Chapter 143 Any last words
Any last words?
Damon pov
Thud!
He fell, dead before he hit the ground.
For a moment nobody moved, Elijah and Garth continued to stare wide eyed at Cornelius, now a cold corpse that lay on the ground never to run its mouth again.
"KILL HIM!" Elijah roared.
As if the remote was pressed ‘play’ The room exploded into chaos
Hundreds of wolves emerged from hidden doors and platforms, all charged at once.
I let them come.
My sword seems to vibrate in its sheath. Even the piece of weapon wants to taste some Righteousblood.
Who am I not to grant it wish.
“I smiled, crackling my stiff neck and joints, Finally, a real fight.”
The curse pushed harder against Daphne's spell. I could feel it cracking more, giving way.
“Not yet,” I told myself again. “Not until Milo is safe.”
I grabbed my sword, with a loud roar of my own, I met them head-on.
Immediately, Blood painted the white walls red.
But there were too many.
For every one I killed, three more took their place, and my sword didn't stop moving, reaping their Righteous life and sending them to hell.
Bodies piled around me. My shoes were soaked with their blood that covered the whole floor.
But they kept coming.
"Give up!" Garth shouted from across the room. "You can't win!, we outnumber you. You are just one man.”
He was right. There were too many, and they kept pouring in like mindless puppets. I stood like an unmoving mountain, milo lying behind me, as I formed a protective layer around him.
Not even a fly can pass through.
A blade caught my shoulder, a surprised attack, but then I saw it in time before it would do more damage. Blood rain like showers as I ended the miserable warrior's life.
But it didn't stop me in the least. I kept fighting.
The curse screamed inside me, demanding to be let out.
“Not yet!, not yet!!”
I cut down another wave of soldiers. Then another.
But no matter how strong I was, Grath was right, I am just one man. And I could feel the fatigue creeping in.
"Why aren't you transforming?" Elijah asked, his face filled with confusion.
"It's the blood moon. With the amount of blood you have shed, you should be a beast by now."
I laughed, spitting out blood, apparently one soldier had managed to land a blow when I was not looking. "Disappointed right??"
"How?" Garth demanded, his eyes bulging out from frustration. "How are you still sane?"
"Come closer. Wouldn't you like to know?" I beckoned to them.
“Arrgghhh” pain flooded my entire system, a warrior I had let slip pierced my side with an arrow. My vision darkened, black spots covering the edges but I held through, gritting my teeth in pain.
“It's a shame Damon, you would have made a fine warrior for the queen.” Grath said, coming closer. “But then, you had to come alone, just like we knew you would. The great Damon, too proud to ask for help."
"I don't need help to kill traitors."
"Don't you?" Garth smiled. "No matter how you are able to keep sane, it won't last forever. The curse is getting stronger. I can smell it on you. How long before you lose control?"
He was right. Garth was once a general of my army, that was already a testament of his skills and ability. I could feel the curse pushing against Daphne's spell. It wouldn't hold much longer.
That was why I needed to finish this fast.
I yelled, charging at the incoming soldiers.
But there were too many. They were overwhelming me.
I suddenly felt the sound of air shift, and not wasting time to think about it, I abandoned the fight and jumped backwards hastily, barely avoiding the attack of Garth who had sneaked attacked me from behind.
“That was an impressive reaction, I must commend. Let's try another one” he flashed me a smile, before disappearing between them. Soldiers, using them as a shield and distraction.
But I managed to block every of his advances and attacks, but that didn't come at a cost. Tears and wounds started appearing all over my body. Because of trying to defend against an alpha level threat, I had created more holes around myself.
“Arrgghhh”
A spear went through my leg, I dropped to one knee, my strength failing me. Blood gushed out of the fresh wound.
"It's over, Damon, look around.” Garth said, appearing in front of me, a look of victory plastered on his face. "You have lost."
I looked, and I found out that I have been pushed to a corner. Garth joining the frail had put more pressure on me, and without knowing it, I was cornered.
“Any last words… Alpha.” He raised his sword.
I looked at Elijah who was at the other end of the room, he had not moved an inch since the fight, but I know that he was approximately 2 times Garth's strength.
I looked at Milo. He was still on the stone, unharmed but barely alive. Oblivious of the chaos that was happening around him.
My heart sank.
The need to protect him overcame every other thing.
"You think you have won,” I growled, flashing Garth a wicked smile.
I saw his intelligent eyes twinkle, saw the frown on his face, but his fate was sealed already.
Risking it all, I forcefully pulled the spear from my leg and with all the strength I could muster, I threw it.
“Pooo”
The sound of meyal tearing through flesh sounded in my ears.
Garth staggered at the force of the spear that went straight to his heart. His eyes was wide in shock, but before he could say anything,
he fell with a thud.
The whole battlefield paused.
"NO!" Elijah screamed
