Morning inturuptist
Morning inturuptist
I was awoken the next morning by needles digging into my thighs. Somehow, I managed to squint an eye open to see Luna chewing on my leg. What the hell? Gently I pushed her away while attempting to scold her. Sadly, the only sounds coming out of me belonged on a nature soundtrack. Carefully I staggered into the bathroom to begin my day. Luna followed me. That was strange. She wasn’t normally this needy.
She continued to follow me as I went about my morning routine. Jesse thankfully was already up so the coffee was already brewing. I padded barefoot to the closet after a scorching hot shower. Luna trailed behind me, batting at the belt to my robe.
“What is wrong with you?” Luna and I engaged in a tug of war for the belt while I opened the door. She dropped the belt with a hiss, bowing up into the classic spooked cat shape. Whipping my head around to the closet, I saw what had her fur up. A shriek escaped me when Jesse suddenly grabbed my arm to yank me behind him. The aqua bathrobe ghost was standing in the closet. I leaned around my burly husband to address her. “Hello. Whatcha doing in my closet?”
H gave my husband a dismissive look then focused her faded blue eyes on me. She wiggled a finger that appeared to have the beginning of arthritis on the knuckle at me. “Find someone else to help.” Message delivered; she walked through the wall.
“Well, that was dramatic.” Pushing Jesse out of the way I went into the closet, Luna attempting to climb my robe by the belt with every step. We both laughed when I let the robe drop on top of her. A naughty gleam came into Jesse’s eyes as he took in me in my birthday suit. I let him kiss my neck for a moment before I pushed him away as his hand started to wander down to my southern regions. “Breakfast isn’t going to fix itself you know.”
“I know what my breakfast is going to be.” We giggled while closing the closet the door.
Jesse had me pushed up against the door kissing his way down my neck, clearly planning on having some adult fun when he lifted his head with a disgusted sigh. He looked towards the wall to the bathroom with squinted eyes. With a tug, he pulled me away from the door. His stride stiff, he walked out of the closet. I shrugged into my robe on the way to the bathroom. “Oh my” I whispered when I walked in.
Heed my Warning was written across my mirror in the steam left over from my shower. Dire consequences was written in the steam on Jesse’s mirror.
Oh no she did not! I had just cleaned those mirrors. Obviously, Jesse agreed since his teeth were clenched while his green eyes glared at the mirrors.
“Oh, hell to the no! Come in my house and not just threaten me, interrupt morning fun time but, write on my mirrors? Oh, this ends now!” The unicorn slippers on my feet muffled the stomping on the hardwood floors as I hurried to the closet. Muttering about ghosts daring to invade my privacy, especially while my husband was feeling dirty, I yanked a shirt off a hanger. After I shoved my arms through the sleeves of a Kansas City Chiefs shirt celebrating Mahomes, I shimmied into my favorite low-rise jeans with excessive bling on the butt. Jesse watched with an amused look as I pulled my cowboy boots down off the top shelf of the closet. I stuck my tongue out at him as I pulled a pair of long socks out of his drawer.
Jesse leaned up against the door frame to the closet while I sat on the bed to shove my feet into boots I only wore for ass kicking or hanging in the country with my in-laws. They always make me feel unstoppable. Probably why I needed them when I dealt with my mother-in-law. The woman hated me. She claimed I was too city for her taste and somehow managed to bespell her son into moving into town with me. Truth was my banana bread was scarfed down faster than hers every thanksgiving. She hadn’t even bothered to make hers for several years now. If these boots could keep me grounded while dealing with that shrew, they could undoubtedly handle two ghosts that were looking to cause trouble.
“What if aqua robe is Libby’s ex-Mother-in-Law? That could explain the hostilities.” Luna trailed behind me crying as she tried to figure eight between my feet. “Did you feed the cats this morning?”
“MMM” My husband responded from the kitchen where he was plating biscuits and gravy.
“No time for breakfast. I got my ass kicking boots on!” I walked around the bar to the counter where there was a huge mug with steam coming out of it. A sigh of contentment slipped out with the first taste of the coffee. He could make my coffee better than any barista out there. A wicked gleam entered his eyes as he watched me sip the coffee he had made for me.
“I know how you can tip me.”
I shot him a lascivious look over the rim of my mug. “You wanna go exorcise some ghosts and then get naked? Maybe in the truck along some back road?” I wiggled my eyebrows. Not that he noticed. His eyes watched the way I made the girls wiggle too. His eyes rose to mine as he drug me over to him by a beltloop.
“EWWWWW! NO! You need Jesus!” Savannah came out of the hallway. She deliberately walked between us to push us apart. Her long blonde hair was pulled into a ponytail, the end swaying between her shoulder blades. She was still in her dancing coffee cup PJs. Only her glasses were on her face. It was so rare to see her without makeup or lashes or her contacts. I loved the few times a week I got to see my daughter. She was as beautiful as her father was handsome. Sometimes I had to wonder if there was any of me in there. After she separated us, her eyes fell on the table. “Oh. Biscuits and gravy! Thanks dad!”
“Breakfast then ghost ass kicking.”
