Chapter 20 A Fight

Chapter 20 A Fight
“I met one of his friends,” I tell Beth while throwing the piece of grass I had been playing with to the side.

“Was he hot and single?” She asks, looking over at me from her sunbathing spot.

I grab another piece of grass, throwing it at her this time.

“Seriously, I need some romance this summer too; you’ve been hogging all of it.”

I think back on Noah, realizing I didn’t pay much attention to him or his looks when we met. “He’s good-looking.”

She sighs dramatically, “But of course, no one compares to my soul-crushingly hot boyfriend named Alec.”

She laughs at my offended look. “Oh, come on Anna, I’m just teasing, but maybe you could set us up?”

“I’ll ask Alec, but I don’t even know if he’s single, Bethy.”

“Have you seen Cassie around?” She changes the subject.

“Now that you mention it, no, I haven’t seen her since a few days after the party. Have you?” She shakes her head.

“Should we be worried that something happened to her?” I

want to say yes, but I also know camp activities have started full swing, and the last thing I want us to be is nags. “I don’t think so, she’s probably just busy with her other friends.”

Beth seems apprehensive about my answer, promising, “If we don’t see her in two more days, I’m hunting her down.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

“When are you seeing your husband again?” She loves to pick on me about our relationship.

We’re extremely close, although it’s only been a short time together, it feels like I’ve known him my whole life.

“I don’t know yet, he hasn’t said when, but I think I’m gonna sneak him into camp, show him my cabin. Maybe he can meet you if you promise to behave.” I give her a pointed look.

She looks excited about the idea. “Yes, please, I want to officially meet him. Text him you should set up the meeting this time anyway, it’s always him doing it.”

So that night, I followed her advice, texting him to ask when he could come over next. And just for Beth’s sake, he’s coming today.

“Okay, he’s going to be here any minute. Do I look good?” I ask her again.

Although he’s been inside my cabin before. I suddenly feel more self-conscious; maybe it’s because Beth is here too. She leans back in one of the desk chairs she’d pulled out, giving me another thumbs up.

“You still look good.” I sit in another one of the chairs beside her.

“Don’t make me look bad.”

She giggles, “From what I’ve been told, he’s in love with you already, so I think you’re safe.”

I giggle along with her; she’s not wrong. He does act like a love-sick puppy with me. The creaking of the door signals his arrival. He’s wearing basketball shorts and an old t-shirt. I told him to try and blend in with the campers, but with his looks clothes don’t hide him much.

I bolt up from my chair, meeting him halfway across the room. He wraps his big arms around me tightly puling me to him. I swear he even sniffs my neck when he leans down. Sometimes I catch him doing some weird, borderline animalistic things. But a few things here and there don't bother me.

“Hi.” I greet him, pulling out of the hug but keeping my arm around his back.

“Hi.” His deep voice graces my ears. He looks away from me as Beth stands from her chair.

“Hello. I’m Beth.” He gives her a polite smile.

“Nice to meet you, Beth. I’m Alec.” She looks him up and down, seemingly to get a vibe from him.

“Okay, I approve. You did great.” She looks at me, ignoring his presence in the room.

I nod at her, trying to convey my words. Now she can see why I’m also just as in love with him.

“I guess I’ll leave you two love birds alone and find some other people to bother.” She walks around us, looking at me once behind him, giving the okay symbol with her hands.

I nod eagerly, hopeful that Alec isn’t catching our communication.

“She seems nice.” He jokes after we’re left alone in the room.

“She is nice, but she can be kind of crazy, too. Anyways this is my room, well, more like my bed. There really isn’t much to note, nothing like your house, thats forsure.”

He looks around my bed, walking to the dresser that houses half my things on top. My mp3 player, along with some perfume bottles, make up the majority of the dresser. He picks up one of the perfume bottles, smelling it with a disgusted look on his face.

“Whered’ you get this one?” I know it’s not the best-smelling perfume in the world, but I don’t hate it, and it surely doesn’t stink as bad as he’s acting.

“My parents make it and give it to me for my birthday every year.”

“It’s not the best smelling thing, huh?” He chuckles, trying to joke about it, and although I don’t think it smells bad, I make a vow to stop wearing that perfume. The last thing I want is for him to be grossed out by my smell.

“There really isn’t much to do here. Did you have anything in mind?”

His face automatically shifts into a smirk. “I can think of a few things.”

He grabs me below my waist, lifting me up with him. I throw my arms around his neck, and my legs wrap tightly around his hips to steady myself. In this position, my face is at the perfect level with his. Somehow, with his muscles, he can hold me up, not dropping me as we look at each other intently.

“Kiss me.” I ordered him. He obeys, pushing his lips to my quickly.

The kiss is needy, desperate. All I want is to feel him closer. The door slams shut, jolting me out of my skin. He stops kissing me, turning us slightly to see who it is.

“Well, if it isn’t the slut of cabin 3.” Kiersten and Lexie stand at the entrance.

Looking ready for a fight.
