Chapter 19: Don't touch my mate.
~Melissa’s POV~
As I turned uncomfortably on the bed, I let out a small groan, feeling a sharp pain in the middle of my legs. The usual terrifying nightmares, and the usual tears streaming down my eyes—I've Grown so accustomed to these things, I could call them a part of me.
My eyes darted around, staring at the empty space next to me. Aiden wasn't here. Where could he have gone to? He promised to be next to me always; it was only the first day, but he was nowhere to be found.
My stomach grumbled loudly, hunger setting in. I gathered up my hair and styled it in a messy bun.
Bored to death, I strode towards the door and pushed it open, checking if I could see Aiden across the hallway.
As I walked further, checking corners and store rooms, I was surprised Aiden was nowhere to be found. I pressed my lips in a thin line, trying to calm my racing heart, but it never worked.
“Looking for something? No, someone?” An unfamiliar voice pierced my ears, followed by a soft tap on my shoulders. Shaken, I turned slowly, envisioning three women standing next to each other. The one on the middle was fierce looking and extremely pretty, while both ladies on the right and left looked quite ordinary. I raised a brow, questioning her actions, but I could see how her eyes widened with shock. Perhaps because of my ability.
“Aren't you blind?” She asked, her voice dripping with disdain. Her gaze was filled with so much hate, and I wondered why someone could hate me for no particular reason. I ignored her words, turning around to leave, but her grip on my hand made me halt.
“Where do you think you're going? Do you think you can walk out while I'm still talking?” her voice was hard now, stern and harsh. If a gaze could kill, I would have been dead several seconds ago. I lowered my gaze and swat her hands away, “Let go of me.”
“Ariana, are you going to let her talk to you that way? She's really a bitch.” The girl on the right said, glaring daggers at me. Her hands were calmly tucked in her pocket as she chewed on some gum, “You have to teach her a lesson for snatching what's yours.”
What's yours? I don't remember meeting or snatching anything from this Ariana bitch here. As much as I wasn't interested in causing trouble, Ariana seemed to be here to cause some havoc.
She took a few steps towards me, her eyes glowing dangerously, “You know what?” she asked, tucking a loose strand of my hair behind my ears, “Do this one thing I ask and I'll spare you.”
Ha, she must think so highly of herself. Aiden had told me about weak and strong werewolves. Merely by staring at Ariana, I could tell she was strong and brave, but that doesn't mean I am weak as well. I am a werewolf, so I should be as strong as them. I hardened my gaze, looking into her eyes, “ask your minions to do it instead. I'm not scared of you.”
“Ah, you're the bold one.” She sneered, walking around me like a predator staring at its prey, “But you won't be bold once you're taught a lesson.” she was standing before me now, her hands gripping my jaw, “How dare you claim Aiden as your mate.”
I should have known this was about him. Without guessing, I could tell this young lady was his romantic interest. I closed my eyes, letting out a small smile, “I claimed him because he is my mate.” I said, not in the least afraid of them. Allowing myself to get bullied here would only ruin my reputation as the future Luna.
Ariana chuckled darkly, stepping closer, “Do you think you're fit for him?” she asked, sizing me up. The other ladies laughed out loud, pointing at me like a clown, “Ariana, please.” they giggled, clutching their stomach, “she must think Adrian really loves her. Even if you're his mate, he doesn't give a fuck about you.”
My heart slammed against my ribcage, beating erratically.
“You're just his fling.” The one on the left chimed in, smiling from ear to ear. She flipped her attention to Ariana, “Ariana, I really can't stand her. She's blind and ugly. We should get rid of her asap.” she snapped her fingers, eying me disgustfully.
I balled my hands into fists, fighting the tears that threatened to spill from my eyes, “That's not true!” I spat back, “Aiden loves and cherishes me. I'm different because I'm his mate.”
“Then why isn't he here with you?” Ariana asked, folding her arms, “Why isn't he here with you?” she smirked, licking her lips childishly, “You should learn to accept that he would never care about you. Do yourself a favor and leave the shadow claw pack. Leave and never return.”
“Yes, you're not welcome here.”
“I mean, we don't want a blind bitch in our back. You disgust me.”
“Look at how rough she's dressed. Oops, forgot you were blind for a second.”
Heaven knows how much I hate the word “Blind.” but they said it anyways. I bit my lips, ignored their words and turned around to leave, but Ariana pulled me again, this time, her grip was harder, “Where do you think you're going?” she spat, dragging me down the stairs, “You're going to leave this pack this instant. You're a sly bitch!”
“Let me go this instant!” I snapped, struggling under her grasp, but I was shocked by her unimaginable strength. While she continued dragging me, a familiar voice made my tense muscles relax, bringing relief to my whole system.
“Ariana, are you insane?!” Adrian snapped, walking towards us. Right now, he looked like a knight in a shiny armor, handsome and charming at the same time. Ariana’s fowl words about him vanished Into thin air. All I could see now is a man who loves me for who I am. Adrian's gaze softened as soon as his eyes landed on me.
He turned to Ariana, “let her go this instant! Why would you touch my mate this way?” he growled, glaring at Ariana, “How dare you?!”
