Chapter 23 Awakening the Magic within
For over two hours now, I have been staring at the hairpin, wondering why Hans said it contained a magic that only I, the owner, could awaken.
How is that even possible? Magic isn't a thing here in the Lunskye Pack, and I have never seen my late Dad or Mum use any of it.
How will I be the first to use it? Nah, this doesn't make sense to me.
“Just try anything, tap it, throw it on the floor,” Hans suggested, gesturing with his hands on how to do it.
But that doesn't even make sense. Throw what? Tap what? What if I broke it? I've got so many gifts from Dad, but this is my favorite. The memory attached to it is more than anything in this world.
“Leave it alone, Hans, if I break this, that is the end. Or do you know how to fix it?” he shook his head, sighing.
“I can't fix it, but at least try it. You know what? If it gets broken, I will buy you many gold and diamond hairpins.”
What a joke,
“Hans, leave it alone, I don't want to do any stupid stuff. You know what? I am not interested in whatever magic it entails.”
But Hans wouldn't give up. He kept saying he had seen that kind of Hairpin with his mum before she passed away.
He said she brought out that hairpin whenever there was war, but he didn't know how she activated the magic.
“Seriously, I ain't lying. She was the strongest Luna of her time, and that hairpin contributed to her power.”
“Then tell me how she uses it.”
“I don't really know. Just do anything. Have you ever put that in your hair?”
He asked, trying to take it away, but I stepped back, denying him.
Now that I remember, I think I have used it once, and the outcome made me dump it where I don't even know.
Wait a second, this thing made my head spin a few years ago when I adorned my hair.
“Put it in your hair, let's see,” he said in a giffy, showing me where to put it.
I sighed, walked towards the mirror for a better view, and exhaled deeply.
“Hans, if anything happens to me, you are doomed.”
“I accept whatever you will do to me. Just try it on. Close your eyes, and gently put it in your hair.”
If I close my eyes, how would I see where I am putting it? Ahh, Hans! Nevertheless, I did as he said.
As soon as I closed my eyes, Amy’s face appeared.
She was standing in a meadow surrounded by different colored flowers. The luminous rainbow shone brightly on her grey fur, casting a shimmering light across her fur.
Her face beamed in delight as she stared at me, and her blue eyes sparkled. Suddenly, she disappeared, and my eyes snapped wide.
“Hans? Amy disappeared!”
I screamed, but when I turned to him, he was standing there, mouth agape.
“What on earth are you doing?” I asked, but got no response from him. And as if he was pinched with a needle, he jerked back, and started looking around the room.
“Amelia? Where are you?”
Uhn?
“I am standing right here, you fool!”
He scared me so much, especially when he didn't even look in my direction.
I thought Hans was playing tricks with me until I turned towards the mirror and received the shock of my life.
My skin nearly peeled off my body when I didn't see my reflection in the mirror.
I was standing in front of the mirror, but my reflection wasn't visible.
“Don't you know what this is? We are invisible!” Amy shrieked in excitement.
What! Invisible? That is what the hairpin does? Omg! We are invisible!
This is so sick!
“Amelia, where are you?” Seeing Hans so restless cracked me up. He looked so worried, like he was going to cry.
“Should we play a prank on him?” I mind-linked Amy, walking towards Hans.
“Sure, let's do it.”
When I approached him, Kael jumped out, snarling at me with teeth clutched as if he sensed danger. Then he sniffled, and his face slowly loosened.
Hans returned to his form and gasped in surprise.
“Amelia? Stop playing pranks with me, I can smell you.” he dropped his hand on his waist.
Argh! What a bummer.
I removed the hairpin and saw my reflection in the mirror.
“Wow!” we exclaimed simultaneously.
“Is there anything else this hairpin can do?” I am curious too. Maybe it entails a lot of magic that I haven't known yet.
“Tell me, apart from being invisible, what other things could your mum do when she was alive?”
Hans hesitated for a while, probably thinking.
“I don't know, but there is a book in her room where she writes everything about her life.”
“A diary?”
“Yes, that. If I can get a hold of it, we might learn more about the hairpin.”
That's great! But doesn't it mean he must go to the Arkonix Pack? What if Hams sees him? That jerk will pick a fight with Hans.
Oh, wait a second, he can not defeat Hans, Hans is stronger than him.
“When are you departing?”
A gasp broke out of his mouth.
“You aren't even stopping me now?”
“Why should I when you are strong? Hams won't try anything with you, Hans; you are stronger than he is. Don't you remember what you did to him a few weeks ago when he came here?”
Gosh! That was so funny. And interesting to watch.
“Okay, I will go. But before that, I think you should hide the hairpin somewhere,”
“Why? Because you are scared I will turn invisible and hurt you? Come on, dude, you are an Alpha. And you can sniff my scent!”
“Sure thing. Don't just play any prank on me.”
Whatever!
How I wish this hairpin could transport me to places without me stepping out of my room.
“Why don't you close your eyes and make a wish? Maybe it will work that way, too.” Amy suggested, and she sounded so sure of it.
Okay…
I clutch it in my hand, close my eyes, and make a wish.
Wait, what! It worked!
