Chapter 155 Untitled Chapter
“Your daughter? You mean Sophia?” Maureen asked, then scoffed. “Wait a second,” her eyes flared up. “Are you saying Sophia is missing? Wow, what wonderful news!” She cracked up, and Elena, who was sitting by her with tear-filled eyes, cracked up too.
“Wow! I can't believe this! So you are not a skilled detective after all. Even your daughter went missing? I am so happy right now! Lizzy, you have fallen into these people's hands.”
Is that even funny? Does she even know what she is talking about? I am telling her that a little girl went missing, and she is happy about it? It is obvious that Maureen is waiting for something as terrible as this to happen to me so she will laugh in my face. She is indeed a monster in human form.
“How dare you!” I slammed my hand on the table, thundering at them. They went mute instantly, and Maureen folded her hands with a smirk on her face.
“If any of you dare to laugh at my face again, I will disfigure your faces and remove your noses from your faces. If you think I cannot do it, then dare me!”
My eyes teared up, but I quickly prevented the tears from flowing down. I don't want to look like a fool in front of them because if they realize that I am pained by what they just did, that will give them more opportunity to keep saying stupid things to my face right now.
“Tell me where my daughter is, Maureen. I am saying it for the second time.” She released her hands, exchanged glances with Elena, and scoffed. “I don't know what you are talking about, Lizzy. If you think your daughter is in my custody, then you are wrong.”
Really? She also wants to play this, too? Then game on!
I got up from the chair and headed towards the wall where the electric wire was hung. I yanked it away from the nail that was holding it, turned on the socket, and walked back to where Maureen and Elena were sitting.
The moment they set their eyes on the electric wire, they flare up, holding onto each other. “You don't mean this, right, Lizzy? You are not going to electrocute us, are you? Do not be a fool, okay? Your daughter isn't in my custody, just as I said earlier on.”
“Watch as I embed this naked wire into your bodies. By the time your skin starts to burn, you will stop messing around and tell me exactly where Sophia is and how you came into this town to take her away.”
When they finally realized that I wasn't joking, they started running around the interrogation room. And at that moment, I regretted not ordering the officers to handcuff them and chain their legs.
“We haven't even been in this town, Lizzy; please stop chasing us around with that wire. I am begging you.” Elena cried, holding her mother’s hand.
“That is correct. Since Samson took us away from this town, we haven't even dreamed of coming back, and we never left the place we went to. Please believe us and stop scaring us with that wire. You know how dangerous it is. Throw it away, or else you are going to hurt yourself.”
Now she is caring and worried that I am going to hurt myself.
“I don't need you to care for me, Maureen. You are the worst person I have ever met in my life. You had better tell me where my daughter is, or else I will turn off the socket, tie you up with this wire, and turn on the socket to electrocute you to death!”
Maureen pulled Elena away from her and stepped forward, wiping the tears on her face. “Lizzy, if you are still angry about the things I did to you in the past and the way I abandoned you in that town when you needed me the most, I am pleading with you right now.” She went down on her knees and clasped her hands together. “Please, forgive me for all the terrible things I did to you.”
Like seriously? She is pleading with me now? It is too late! This isn't the moment she needed to seek my forgiveness; she should have done that a long time ago, not now that my mind is already strong like a rock and nothing will make it soft again. I hate her more than I hate my enemy in this world, and she must pay for all the things she did to me.
“physical abuse, emotional trauma. I went through all that because of you, yet that wasn't enough for you to leave me alone. Rather, you opted to vent the remaining anger you have in your heart towards my little girl, who knows nothing. Sophia doesn't know you; you weren't there when she was born, and she has never even seen you until your brother's burial day.” I cleaned the tears that had flowed down my face and sniffled.
“Tell me what you still want with me, Maureen. Was it a sin that my parents left me in your care? You were the only relative left for them that would take care of me. They trusted you so much and gave you everything they possessed, but what did you do? You abandoned me and ran away with my wealth because you knew that when I grew up, you would have to hand over everything to me!”
“Yet, that wasn't enough. You returned to shatter the happiness I have built over the past years. Give me back my daughter, Maureen. I am not interested in your plea!”
“Detective Lizzy?” one of the officers called. “I am so sorry to interrupt, but you look like you are going to faint anytime soon. Don't you think you should go back to your office and rest for a while? I will continue interrogating them if you want. Or lock them in prison and bring them out when you regain your energy.”
He stepped forward, took the electric wire from my hand, and also my gun, which he knew I would pull out and shoot Maureen if care was not taken.
“Nothing will stop me from killing you if I come back here and you refuse to confess!”
