Chapter 17
"Exactly! We're enough to sideline her!"
"Besides, I haven't restored Isabelle's position at the Spencer Group. She doesn't even have an office—how can she run a project?"
"Grandpa, you're so smart! I bet it won't be more than a few days before Isabelle voluntarily resigns! When that happens, we'll just let her have her name on the project while we actually hold the power!"
Evelyn and the others all gave thumbs up.
"Evelyn, once Isabelle voluntarily resigns, you'll take over as project manager." Frank's eyes were full of affection.
"Thank you, Grandpa!" Evelyn smiled.
That evening, Kane had just put Winnie to sleep.
A moment later, Isabelle walked out of the bathroom, fresh from her shower.
Isabelle's damp hair draped over her shoulders. Her tall figure was wrapped only in a bath towel, revealing her long legs and delicate shoulders.
Under the lights, she seemed to glow.
So beautiful!
"Pretty?"
Isabelle saw Kane and did a little spin.
The already short towel fluttered up, giving teasing glimpses of what lay beneath.
"Gorgeous!"
Kane nodded eagerly.
This wasn't flattery—it was genuine praise from the heart.
Isabelle was already stunning, and even after having a child, she maintained her figure beautifully.
But why was she asking?
The next moment, to his surprise, Isabelle bent down and kissed Kane on the lips.
Kane's eyes widened.
Isabelle's eyes were closed.
From a simple kiss to a passionate response, things got heated quickly and seemed about to spiral out of control.
Could tonight finally be the night with Isabelle?
Kane and Isabelle had been intimate once before, but that was ten years ago, under the influence of drugs.
Since they'd been sharing a room, Isabelle had never brought it up. He'd been waiting for Isabelle to accept him before they made love again.
He hadn't expected the surprise to come so soon!
Kane couldn't help feeling excited!
Suddenly, she bit his tongue, and he quickly released her.
"That was your reward. Get some sleep."
To his surprise, Isabelle quickly dove under the covers.
She buried her head, her face flushed red all the way to her ears.
Wait, that's it?
Kane was dumbfounded and had no choice but to head to the bathroom.
Of course, he just took a cold shower and did nothing else.
Isabelle felt a bit guilty, wondering if this might be bad for Kane's health, but she couldn't accept him just yet—after all, she and Kane had only known each other for a few days.
The next day.
Isabelle was full of ambition, ready to show what she could do.
She was no figurehead.
Ten years ago, she was Harborview City's business prodigy—countless wealthy families had wanted to marry her!
But to her surprise, when Kane and Isabelle arrived at the company, they were told that Isabelle's former office was now under the Spencer family's control, and their project department needed to find another location!
Just then, Evelyn and the others drove up.
"Isabelle, you're not going to make us work on the street, are you?"
"If we work on the street, we'll be in the news tomorrow, and you'll have completely embarrassed the Spencer family!"
"The project may belong to Isabelle Group, but the client is actually the government. If government officials find out, we're finished!"
"I'm calling Grandpa!"
Isabelle called Frank.
But Frank told Isabelle that he'd put her in full charge of this project, and if she couldn't even secure an office space, she should hand over her position as project manager!
Isabelle understood—Frank and the others were trying to force her to voluntarily resign as project manager!
She'd worked so hard for the Spencer family—how could they do this?
Isabelle felt so wronged!
Evelyn gloated, "Isabelle, I forgot to mention—I just scheduled a meeting with government officials. You're not going to make us meet here, are you?"
"Isabelle, I hope you can find an office space within two hours!"
"I'm treating everyone to coffee. Let's go!"
Evelyn led the Spencer family members to a nearby café.
"Isabelle, where are we going to find office space on such short notice?"
"How about we quickly contact a realtor and rent something?"
Jason and Isabelle panicked.
"That's all we can do!"
"I just don't know if we can make it in time."
Isabelle decided to rent office space.
But then Kane stepped forward. "I actually have an office building we can use as headquarters!"
"You?"
Isabelle was skeptical.
After all, Kane had just gotten out of prison—where would he get an office building?
"Lockwood Tower!" Kane said calmly.
"Kane, don't do anything reckless!"
Isabelle was worried.
Kane was from the Lockwood family, but the Lockwood family now wasn't the same as it used to be!
"Don't worry, I've got this."
Kane smiled confidently.
Marilyn quickly said, "Kane, you said it yourself. If you can't get Lockwood Tower, stay away from Isabelle from now on!"
"Trying to cross the bridge and tear it down after getting the big contract?"
Kane frowned.
"If we complete this big contract, Isabelle will get at least tens of millions of dollars. Do you think you're worthy of her?"
Marilyn snorted.
"Wait for me. I'll be right back!"
Kane didn't get angry and turned to leave.
Because this was what he owed Isabelle.
Besides, this was just Marilyn's attitude. As long as Isabelle accepted him, that was enough.
Isabelle reached out to grab Kane but was stopped by Marilyn.
"Mom, Dad, if it weren't for Kane, we wouldn't have gotten this project. How can you cross the bridge and tear it down?"
Isabelle was upset.
"What does it have to do with him? He's just a criminal! Why would the Mercenary King think highly of him?"
"I think the Mercenary King has his eye on you."
"Exactly!"
"Isabelle, don't count on this guy. He'll definitely take the chance to run away. You'd better think about renting a building!"
Last night, Marilyn and Jason had discussed it and concluded that Isabelle must have attracted the Mercenary King, so they came up with the idea of getting rid of Kane.
Isabelle didn't agree with their thinking and thought silently:
Kane, whether or not you can get the contract, in my heart, you're my husband!
More than ten minutes later, Kane appeared in front of a building hundreds of feet tall!
Behind him was Bayonet, who had followed closely!
The building before them was none other than Lockwood Tower!
Years ago, Kane had spent hundreds of millions of dollars to purchase this land in downtown Harborview City, then spent heavily to build it. Now it was one of Harborview City's landmark buildings!
It could be said that it had consumed countless efforts and hopes from Kane!
According to Bayonet, the building had now fallen into the hands of Ophelia's brother!
"Has anyone gone to the grave to confess?" Kane asked.
Bayonet replied, "Not a single person so far!"
"Good! Then let's take back Lockwood Tower first and give them a reminder!" Kane's eyes narrowed.
