Chapter 14: Last conversation.

~Melissa’s POV

As I tapped my feets on my bed, Aiden's words flashed through my mind. I felt his anger in my veins, and his pain in my heart. Hurting him wasn't my intention, but it was so hard to risk everything to come along with him, to an unknown place, somewhere that doesn't exist on the world map. No one would be able to find me, unless I wanted to be found.

I inhaled a shaky breath, turning uncomfortably on the bed as my eyes became heavy. Sometimes, I've wished for a night without nightmares, but that seems impossible. Every night, everyday, I keep on having strange visions, hearing strange voices, feeling like I'm harboring another soul in my body. Nothing makes sense anymore. For once, I just want to be a normal girl.

Fighting hard not to sleep was hard. I was scared of what I was going to see this time, what I was going to feel. It traumatized me, but I knew I had no choice. Cheating nature was one thing I couldn't do, and so, I closed my eyes to sleep.

My eyes shot open, but I wasn't in my bedroom. The energy here was strange, the scent that lingered in the air was strange as well. I was in an empty hall, a very large hall that seems twice my current home. Hearing small voices down the hall, I allowed my feets to guide me and that was when I saw her, the same woman I've been seeing in my dreams.

“I can't wait to see you, to hold you, and to kiss your soft cheeks.” Her dark brown hair flowed past her shoulders, and her Sapphire blue eyes were something I could get lost in forever. Her voice was soft, comforting, soothing, and as she wrapped her arms around her bulging belly, it felt like she was talking to me, whispering into my ears.

The scene changed and I could picture her bloodied appearance—it was smeared on her clothes and tears were dripping down her cheeks. Her tears brought a dull pain in my chest, and as she was being chased by those vicious creatures, I realized her eyes flashed red as well. She was also one of them!

A cry escaped my lips as my whole body was drenched with sweat. Tears fell down my cheeks, and no matter how hard I tried to stop them, they continued falling. My whole body trembled as I drawed my limbs close to my body, covering my eyes as I cried harder, wishing for everything to stop.

“That's why you need to know who you are.” The voice rang in my ears again, but I slapped my ears, shaking my head furiously, “get the fuck out of my brains!” I yelled, frightened to death, but a soft, melodious chuckle lingered in my ears, creeping me out, “Stop fighting the truth, Melissa! I am your mother, the one you saw in your dreams.”

“That's not true!” I spat, tears blurring my vision.

“That's not true! Leave me alone! Please, leave me alone!” I continued yelling, my voice breaking as I felt like my heart had been halved into two. There was a tightness in my chest and limbs, my throat scratchy as tears burned my eyes.

“Melissa”

Hearing the voice again, I let out an ear piercing cream, “Stop calling my name, okay?” I growled, not wanting to hear it. It was driving me insane, knowing that my mind has a MIND of its own.

“Melissa!” Thinking it was the voice again, I closed my eyes and covered my ears, but all I could hear was the sound of the door being slammed so hard, they could almost be torn from their hinges. I pictured my mother walking towards me, worry etched on her features, “Melissa, you've been..”

I didn't allow her to finish up her sentence before enveloping her in a hug, inhaling her scent to calm my nerves. My mother caressed my hair and sighed, “Another nightmare?” her voice was incredibly soft, calming my raging soul, and I nodded, unable to speak with my tear filled voice. She cupped my cheeks and forced me to stare at her, “Melissa, I fear that your dreams might be true.”

We were sitting on my bed now and her hands were tightly wrapped around mine. I stared at her, absorbing her features and scrutinizing every expression. Her last sentence confused me, but the next one she said terrified me, “I fear you're not like everyone else. I fear you're not human.”

I knew I wasn't, but hearing her spill out the words was something I'd never expected. It seemed like she knew all along, the whole truth but she kept me in the dark. I tightened my grip on her hands, fighting the tears that threatened to spill from my eyes, “Mother, I need to discover who I really am and why I was made this way.”

“You want to leave?” She asked, slight hesitation in her voice, and I nodded, hoping she would understand. It was a hard decision for me as well, but I couldn't continue living a life that wasn't mine, a fake identity.

My mother's eyes became teary as her lips trembled in pain. She wiped her tears harshly and nodded, “I understand you have to, Melissa. I know you need to find out that truth. It's just hard to let go.”

“Mother, I won't be gone forever.” I whispered, pulling her into a hug, “I'll keep in touch to tell you I'm safe.” Even with my comforting words, her shoulders still trembled as her tears ran down my back. I am her only daughter, companion, friend, it must be truly hard to let go. I understood her completely.

“Then I must help you pack up your things.” She said, getting up clumsily. “You would need food, clothes, water to drink and—”

“Your good luck charm.” I chimed in, reaching for my phone to call Tracy. It was just dawn; calling her right now seems odd, but it was better I told her before leaving.

Tracy's chirpy voice rang out, “girl, you just woke me up so—”

“I'm leaving. I'm moving from here.”

“What? When? Why are you just telling me now!” She shrieked, her panicked filled voice bringing a smile to my face. “I'm leaving by noon. It was so sudden for me too, Tracy. I'm sorry.”
