Chapter 323 Help
ADRIANA
I ended up sleeping in Leo's room that night because I really didn't want to sleep alone.
So I decided to sleep with him.
In the morning, I had just opened my eyes when the door opened.
Hazel stood in the doorway, already prepped for the day and she signalled me to come out since Leo was still fast asleep.
I slowly removed my arm from under his head, trying not to wake him up.
“Tobias is here, in the waiting room.”
Already? What time was it?
“Hazel, I need you to do something. Go to his office and get the files of Lucy's murder. I want to go through them. After that, I'll meet you up at the house. We need to go through her house to know what her life was like.”
I'll just ask one of the guards to take me to Lucy's.
“You’ll question him alone?”
“Yeah, I just need to shower first.”
I genuinely felt like I could use a few more minutes in bed but that phase of my life has passed. At this point, I should be grateful that I even got time to close my eyes at all.
“Elijah was looking for you. He went to your room but you weren't there.”
Oh so now, he was looking for me?
I had nothing to say to him so he shouldn't be looking for me for any reason.
“Okay. I'll meet you at the house.”
I went back to my room and freshened up. I had clothes here as well so I didn't have to go back to my room with him to get dressed.
I looked at the clock and saw that it was almost 1pm.
How on earth did I sleep till this time?
My stomach rumbled as I left the room and I knew I couldn't eat until after I had seen Tobias.
There was no use going to the throne room. I would just seen him in the waiting room.
He was on a phone call when I walked in and he didn't notice that I was sitting behind him.
“There is nothing wrong. I don't know why she wants to see me.”
I wonder if he was speaking to his son.
“No, I didn't do anything wrong….”
“No, I don't think she's mad at you for reporting that she took you. Although, it was all very unfortunate. I wish I could have handled that situation better. Don't worry about it and got to school, I'll keep you in the loop.”
He eventually ended the call and turned around.
“My Queen! I'm sorry, I had no idea that you were here. Forgive me -”
“Tobias, I'm not a witch. I could see that you were busy. Take a seat.”
He took off his cap and sat down. I could see that he was nervous.
“Relax, you didn't do anything wrong. Well, I think I'll be the judge of that. I'll be direct with you because I don't have time to waste here.”
I could already tell that he wasn't good for this.
“I know you had a relationship with Lucy. You don't face to deny it because there's proof. I just need to know what kind of relationship so I don't pin you for something you didn't do.”
His eyes widened.
“I’m all ears, my Queen.”
“Were you having an affair with Lucy?”
The answer came quickly.
“No.”
Short and forward.
“Then what kind of relationship were you having with her?”
He was silent.
“Tobias, the only reason I told you to come down here instead of arresting you immediately was because I wanted to give you a chance to explain yourself. If you don't want that chance, I can ask the guards to arrest you.”
If he wasn't having a relationship with her, I didn't see any reason why he shouldn't be able to say what was going on between them.
“She was helping me. Lucy was my friend, my classmate and I asked for her help. I needed her to find my son's mother.”
I was confused so he explained.
“During her pregnancy, she started acting off. She said she felt like she was being watched, like someone was after her. I told her that she was overreacting, that there was nothing wrong but that didn't help matters. I even asked that guards watch her and follow her everywhere just so that she feels safe. As soon as she gave birth, she didn't even look at the baby. She refused to feed him and the doctor said she needed time. Things like this happen. The only thing she kept saying was that there was someone that was coming for her.”
I didn't know he was once married. Or maybe he wasn't.
“A few days after that, I came to the hospital to see her and she wasn't there. I locked down the whole hospital searching for her but she wasn't there. The only thing I could find was a note that said she was sorry. No explanation. There was blood on the bed, a little blood and signs of a struggle but nothing else. Nothing on the cameras, no one saw her. She vanished and left a three day old baby. All these and I haven't seen her.”
People don't just vanish.
“Why are you looking for her after all this while? It's been so long.”
“You're right. I never stopped looking for her. A few months ago, I bumped into someone just outside the pack. I noticed she'd been looking at me and I thought she wanted to attack me but when I looked at her, she looked a lot like my wife. I called her name and I could see it in her eyes that it was her but before I could say anything, she ran out and I never saw her again.”
It was all making sense now. I think.
“That's when you started seeing Lucy.”
He nodded.
“I told her about it and she said she'd help me. We were not having an affair, My Queen.”
