, I wouldn't have an enemy lurking at my neck?
Bruno shoved me hard against the door as his eyes tore through my defenses. "Let's hope you will be able to last here either way. Without the master's protection, you are already dead meat," he huffed.
Once he released me, he pushed me out of his way, opened the door and walked out.
I sighed. This was the price I had to pay for being close to Alexandro - the mafia king. Then, I sent a cryptic message to Damian with the secret phone that had been given to me by Maurice.
I sat at the edge of the bed gathering how I was supposed to go into Alexandro's room, hop into his system, and retrieve every delicate piece of information about his business in the last 30 days down to the murder of the president's brother.
Alexandro was a known suspect in the murder of Sullivan, the president's brother. Although there was no evidence to bring him to justice, Maurice had been forced to put a plug on him.
Agent Drew had almost lost his life for this cause. Maurice was believing in me that I could change all of that.
I couldn't bring myself to sleep after I'd washed up. I had to do what I had to do quickly before anyone would discover who I truly was.
The next few days, Alexandro had me by his side - his eyes intently studied me while he sent me on several errands in the polished mansion. I began to wonder why he preferred to call me instead of the familiar men who had been working for him even before I arrived.
"You said you dropped out from high school because I was your role model...," Alexandro eyed me as I wiped the desk before him.
Bruno had left me with him alone while Alexandro's eyes were fastened on me as I cleaned.
I cleared my throat, trying to think of something. When had I said something as absurd as that? "Yes, I did say that," I nodded in affirmative.
"You don't seem much like the street type," he observed coming around the table to cage me.
My heart began to thud as I bowed my head slightly. I could smell his masculine presence - thick with a cigar and faint cologne.
His hand flipped through the top of my gaped shirt, and my hand instinctively rushed up and grabbed his hand in between.
Did he catch sight of my breasts?
I peered up to meet his dark gaze - then I slowly lowered my hand from his hand.
"You have a tattoo of a dove on your chest, looks much feminine for a guy like you," his eyes dropped to the area between my shoulder bones and my chest.
My chest rose and fell rapidly. I was hoping he wouldn't note the slight build of my chest. Luckily, I had wrapped it quite well, yet one could decipher the size of them whenever I had on a tight top. So I never wore anything tight that could reveal so much.
"What does it signify?" His eyes probed deep, fanning my face with his smoke.
"Peace for the moment, avengement for another time," I replied.
The corner of his lips quirked high. "How does a dove simply symbolize all that?"
I watched him closely, I had never seen him smile so brightly. Was he fascinated by my simple tattoo?
He doved his head lower, sniffling the nape of my neck, while stopping to watch me flinch.
What was he doing?
"He's into men...," the words of Maurice sliced through me.
But the Mafia king possibly can't be into me just over some days with him. He probably was keeping me close, under the radar - watching until I slack.
Maybe he also doesn't trust me, I could be anybody - an enemy or a friend - like my backstory had inscribed.
His lips stopped just mere inches from my mouth. I tried to calm myself down, hoping he wouldn't detect anything wrong with me.
"I'd lost my brother to the clashes Downtown, he was fighting for the peace of the community when the thugs gunned him down," I responded smoothly to his last question.
His brows twitched and he automatically turned away when the door opened. Bruno stood, perched by the entrance of the door. He had a scowl on his face when our eyes jammed.
"Boss, the supplies have arrived Downtown. Our Intel tells us it would be best to pick up by 7 on the dot given that we won't have many of the secret agents on our backs," Bruno explained.
Alexandro's eyes shot at me in that split second, I turned away - acting deaf to what had been said.
Something was wrong. I shouldn't have mentioned the fact that my brother had been an activist - silly of me to lie about some brother whom I never had.
"Who's picking up the goods?" Alexandro strode to the window, looking over at the rising sun.
"Ramsey and I," Bruno put in.
"Let Suarez do the job. I believe he's fit for it. Ramsey would accompany him." Alexandro turned to face me.
Bruno's brows knotted. "But Boss, he's just a newbie!" Bruno protested.
"Hasn't he been following your leads, Bruno?" Alexandro quipped.
My fingers clenched around the table. This was not happening - Alexandro was probably suspecting me.
"He has," Bruno said.
"Let him do it."
