Chapter 38 Untitled Chapter
What! No way, I killed him.
“What are you talking about, General Lykon? Rowan died during the attack.”
“Absolutely true, Alpha Amelia, but it is all over the internet; you should check it out.”
He held the phone to my face, but I turned away, heading back to the room. There is no way Rowan is still alive because after the attack, his body and that of the other rogues were all dumped in the forest five kilometers away from the Pack.
They were all dead; we confirmed it. And those who didn't die, we had them locked up in prison.
Those were just rumors circulating in the media. They might have discovered that the Valtorium Pack members have fled the Pack and are circulating fake news.
“We shall go to the forest to confirm it, and you will take pictures of those rogues and post them online so they will all see them." General Lykon nodded his head and left.
Those idiots would have rotted by now, and the entire forest would be reeking in their stench; however, we still have to go there to clarify things.
A few minutes later, Hans and I left the room, and inside the car, I couldn't stop grumbling about the interruption earlier on.
Hans and I would have been enclosed in a romantic moment if that dude hadn't interrupted us earlier on. And to say I was going to allow him to mark me today. Gosh!
“We are here!”
Well, that was so fast.
“Amy? We are entering the forest; get ready.”
She stood straight, tail raised, ready to attack.
“Always ready, you know.”
I know.
At the entrance of the forest, the stench of the rogues’ rotten bodies hit our nostrils just as I had thought it would.
As we walked inside the forest, the dry leaves rustled beneath our feet, making it the only sound audible in the forest apart from the birds chirping far away.
Hans, Lykon, and I walked through the woods, careful not to collide with the trees that were all over the place, tall, and thorny.
Then we came to the spot where the rogues were dumped a few days ago, and they were still there, tongues lying at the side of their mouths, eyes stilled in one direction, and faces disfigured.
“See? They are all here, so who is spreading the misinformation that Rowan is still alive?” I asked the general, hands on my nose and mouth.
However, something caught my attention. There weren't as many of them as were dumped there; a few of them were missing, and even the spot where they once lay still showed their figure.
My heart stilled for a breath, and before I could alert Hans and Lykon, I staggered between the remaining corpses, heading towards the spot where Rowan’s body was dumped.
But shockingly, it wasn't there any longer, not even a trace of it. At that moment when I realized that the news wasn't fake, my eyes snapped wide, and my heart started palpitating. Rowan and some other rogues didn't die, and they fled after they were dumped there.
What was I thinking? I should have burned them all when they were brought there. Hans told me to do so, but I rejected his suggestion.
If only I had listened to him, then those idiots wouldn't have run away. No wonder the Valtorium Pack fled; their leader is still alive.
I spun around, looking at Hans and Lykon, who still haven't understood anything yet.
“Is everything alright?” Hans asked, paving his way towards me.
I shook my head, then pointed at the rogues with trembling fingers.
“Rowan is gone!”
My voice cracked, then I shut my eyes for a second to calm the anger rising in my heart.
“Gone?” Hans exclaimed shockingly, then followed the direction I pointed to. “How? He died that day.”
Yes, my thought exactly. How could someone whose limb I had detached from his body be alive? Did Rowan possess magic that could have brought him back alive? Or someone helped him?
“This doesn't look good, Alpha Amelia. Rowan is going to attack us again, and this time, we won't be able to defeat them.” General Lykon said worriedly, staring at the rogues.
But that was nonsense. Rowan can never defeat us as long as I am alive. He didn't succeed in wiping out the Pack at the first attack, so even if he tries for the second time, it will never work.
And if the general is this scared about another attack, then how will the Pack members react to this?
“Keep your head straight, dude; we aren't weaklings like Rowan and his members. And as long as I am the Alpha of this Pack, no idiot will set foot here to attack us,” I said with confidence, as I should be.
“Pass my order to the troops sent to the Valtorium Pack. They should return home so we can get prepared for any possible attack.”
“Yes, Alpha Amelia.”
“Can we leave here already? My brain can not take this smell anymore!” Amy snapped, then scoffed.
“I am working here, girl; if it is disturbing you, then go to sleep!” I snapped back and turned to Hans.
“Don't you think someone helped Rowan and the other rogues who didn't die escape from here?” Hans asked, jabbing a corpse with his leg.
And yes, that was possible. And that person must be their spy living in our Pack. He or she must have waited for the right moment to take them out of this forest. And since the forest is close to the northern border, they must pass through the troops guarding there.
Passing those troops will result in their death, so, in order to leave the Pack successfully and cross over to the Pack nearby, they must have bribed the troops to let them pass.
Whoever did that, I swear, I must find them, and I will make their lives hell. No one comes under my nose and does whatever they want. This is my Pack, and any spies from other Packs staying here will be arrested and imprisoned.
“Who do you think can help them, Hans?”
Hans chuckled, stepped towards me, and looked at me with a mischievous grin.
“Axel,”
