Chapter 78: Seventy-nine

Hope

The next day, Darius was in my room when I woke up. I was momentarily startled, causing me to sit up on my bed and say, "What are you doing here?"

Darius smiled gently before saying, "I came to check up on you. It's almost noon and you're still in bed."

I frowned, then turned to look at my window. The afternoon sun was much too bright and I got the urge to close my eyes once again and continue sleeping.

"Well, I'm fine as you can see. I was just resting. You've checked up on me. You can leave now. You've done enough." I didn't hide the irritation and annoyance in my tone, causing Darius to flinch at the sudden hostility he was receiving from me.

I wanted to take back my words but it was already too late and I was still much uncomfortable in Darius' presence. He made me pregnant for hell's sake! I didn't want to even look at his face right now.

"Oh, okay then. I'll leave you to rest." Darius' tone sounded awfully pitiful in that moment as he stood up from the bed and dismissed himself.

I let him go without calling him back and relaxed my back on the bed to stare at the ceiling.

"Pregnant, huh?" I said to no one in particular, then shook my head. "Not for long."

Later in the day, I went to the training ground to supervise what the soldiers were doing. This was because I had nothing else to do and watching them served as a good pass time.

After sparring with one of the men, Soren come over to me with a concerned look on his face.

"Your Majesty, how are you now?" He spoke with a respectful tone.

I waved my hand dismissively. It seemed like he was still worried about me passing out under the sun the other day. I'd have to reassure him that I was fine in order to clear my tracks.

"I'm alright. I just worked too hard the other day. It was a sign that I should take things more easy. Which is what I'm doing right now." I said, gesturing to myself as I was sitting down on a comfortable chair with a parasol above my head.

On cue, Kyle walked over with a bowl of fruit in his hand offered it to me. I thanked him and began to stuff my mouth with grapes.

"Okay then. I also hope that you'll rest easy. We, the able Lycan army, will protect you from any and everything harmful to your well-being!" Soren said, then saluted at me.

The soldiers standing by followed suit, doing the same thing. I had no choice but to shake my head and chuckle a little bit.

"The hot sun is bad for my well-being. Are you guys going to save me from the sun as well?" I asked with an amused tone.

Soren nodded his head vigorously, "Of course we are! We will bring it down if you ask us to!"

I couldn't tell if he was joking or being serious so I let his words slide. Then a thought made its way to my head and I said, "What about your king? Are you going to save me from him as well?"

Soren and the soldiers standing around fell silent. I opened my mouth to mock them when a voice came from behind me, saying, "Why would you need to be saved from me?"

I almost choked on my saliva. I turned my head to see Darius standing over me with his hands clasped behind his back. There was also a mischievous smile playing on his lips.

I cursed him mentally. It seemed like he was proud of startling me. This made my lips draw into a straight line.

"Because of your clinginess. I barely have any space for myself whenever you appear." I spoke with a haughty tone.

I heard people drawing air inside their mouths in fear. Darius didn't even look offended by my words. He only smiled brightly. And to prove my point, he placed his hands on my shoulders and said, "Is there anything wrong with wanting to be with my wife all the time?"

I opened my mouth to rebuke him but another voice sounded before my own.

"Your Majesty, there's urgent information."

Everyone turned to look at Orion who had just arrived to deliver news. I narrowed my eyes at the man. He only had something to tell Darius and not me. How annoying. He still hadn't fully accepted me as the queen. He and his annoying wife. Hmph.

Darius said an apology to me, then excused himself and followed Orion to wherever.

I frowned once their figures disappeared from my line of vision, then I turned back to my bowl of fruits. I had just peeled a banana and took a bite of it when I suddenly got the urge to throw up.

Kyle quickly noticed this and helped me out. After puking my guts out, I felt a painful headache wash over me. But I pushed through the ache to wash my mouth and face.

After that, I decided to leave the training ground to those who needed training and resign to my room. I laid down on the bed with a heavy head as the world around me spun nonstop.

Why was pregnancy so hard?

My eyes moved to stare at my stomach. It was still flat. No one could even have the slightest clue that I was with child. Yet I could feel it.

I could feel it inside of me. Before finding out I was pregnant, I seriously thought that I had a plague or some terminal disease that was eating away at my life.

But I know now that it's not a plague. It's a child. A monster child.

I bit down on my lip hard.

'I don't want to be pregnant.' I said inside my head. Scared that if I said it out loud, someone would hear me.

Kyle who was still standing outside would know. Maids who were going back and forth along the hallway would hear. So I had to keep my thoughts to myself.

If people found out that I was pregnant with the next Lycan king, what kind of chaos would that bring about? Especially in this time of war? No. I couldn't risk letting anyone find out that I was pregnant now.

This was a decision made without care for the child inside my stomach. In fact, no one could know about the child because it was going to leave this world soon.
