Chapter 150 Stress
Caden's POV
Trixie's hands clamp over her stomach so fast as instincts kick in. Her breath punches out of her chest like she's been hit. She's im extreme pain. There's no doubt about that.
"I'm.." her voice breaks. She's in so much pain. She can't even get a complete thought out of her mouth. "Caden.. It hurts very bad." She finally says as she is slumped over, still clutching her stomach.
Every instinct in me snaps to attention. Drake tries to surge forward. He's pacing back-and-forth, snarling and growling for me to help his mate.
"Human, help her now. Help mate, she's hurting. Let me come forward. I'll help her myself." he spits out.
"Calm down, buddy. I'm going to make sure she's all right. I'll take good care of her. I promise." I say to him, but that did very little to calm him down.
I don't think, I move. "Eugene, NOW. It's Trixie. She's in a lot of pain. I'm going to get her to our bed. Please hurry." I say through the mind-link.
Coban's already beside her. Tears are already filling his eyes. He's freaking out already.
"Human. Seems you're the only one not freaking out. Just just keep it together. Help mate." he growls frantically as he is still pacing back-and-forth.
He is right on that fact. Everyone is freaking out. Coban stays right there beside her, panic written all over his face. He reaches for her and she whimpers. Her fingers digging into his sleeves.
"I've got you, love." his voice, shaking despite himself. "I've got you baby." he coos.
I scoop her up in my arms before another wave of pain can hit her. She instinctively wraps her one arm around my neck. The other cradling her stomach. She's light in my arms. Way too light for carrying the future of the throne. Her body is curving instinctively towards mine as I walk us back to our bedroom. Her breath is stuttering against my neck.
The bedroom feels too quiet when I lay her on the bed. Coban is their instantly. He has one hand in hers and the other is brushing her hair back from her damp forehead.
Darien and Lucian appears like shadows at the foot of the bed. Their eyes locked on her. They don't say a word. They don't need to. Every muscle in their bodies are coiled tight.
Eugene bursts through the door minutes later. He already is snapping on his gloves and putting them into place.
"Alright your majesty, let's take a breath." he says as he moves over to Trixie side.
"That's not helpful." Coban snaps at Eugene then he immediately winces. "Sorry. Sorry. I fuck!" he mumbles as he realizes what he's done.
Trixie cries out again. A sharp sound that claws straight down my spine.
Eugene's hands go directly to her abdomen. He's checking her out. He's completely thorough, making sure he don't miss anything. He furrows his brows and hums. He's checking everything twice. The seconds stretch, minutes go by and they feel like hours.
Damn can't he hurry up. "Human, you're the one that's supposed to be keeping it together." Drake said as he is trying to push forward.
"Buddy. Chill the fuck out. I'm fucking stressed enough right now and I don't need to fight you as well. After she's better you can surface and talk to her. Does that sound alright?" I said, hoping that he would stop.
"Yes, thank you." he says as he stops fighting me for control and goes back to pacing back-and-forth.
Finally, Eugene exhales slowly. "The twins are stressed." he says, as he is still tending to Trixie.
Coban freezes. "Stressed. How?" he asks.
"They're powerful." Eugene says carefully. "Very powerful. They felt their mother's stress. It translated physically." he said as he chose his words carefully. He didn't want Coban to snap at him.
My stomach drops. All I can do is stare at Trixie, my little mouse.
"You already knew this pregnancy would be different. We all knew." Eugene continues as he's hooking her up to machines. "Twin heirs to the throne. Their instincts are already reacting to threats. Even perceived ones." he said, as he finally looked up at us.
Coban's breath stops. He gasps a couple times as he leans down, pressing his forehead to hers.
"I'm sorry love. I shouldn't have stressed you out. I should've listened to you. This is all my fault. I'm sorry, love. I'm so very sorry." he sobs as tears are filling his eyes.
Eugene straightens. "The concern is this. Continued stress could trigger early labor. We need to slow everything down. Sorry, my queen, but you are on complete bedrest. Ideally, we buy at least two more weeks." he says as he looks between me and Coban.
Coban nods too fast. "Whatever it takes." his voice cracks. "This is all my fault. I pushed her. She even told me I was stressing her out. Fuck!" he says as he shakes his head slightly.
"It's not." Trixie starts to say then she gasped as another sharp pain tears through her. She screams out. Then the lights die out. Every single one. Darkness slams down on us. For a half a second my heart stops.
Then the emergency lights flicker red. Alarms hum. The deep roar of the back up generator shakes the palace as power surges back into place.
"What the hell!" Eugene mutters under his breath.
Darien growls, low and dangerous. Lucian's claws slide out without warning.
Coban looks more wrecked than ever. "I broke the palace." he says hoarsely. "I stressed her out so bad she shut down all the power." he whimpered out.
Despite the pain, Trixie let out a breathless huff. "Congratulations" she pants. "your sons just threw a tantrum."
That gets a weak, hysterical laugh out of me. "They're grounded already."
From the other room, I hear muffled voices. The girls are all panicking.
"Is she ok."
"Did something happen?"
"Oh goddess!"
"They're scared." Trixie whispers as her eyes turned towards the door.
"I'll handle them." I say immediately. "You focus on breathing little mouse."
Coban refuses to leave her side. He keeps apologizing, soft broken murmurs pressed into her knuckles. "I'm sorry. I swear I'll do better." he says as he leaned down and kissed her forehead.
Another pain hits, it's less sharp this time.
"That's it. Breathe through it. Good. Good." Eugene coaxes her.
Darien finally speaks. His voice is like steel. "No one get near this room without dying first."
Lucian nods once. "Including stress."
Trixie snorts weakly. "Good luck with that."
I take her free hand and squeeze it gently. "Easy my Queen. Your sons already think they run the place."
