Chapter 10: Come with me.
~Melissa’s POV~
Giving my mother the silent treatment wasn't my intention, It was just hard for me to move on, to forget that I've been living a lie for all my life. Another day with my terrifying nightmare, another day with my usual dark world, and another day with a hollow in my heart.
I slammed the door shut and envisioned my mother covering her face in pain. She might be in pain, but she would never understand how miserable I felt on the inside. It was overwhelming, heart breaking, agonizing, but Aiden has given me the strength to move on.
Haven't seen Tracy in a few days now, and on my particular seat for lunch at the cafeteria, Aiden was sitting there, obviously waiting for me. I envisioned him waving at me as his mouth watering scent filled my nostrils, calming my tense muscles. Placing my meal on the table, I felt his cold touch on my fingers, “Lisa, are you okay?” his soft voice caressed my ears, and I shivered slightly, leaning into his touch, “I'm fine.”
I have no idea if it was the mate bond, but a single touch of Aiden was enough to send my body in flames, burning every nerve of my skin. I swallowed hard and reached for my spoon to begin eating. I could feel Aiden's intense gaze on me, his brows furrowed as he toyed with his food—like something weighted heavily on his shoulders. Picking up the glass of water next to me, I took a little sip and licked my lips, “Aiden, are you okay?”
His lips slowly curled into a sly smile, “My girl seems worried about me.” As soon as those words rolled off his tongue, I kind of wished I could take my words back. I rolled my eyes and picked up my spoon, “Haha, that's not funny.” I drawed, and he laughed even harder, filling my stomach with butterflies. It was probably the mate bond, but I loved the way he made me feel.
“Thought you were worried about something.” I kicked his legs softly and he groaned, his face contorting in pain, “I am worried. Just didn't know how to tell you.”
“Whatever it is, tell him you'll be coming with you. It's another step to find out who you are.”
The annoying voice rang in my head once more, but at a point, I felt like it was telling the truth. It was like a whole new knowledge guiding me and pointing the way, just like how it told me the truth about my birth mother. I inhaled a shaky breath and wiped my mouth, “Tell me. What is it?”
I envisioned Aiden running his hands through his hair before closing his eyes, “Melissa.” he began, which was quite odd. As days passed by, I realized he called me Melissa only when he wanted to say something extremely serious. He caressed my fingers, tightening his grip on my hands, “Come with me. You'll learn more about who you are.”
“No!” I snapped, pulling my hands away, “I can't leave my life and come with you.” His words sounded tempting, but wait if knowing who I am would hurt me again. As much as I hated almost everything about myself, leaving the life I've had here was quite hard. Leaving the group of humans to dwell with supernatural creatures, I was sure I wouldn't be welcomed. I pushed my thoughts to the back of my mind and said, “I'm sorry, I'm not coming.”
“But I'm your mate!” Aiden snapped, but I was shocked to hear his voice in my head. My eyes widened, shock spreading to every nerve and he smirked, staring at me, “we're mates. We can communicate that way. Come with me, Lisa. I need you.” I tightened my grip on my spoon, fascinated by the whole idea of mates. I loved the feeling, The discovery of new things, but leaving with him was just out of it.
I envisioned him tapping his feets on the ground, his fingers tapping the table impatiently. He was impatient, like he was running out of time, and that bothered me. Why was he so inpatient? Why was he so bothered? I slowly pushed my chair backwards and wiped my lips, “I…can't.” I said as I walked away.
As usual, everyone was seated when I walked in, their intense gaze boring holes into my body. Being bullied wasn't new, but I couldn't tell what I could do today. The last few days haven't been easy. Finding out mind blowing truths, discovering that supernatural creatures exist, and finding out a theory about….mates. These were facts I was forced to push down my throat.
I pictured Tracy smiling, her hands in the air as she called for me. Placing my bag on my seat, I heard her say, “So you're still moving with that cutie, huh? “ Tracy had a thing for gossip and I couldn't help but let out a chuckle. Her words were quite true; Aiden was kind of cute, handsome, breathtaking.
“What's that look, Lisa?” she smirked, staring at me dreamily and I shook my head, not willing to give her a response. Just like other days, Tracy bit her lips and grabbed my hand, “You have to tell me, Lisa. You can't deny the fact that you like him. “
“What? No.” I spat back.
Tracy threw her head back in laughter, “You're denying that with that look on your face?” she asked, trying so hard to control the wild grin that was spreading across her face. “Finally.” she smiled, “you're taking a chance at love.”
Aiden's words rang in my head again and I sighed. If I leave with him, I would have to leave Tracy behind as well. We've been friends since forever; it was going to be hard without her. I forced out a smile, “I—”
“Keep it down, witch. We wouldn't want you to infect the whole class with your disease!” A familiar voice floated in my ears, followed by the smack of a paper on my head. Tracy slammed her fists on the desk, her body trembling from anger, “You think she's the witch, huh? Says the person who goes around sleeping with every man she sees!”
“How dare you?!” Julie spat, and I could picture a blush slowly appearing on her cheeks. Tracy huffed and ignored her. I couldn't help the chuckle that escaped my lips. My friend, Tracy, had her own way of defending me, and I couldn't be more grateful.
