Chapter 335: Hardened resolve
I really thought i was going to die when i saw that i was bleeding rather profusely. I needed help. I looked up, using my eyes to plead with the guards and maids around but they either did not care or were too scared to approach me since they did not want to be going against the queen.
“guess i am coming to see you afterall.” i said, thinking of Andrew in that very moment.
I sighed, letting the air fill up my lungs. I felt myself black out, feeling nothing but darkness surround me..
**
“are you out of your bloody mind?” i recognised that voice. I thought as i closed my eyes. “if the queen finds out…”
“the queen..” the second voice, which i was very much sure was the doctor’s own said, cutting off the first one. He sounded panicked. “is not going to find out. She is going to the de
"pature ceremoney and she would be out of here as soon as she wakes up” he said, sounding in every way assertive.
“oh yeah? You really think you would be able to get away with this if the queen finds out?” you could tell the second person was also freaking out. “you think she does not know anything that happens in the castle, you think this would be a breeze in the park?”
“i know it would not but-”
“she killed her fucking son!! the only thing she did not do is raise a knife and stab him at the back” the voice said, turning from scared to aggresive. “and honestly, at this point i would not be surprised if she actually did that”
“Reandel!” the voice, the doctor, called, silencing who i was sure was Reandel.
“what!” he snapped, sounding so mad. “you cannot tell me that you are doing this for the late Prince when she is the cause of it all.”
I bit the inside of cheeks wanting to say something. I know that i might have been the cause of everything but at the same time, i could not really be blamed, like, i loved Andrew and loving him was as easy as breathing, but it was the honest truth that i did not beg him for any of that, he did that on his own and i did not ask him for him to do that.
I let out a breath, getting my self into position mentally before i opened my mouth. Reandel had his mouth open, ready to say something else before he stopped in an awkward silence. It did not stop him from giving me dirty looks though.
“i see you are up” he spat, unable to keep whatever it was that he wanted to say at bay.
I cleared my throat, looking at my side then the doctor. “thank you” i said, grateful that i was not left to bleed to death.
He nodded, looking at me with a smile even though it did not seem genuine.
“it is nothing” he said, going to go and clean the tools that were on the counter and leaving me face to face with Reandel.
“so…” i cleared my throat, trying to do anything to get out of his piercing gaze.
“So” he said, looking back at me.
“why… why did you come back as a woman? Did Andrew-”
“Caudly” he said, looking at me with a piercing gaze.
“what??” i looked at him, not really knowing what he was on about.
“only mates who love each other deeply or in equal measures can call each other by the first name basis. And you fit not in either of those qualifications.” he said, looking at me with disgust in his eyes.
“i don’t think you are in any position to tell me how much i loved Andrew” i said, emphasizing his name just so that it could piss him off just as i was being pissed off.
“disrespect him by calling him by his first name again, i dare you” he said, taking a step my way. I felt my shoulders tense at his step.
“Reandel” The doctor called, looking at him with a pointed look in his eyes. “would you…” he said, looking at me briefly “go check the location of the queen?” Reandel looked at me long and hard before he nodded his head, looking at me one last time.
“fine” he grumbled.
As soon as the door closed, leaving only me together in the room with the doctor, he started to panic. He did not sound like the confident man who was giving orders to Reandel previously
“how do you feel?” i nodded, opening my mouth to say how i felt when he shoved some pain killers in a bag and then looked at me.
“are you ready to get up? You can move now right? You should be able to. I gave you just the right dosage so that your wolf takes over your body to give you the right healing” he pulled me out of the bed as quickly as he could, yet as gently. “i am really sorry i can not do much for you, my life is on the line here, if the queen finds out that you stayed over she would end both our lives and…”
I looked at him, waiting for him to calm down. “the queen gave me from now till tomorrow evening to pack my things so i don’t think you need to panic that way.”
He looked at me, the look of pity in his eyes was very obvious. “that was two days ago” he said in a low voice which left me a bit confused.
“what do you mean? I can swear that.,..”
“my Lady” he said, bowing his head as he looked at me. I was taken aback with how respectful he was being towards me that it shook me to my core.
I looked around, trying to see if any one was around but there was no one,
No one, it was basically just the two of us. “you don’t have to be so formal, it is only just the two of us here and…” i took in a deep breath, not really knowing what to say.
“it does not matter. I have to be respectful towards you.”
“why?” i asked, genuinely curious.
“it was his dying wish. He wanted you to be able to live comfortably as long as you decided to stay in the castle after his death.” he said, like it was the most casual thing in the world’
“oh” i said, at a loss for words.
“i forgot to give you these the last time sorry.” he said, digging his hands into his deep pocket and bringing out a brown envelope. It gave off this sense of deja vu, as though it had happened before.
I looked at him, looking at the envelope sckeptically.
“i don’t..” i started, looking at the envelope warily.
“it is the plan that he was drawing up for you. He gave me the night before he ran out to meet you” he said, giving out a small smile.
“a plan?” i said, taking the thing from his hand.
I picked at the edge of the thing, too scared to open it to actually see what was inside.
”my Lady, we actually have to move on, we do not have much time” he said, his eyes ever so subtly looking over me and at the door to see if anyone was going to come in.
I took in a deep breath, ripping the envelop open. I watched as a piece of paper fell out, with a key and the Plaque he had given me earlier.
I was shocked looking at the doctor, Sevan as though all the answers were written on his face.
I went down to pick it up and it felt as though time was slowed down.
I sighed, my eyes blurring as i read the first few words on the paper.
LETTER OF APPOINTMENT….
I closed the paper, looking back at Sevan with tears in my eyes. “he did not…” i said, not being able to keep the tears at bay.
I felt my knees threaten to give out so i held out to the nearest thing which were the curtains.
“he did not know how you were going to feel about it, so he made sure you knew that it was not compulsory to take the role. It was only if you felt like it, and if you were to wake up and say that you did not want to take on the position one day, you were free to do so.” he said bowing down to complete his words.
I tried to control my breath, taking in several breaths to do so, so that i could think clearly.
“Sevan… right?” i said, my resolve tightening the more i looked at it. There was no way i could leave without saying good bye. “can you help me? Just this once?”…
