Chapter 22 Rogues, in my Pack?
Rogues in our borders? My eyes snapped wide, and I sprang to my feet.
“What did you just say?”
Rogues? How dare they!
My blood started raging, and I clutched my fingers on the table, breathing out smoke.
Are they trying to attack us or what? Who sent them?
“It is happening faster than I thought,” General Lykon gasped, picking up his phone from the table.
Then he paused and looked at me.
“Give your order, Alpha Amelia, we can't allow them to find their way into this Pack.”
Of course, I will. And since there are only three borders in the Lunskye Pack, I know exactly what to do.
“On my command!” All went still as my voice thundered. “Alpha Hans, you take a group of warriors to the northern body, General Lukon, to the southern border, and I will take the eastern border.”
“Yes, Alpha Amelia,” the general bowed his head and hurried out of the hall, while Hans stayed back.
“What are you still waiting for?” I asked him, getting ready to leave, too.
“Are you sure you will be okay out there alone? I want to fight alongside you.”
What da!
“Look, I will be fine, and we don't even have time for this. Why don't you go and clear those rogues? And when we are back, you can ask me how it went.”
I left the hall too, then he followed me.
At the training ground, the warriors were divided into multiple groups. Other groups will stay behind to guard the Pack while the rest go with us.
And to make it faster, we let out our wolves. Cars stopped as we loped through the busy streets, pacing for us to pass.
I could see the terrified look on the Pack wolves’ faces when they saw us in pairs. They all knew that would only mean one thing: war.
They've all been following Rowan’s threats online, and I hope they don't try running away from the Pack because of this. It will only put them in danger.
After two hours of loping on the road, passing through the streets, galloping on the grass, dodging trees in the woods, my team and I arrived at the northern border.
However, we were left with a space; no rogues were present, and we had no clue they were there.
The sand has no footprint or pawsprint; it was just as smooth as always.
“Are they hiding in the woods?” one of the warriors asked, sniffing the air.
But I don't think so. They aren't in the woods because if they were, I would have found out when we were galloping through the thick forest.
Is this some prank or something?
“Amelia, this was a false alarm. Rogues aren't in this Pack. I can't sniff them, I can only sniff the pure wolves here.” Amy stretched her huge paws, yawning.
Why would Axel make this kind of joke when he knows how scary the Pack wolves are since Rowan started his stupid threats online?
That dude hasn't learned his lesson from the flogging he received a week ago.
“Amy? Mind linked Kael and told him to go back to the Pack.”
We returned inside the city Pack, and after sending off the warriors to their training ground, I returned to the office.
Luckily, Axel was inside my office, doing what only he knows. When he saw me, his face went black, and something fell off his hand.
But I paid no attention to whatever that was; I was boiling in rage and could destroy him for making a fool out of me.
“How dare you, Axel!” I yelled at the top of my voice, causing his legs to wobble.
“How could you lie to me that rogues were at the borders? How could you!”
Axel fell on his knees, rubbing his palms together.
“That was the information I received, Alpha Amelia. I swear, I didn't make that up, please believe me.”
“Believe you? Who gave you the information?” My eyes darted to the thing on the floor that had fallen out of his hands earlier.
It looks so familiar; it is something that belongs to me.
“It is your hairpin, the one your Dad gave you on your eighteenth birthday.” Amy reminded me.
Oh, yes, that was my gift from Dad. How did I not even remember it? And where did Axel get it from? I don't even know where I hid it.
“What are you doing with my hairpin? How dare you lay your filthy hands on what belongs to an Alpha?”
“Please, forgive me, I didn't know it belonged to you,” he shouted in exasperation.
Is it everything that he doesn't know? I am fed up already.
“You will tell me what you did with my hairpin and why you lied about the rogues!”
Hans came in, wiping off sweat from his face with a towel. His jaw snapped when he saw Axel, kneeling on the floor, pleading.
“Why did you lie to us, Axel? No rogues were on the border, and no trace to show they were there.”
“Oh, yes, I know why. He wanted me to be out of sight so he could go through my things. Look what he stole from me, the gift my late father left me.”
Hans was surprised, then he took the hairpin from me.
“How could you do that, Axel? That is so wrong of you.”
This isn't adding up at all. Axel must be up to something. And it is about time I keep a close eye on him.
He mustn't be who we think he is; there must be something inside of him that none of us know.
“You know what? This time, I will have the Delta deal with you, because the last bearing you received from the bodyguards didn't seem to work on you.”
“That is General Lykon, Alpha Amelia. Please do not do that. I am scared of him. He will shave off my skin if you hand me over to him. Forgive me for reporting fake news to you; it wasn't I who made it up, it was sent to my social media handle.”
What nonsense!
And he didn't care to investigate first before reporting it to me?
“Amelia?” After staring at the hairpin, Hans caught my attention.
“This hairpin,” he sniffled, and held it to his eyes.
“Do you know what it is?”
What's the big deal about it? It is just a simple hairpin to beautify my hair.
“This is not ordinary; it might contain some magic only the owner can awaken.”
