Chapter 105 Generational Cult

Chapter 105 Generational Cult
ADRIANA

I never thought living with witches would be fun.

I woke up in the morning and there was already food on my table. Everything I needed was at my beck and call and at first, I felt weird about it but now that I’ve been here for a week, I’m totally enjoying it.

Something happened these past few days though. During the night of the full moon, I hadn’t been let out at all throughout the day.

Then at night, the witches came to me.

“It is time.”

My eyes widened as I heard them say that. What did they mean? Were they going to kill me now that they had finally fed me and I was almost as fat as a cow?

I didn’t even want to ask but I had to know.

“What do you mean?”

“Tonight is the night they plan to take you. So we will be here with you. No matter what they do, they won’t get to you.”

I didn’t understand what they were trying to say.

“Wait, who’s that? Who are the people coming after me?”

“The Antil Cult. It’s the night of the full moon and you are the prime target so we will stay with you and protect you no matter what they bring on.”

The full moon. Yara had said something about it a few weeks ago.

“Okay, so are you going to keep standing or…”

They didn’t even act like they heard me and they continued staring around the room.

“Very well then. There’s a chair somewhere around if you want and then you can also sit on the bed. I don’t think I can say good night.”

Maybe it was because I finally got my wolf but I didn’t feel the fear that I used to feel so I just went to sleep.

It was nine pm.

But it seemed like Yara had other plans.

“What are you doing?”

I rolled my eyes.

“Do you have to follow me everywhere? Why can’t you just let me sleep?”

“Because your enemies aren’t asleep! Wake up, Addy!”

So I did. The women were still standing in that same spot and nothing in the room was moving except me.

I didn’t know why Yara couldn’t just leave me be. I was so sure I hadn’t slept for up to ten minutes.

I looked at the clock on the table.

One am?!!

How? I had just closed my eyes.

“You guys are really creeping me out. When are you going to sit down?”

No one answered me at first and I reached out to take a cup of water.

“We will sit when the moon goes down. You don’t know what is going on beyond where your eyes can see.”

And I sure as hell didn’t want to know.

That was how we sat and stared till the sun came up.

At some point in the night, once it became three, they began chanting something I couldn’t hear and I just stayed there and listened to it. It’s not exactly like I could walk away when I didn’t want to die.

The room started shaking and I could hear footsteps all around like there were a thousand people in the room. Their voices got louder and it hurt my ears so I put my head in my arms and pressed my ears tightly.

When morning came, I didn’t even know when I fell asleep but I knew I woke up to an empty room.

Finally, the storm was over. After that, everything was basically calm.

Just as they said they would, they taught me a few things about wolves that had come before me, including the very first wolf.

“She was as beautiful as the goddess herself. Some even say that they were sure it was the goddess that had come down. The Antil Cult hadn’t been ruling at that point. They were more or less insignificant back then, like they were still trying to find their way around.

So she stayed for a while. She helped people, having the ability to heal and set people free from demons that possessed them.

Until she let her guard down and they attacked. That had been their plan, to make her think that they weren’t after her. They killed her, the very first wolf.

Valaris was her name. After her death, the Antil Cult ruled, they took lives and they destroyed property. It was a reign of terror back then. That’s how I died, they killed me because I refused to use my powers to kill people.”

My eyes widened.

“Wait, what did you just say? How old are you?”

There was that laugh again.

“Older than you can imagine. I was here when your grandfather of twelve seventeen generations was alive. He was an honest man. But he was brought into the cult when an ugly situation came up.

It felt good learning about my history. My father never told me anything. I wasn’t even close to him for him to tell me anything.

I looked like a child who was being told a bedtime story.

“What happened?”

“His wife fell ill and he had no money to treat her. He was only a poor farmer who lived on the outskirts of the pack. The doctors told him that if he doesn’t treat her quickly, she will die. And he didn’t want her to die so he went to his friend for help. His friend led him to the cult and they promised to make him rich if he joined them but he had to make a sacrifice for the person he hated the most.”

That was the craziest thing I had ever heard. Right now, I didn’t know if the person I hated the most was Hannah or Lisa. Hannah more.

“So that’s what he did. He didn’t mind because he thought his enemy would die and his wife would live but when he got home, he found his wife dead. And there was nothing he could do. His wife was already dead and he couldn’t back out of the cult.”
