Chapter 187
Lucille found his words utterly absurd. She couldn’t help but challenge him, “Cedrick, so your brothers badmouthing me behind my back, mocking me as a cripple–that’s their goodwill?
Is it me rejecting their goodwill?
Is it my fault?”
“Cedrick…” Cedrick frowned helplessly. “Didn’t they apologize?
Why keep harping on it?”
Lucille actually laughed. Sometimes laughter comes when you’re beyond exasperated.
So an apology fixes everything.
“So Maricela sleeping naked with you–was that goodwill toward me too?
Am I not generous enough…”
Before she could finish, Bang! Cedrick slammed his palm on the table, glaring at her. “What nonsense are you spout- ing?”
Lucille smiled without answering.
Touched the great CEO’s raw nerve again.
After his outburst, Cedrick seemed to remember his purpose today. He sighed. “Lucille, you always provoke me. Fine, I was wrong to lose my temper just now. But you can’t stay this petty forever.”
Right. Still her being petty. Her husband lies with another woman, yet she’s the petty one.
Honestly, she shouldn’t have spoken up today. Didn’t she already know Cedrick’s stance?
Hadn’t she resolved not to waste emotions on him or his crowd anymore? Yet she’d lost composure.
She stood up.
Cedrick pressed her back down. “Where are you going?
They’ll be here any minute.”
“Restroom.”
Cedrick visibly relaxed, pointing behind her. “There’s one in the room. No need to go out.”
His relief struck her as laughable. She hadn’t planned anything drastic. These last two days, she’d promised herself:

endure everything. Small impatience ruins big plans.
While still in the restroom, noise came from outside. Harlan and Maricela had arrived.
Maricela immediately asked for the menu upon entering. Cedrick said he’d already ordered.
“Cedrick, you didn’t get the set menu, did you?
Those always cram in cheap stuff I hate.”
Maricela chattered away.
“Of course not. Ordered all your favorites. See if you want anything else.”
Lucille washed her hands facing the mirror, amused again. So that line belonged to Maricela too.

Maricela must have finished reviewing the order. Her satisfied tone carried through. “All my favorites! Knew it, Cedrick!
You’re the person who knows me best in the whole world!”
Cedrick’s hearty laughter rang out.
Yes. The person who knew Maricela best in the whole world was none other than Cedrick. After all, Cedrick knew precisely nothing about his own wife’s preferences…
Lucille suddenly didn’t want to step out just yet. Eavesdropping could be rather amusing sometimes.
Maricela asked again, “Cedrick, are you taking time off the day after tomorrow?”
“Yep, first real vacation in years,” Cedrick replied with a smile.
“Cedrick, how about we go to the islands? Remember? You promised ages ago, but you guys kept burying yourselves in work every single summer… Hmph…” Maricela hummed petulantly.
Cedrick had indeed promised Lucille and Grandma a trip. Lucille watched intently to see how he’d respond.
She was certain Cedrick hesitated–just for a split second–before agreeing, “Sure, let’s go to the islands.”
Harlan chuckled, “Oho! So you’re dumping work on us while you two lovebirds getaway?”
David chimed in mockingly, “Not without double pay!”
Cedrick laughed heartily, “Deal. It’s on me.”
“And gifts!” Harlan demanded.
“Absolutely,” Cedrick agreed.
“By the way,” Maricela interjected, “didn’t you say Lucille was joining dinner? Where is she?”
Before Cedrick could answer, Harlan cut in, “Lucille never liked us–especially you clinging to her. How many cold

shoulders has she given you? You never learn your lesson.”

“Oh, come on-” Maricela said coyly, “It’s for Cedrick’s sake. If I were him, I’d want my wife and friends to get along. Today’s kidnapping… his choice must’ve hurt Lucille terribly. Apologizing and smoothing things over is the least I can do. All for Cedrick!”
