If you do, Edwin will bring over a gown and some jewelry later. You’ll have to try them on first.”
Her grandmother smiled and shook her head. “I won’t go. Let’s see if Lucille wants to go have some fun.”
Lucille wondered, since it was her cousin’s first time in the country, was he unfamiliar with some of the local customs?
And he was the host, so did he need her to accompany him?
But… her foot. Would she be an embarrassment to her cousin?
After hesitating, she decisively agreed. Since her cousin had asked her, he probably wanted her to go, so she would go with him!
Robert was quite pleased. “Great, then I’ll have Edwin send you a gown…” He thought for a moment and added, “Actually, never mind. Tomorrow, I’ll take you to buy one. I don’t really trust Edwin’s taste in clothes for girls.”
Lucille pressed her lips into a smile and nodded vigorously. Perfect, she wanted to go to Helen Taylor’s studio and see her old friend anyway.
Meanwhile, Harlan and David Peterson were sitting in Cedrick’s office, discussing Rossi’s company’s first banquet in Seaston.
“All the prominent figures from every circle will be there, and our company is on the guest list.”
Harlan was very excited.
Cedrick, however, just nodded.
“Seriously, boss, why have you been in such a slump lately?
Like
you just got dumped by some innocent college girl!”
David said to him.
Harlan sighed. “Cedrick, it’ll get better with time. You’re just not used to it yet. Don’t overthink it. So many people in the company depend on you. This collaboration with Rossi has to be a success; we can’t afford to fail.”

Cedrick took a deep breath. “Yeah, I know.”
“Oh, right.”

Harlan said, “You asked last time who that man with Lucille was. I found out. It’s her cousin. Robert. Did you know Lucille has an aunt who’s been living abroad?
He’s her aunt’s son. They probably met when she went abroad this time, so he came back with her.”
“What does he do?”
Cedrick felt a sense of relief after hearing he was her cousin.
“I’m not sure exactly. There’s very little information available on him. He’s probably just a regular employee at some company abroad.”
Harlan said.
“But…” Cedrick recalled all the bodyguards. “He has several bodyguards with him. That’s quite an entourage.”
“Pfft, bodyguards and security guards, how much do they cost a day?
Ask the security guards in our building if they’d do it for 500 bucks a day.
I guarantee they’d jump at the chance.
Hiring a few guards doesn’t cost much.”
Harlan thought that guy must have hired a few people when he went to save Eleanor.
Cedrick happened to think the same way. He thought what Harlan said made sense. Besides, he had
gone to pick up Mrs. Radford the day she was discharged, and the car Robert and the others got into wasn’t anything special.
“Alright.”
Cedrick’s mood suddenly improved a lot. “Then let’s go all out to take down Rossi’s company. Starting with the banquet, don’t screw up.”
“By the way.
Harlan added, “About the banquet, Mari wants to go too.”
Cedrick froze for a moment.

Harlan sighed. “She’s become really timid around you now. She doesn’t dare to say anything to your face. She secretly begged me to ask if I could take her to have a look. She wants to make some normal female friends and have her own life, instead of hiding in her room like a mouse,
afraid to go out.”
But David said, “Why?
What happened?”
David’s wife had been pregnant recently, so he’d been spending less time with them and didn’t know about a lot of things.
“It’s nothing.”
Harlan said, “Lucille is back. Mari is afraid Lucille will get the wrong idea, so she doesn’t dare to interact with Cedrick anymore.”
