Chapter 101 101
Danica's POV
It's been two days since the last surgery that broke the record of me being the other workers’ definition of a “perfect” Doctor and so far things had changed.
Now it almost felt like I was the first doctor to ever lose a patient during surgery. The whispers around me grew bolder with each passing day. Visible disrespect joined the trend.
Barely anyone looked at me the same way they once looked at me when I became the official head doctor and I have put up with it for two days because I still couldn't shake off the guilt. If only they knew how hard I'm trying to stay calm and unaffected.
“Don't tell me you've been putting up with this for the past two days, Danica” Bianca asked as she grabbed a seat in front of my desk while Anabel shut the door behind them before taking the seat next to Bianca.
“With what?” I asked, feigning ignorance but she rolled her eyes.
“You know what I'm talking about, Danica. You've been putting up with this utter disrespect for two days?!! They don't even regard me, ‘your mentor’ now!” She exclaimed and I almost laughed at her quote. Almost.
I shrugged once, pretending to be fine with it. But deep down, I was teetering at the edge of a fully exploding rage.
“They're being too much, Danica. And I don't know how this is still going on for two whole days. We couldn't come because we wanted things to quiet down only for us to come and meet this?” She added, glancing at Anabel for additions.
The latter nodded twice, a small frown creasing her brows. “They're all being mean,” she said softly and I smiled sadly.
“They are. But what can I do? Unless an official investigation is carried out, everyone knows the surgeon that messed up her most important surgery to be me. It won't change” I told them and just then a nurse walked into my office.
No knocks. No regards. Just a sassy stroll into MY office with mischief twinkling in her gaze, as if daring me to complain.
Of course, I didn't. “These need your signature in two hours” she muttered, dropped the files and then she was gone, the exact same way she walked in with zero manners.
She didn't even shut the door behind her. The dumb bitch!
Bianca sprang to her feet but I grabbed her arm before she could bolt towards the door because I knew what she could have done if I'd let her slip like that.
She would definitely end up serving three years under Alexander's strict monitoring and torture.
Anabel helped the situation by shutting the door before coming back to calm her down with me.
We spent more minutes chatting away with me trying to change the topic of discussion whenever Bianca brings up the clinic's atmosphere. And also me noticing that Anabel was weirdly silent than other days.
“Is something wrong, Anabel?” I asked and she smiled, shaking her head.
“I think I'm just coming up with a mild headache” she responded silently.
I was on my feet in seconds. Grabbing a test kit but she stopped me.
“It's not that serious, I’m just stressed. A little rest will do” she said in an assuring tone and I slowly sank back to my chair.
“Are you sure?” I asked and she nodded once in affirmation.
Within the next twenty minutes, I was excorting them both out of the clinic, not because I sent them out but because they kind of noticed that I needed the space and I had a whole lots of files piled up on the table for reviews that I kept piled up for days.
On our way out, whispers grew, and it sounded intentional. Like ‘yeah, we're gonna gossip and you'll do no shit’ kind of whispers.
‘How could she even bring friends in here after what she did?’ one whispered but I said nothing. I didn't even mark his face.
‘I know right? She's such a despicable bitch, ain't she?’ another muttered but surprisingly enough, even Bianca was calm.
‘How can a murderer even remain our head doctor? We all know Miss Renee deserves the position more…” she didn't get to finish that statement. Bianca was this close to grabbing the blabbermouth by her hair but I beat her to it.
I pulled her hair into a death grip, bringing her face close to mine as a deadly smirk curled up my lips.
“Hey, have you ever heard of the statement ‘don’t mess with the wrong person’?” I asked, my voice a whisper against her ear.
My grip tightened when she gave me no response.
“Have you?” I asked, my expression going so sour within seconds.
She nodded quickly.
“Wanna take a wild guess of who that statement points at?” I asked and she shook her head quickly… or at least she tried to.
“Me!” I muttered sternly, my eyes wild as I stared right into her wide eyeballs.
“Now, guess who the bitch here is” I said and she began wriggling out of my grip, but my palm collided with her chin hard.
“I told you to guess who the bitch around here was, but you couldn't even do that. Why? Because you know you're the biggest bitch?” I asked and her eyes immediately watered because by each passing second, my grip kept tightening around her hair.
‘What the fuck is she pulling now?’
‘Imagine resorting to violence after securing a criminal record to her name’
The comments went on and I laughed.
I laughed so hard that everyone probably wondered if I had gone mad officially.
“Hey… that's more reason why you should never mess with me, bitches. I don't mind adding one more criminal record to that list, and who knows? You could be the direct next on that darned list.” I muttered before pushing her off effortlessly.
She stumbled against another nurse and they both went tumbling before falling face first to the ground.
“Now, get back to work unless you want me to show you who is in charge here… in the hardest way!” I said sternly, barely noticing the change in my voice.
“Oh my… Danica!!!” Bianca shrieked as soon as we got out of the clinic.
“What?”
“That was the hottest thing I've ever seen you do, my dearest friend” she said in a sing-song voice but somehow I didn't find it funny.
“Ohh— she's seriously fuming.” She pointed after noticing my silence… but what's worse? Neither of them came close for the next fifteen minutes, even though we were all on a walk together.
“Were you seriously avoiding me? For real?” I blurted when the silence became suffocating.
“Yeah, trust me, no one wants a bracelet blast after that show you pulled back there” Bianca murmured, pointing at my hand. I followed her gaze and there it was. My bracelet, glowing brighter than it had ever done before.
