Chapter 184: Press Conference
When everyone heard this, they immediately understood what it meant. What kind of organization would dare to fake these reports?
If they got caught, the consequences would be disastrous. No one would take responsibility for something like that—after all, nobody wanted to get themselves in trouble.
"Investigate. Find out what the people behind this are trying to do, and how they dare to publish false reports," Alexander said. The entire team immediately began looking into the current situation. The results of the investigation were truly shocking.
"We found something. It looks like it was done at a pretty well-known company, and the so-called famous expert is Dr. William Lau."
"This guy has quite a background. After investigating, we found out he had already kicked out of his school for academic fraud. He's not even in this industry anymore."
Their team was incredibly capable—they could investigate basically anything and dig up all the information very clearly.
Zack's voice carried a hint of urgency. "The other side is smart. They encrypted all the money through multiple layers. If we want to track it down before tomorrow morning, it's going to be pretty difficult."
The main issue was that time was too short. If they released this information first, everyone would start spreading these rumors.
Catherine felt a headache coming on just thinking about it. After a moment's thought, she suddenly asked a question.
"Mark all the final destinations of the money transfers on this map. Let me take a look."
After all, this was a large sum of money. It would be difficult to transfer it out in such a short time, especially since it was currently overseas.
The technical staff was slightly taken aback. Though somewhat confused, they immediately complied.
A few seconds later, the map appeared on the big screen, showing exactly where everything was distributed.
"Zoom in on the Emerald City area," Catherine ordered again.
The map zoomed in. Within the Emerald City area, three red dots appeared, clearly showing they were planning to transfer money there.
"Check all company and personal accounts at these three addresses, especially those with transactions in the last month."
Everyone was extremely tense, especially with such a big problem emerging and a press conference scheduled for tomorrow morning. They had to intercept this before the other side made their move.
Several technicians started typing away on their computers. No one dared to stop. After typing for a while, everyone felt tired.
"I found something. The legal representative of one of these places is Samuel, and within one day, he withdrew money from both of these locations."
When Catherine heard this, she understood what it meant. No wonder someone would do something like this—they were clearly jealous of her.
Just then, Liam's call came through. Alexander put it on speaker.
"Alexander, we've got a big problem!" Liam's voice was unusually serious. "I just got word that Andrew used the company's last piece of land as collateral yesterday!"
When he first learned this news, he could hardly believe it. What kind of person would do something like this?
When Alexander got this news, there was a trace of surprise in his eyes. "When did you get this information?"
He hadn't received any information on his end. Hearing this, Liam sighed.
"They said it while drunk. When I asked around, I felt something was off. It's like dealing with a crazy person."
Hearing this, Alexander had a pretty good idea. After speaking, he hung up the phone. "Alright, I know about this. You don't need to worry about it."
A slight smile curved Catherine's lips. She now understood what was going on.
"Zack."
"Yes."
"Notify the PR department. Send out invitations to the media immediately."
Catherine stood up, her gaze sweeping over everyone present, her voice steady. "Tell them that tomorrow morning at nine o'clock, the Harrison Group will hold an emergency press conference, and I will personally respond to all questions."
The PR director was startled and quickly said, "Ms. Spencer, our evidence chain isn't complete yet. If we hold a press conference now and the other side catches us..."
Catherine interrupted him, her eyes sharp as knives. "If I don't come forward to answer these questions, they'll keep pestering us. Better to clear things up quickly."
...
The next day, at 8:50 a.m., at the Harrison Group headquarters, reporters crowded together, all hoping to uncover explosive news.
"I have to get the story this time. Maybe I'll get promoted to director."
"Don't get your hopes up. They specially called us here—it can't be that simple. There must be something to announce, and with so many people here, you think you can get the scoop?"
All their news was broadcast in real-time. As soon as the information came out, it would be published immediately. The whole process wouldn't take more than a few minutes.
At her home, Lucy wore a dress and held a glass of champagne, watching the live broadcast of the press conference on the wall screen.
"Catherine, let me see how you survive this!" she muttered to herself.
At exactly nine o'clock, everyone immediately raised their cameras, aiming at one angle and shooting continuously. Catherine, wearing a white suit, walked over quietly.
No one followed behind her, and she wasn't even carrying any documents. Her eyes showed no particular emotion as she looked at everyone.
Catherine just stood there for a few seconds, then raised her eyes, her gaze sweeping across the room, her expression very serious, showing almost no emotion.
"Ms. Spencer, now that such a big problem has emerged, is there something you want to tell us?"
A reporter stood up from the crowd and immediately asked a question without waiting for her to speak.
Catherine smiled slightly. "I'll answer all your questions, but how about you let me talk about what's been happening recently first?"
She knew there would inevitably be other people mixed in the crowd, but it didn't matter—she already had some evidence ready.
The other media were very sharp with their words. Hearing this, they felt something was off.
"If you're going to say it eventually, why not say it now? Is there something you can't talk about?"
"Are all these things reported online true? Do people really get allergic reactions from taking your company's medicine?"
"If the medicine causes allergic reactions, why are you still selling it? Is there some reason? Or do you think there's no limit to making money?"
These reporters knew exactly what the public wanted to hear, so their questions were very sharp.
