Chapter 15

Xaxas

I sat in his office, eating the Skeettles he gave me. They were sour, like unripe fruit or citrus, though I enjoyed them for some reason. There was a knock on the door, along with three men, though one was dressed in white and red. The gold pin over his heart was the sign of the sun, though I could only smell sin off him. I didn’t know what he’d done to carry it, probably murder of the innocent, however it didn’t matter. What mattered was their overall behavior, which I was dissatisfied with.

“Ah a pleasure as always Urtagiel. Light be with you Pure One.” He smiled.

“And with you Father. Please sit.” He motioned, though there were sneers given my direction.

“I understand your… hospitality toward this creature, however I shall stand.” He said pulling out a handkerchief from his pocket, and holding it to his nose.

Before I could say anything, the Chief’s horn came out his head. “Father, I must insist. The High King is my king, yours as well; you all just refuse to acknowledge it. To insult him is to dishonor the Holy Seat, and his ruling of respect toward our leaders.” He chastised. There was a faint white glow around him, making me feel unnaturally calm, though nothing else. I could still do as I pleased. I assume a lesser immortal would be immobilized by that spell.

“Very well…. Though I don’t understand why he isn’t in cuffs.” He grumbled. The Chief sighed.

“This room is for negotiations not collections. He committed an act of wrath because your people harassed him first.” He handed him a report. “Aeschylus made this report hours before, and it was sent directly to the Holy Seat, this local chapter, as well as you, yet none of you decided to do anything about it until After his act of wrath.” He passed them the report. The Cardinal stiffened.

“The Holy Seat still requests audience.” He growled.

“I cannot do that with the threat to my mate. I will not take her with me, and I will not have her killed while I am gone.” I dismissed him entirely, getting up. I had heard enough. I didn’t want her to have to deal with them. That was my job, hers was to be happy.

“He’s a member of the force; you all are prohibited from harming her.” Said Chief Sparkles. The Cardinal scoffed.

“I come to this putrid town that stinks of the Night’s work and you dare prohibit us?” He slammed his hand on the table and before I knew it, I’d gotten his guts. I reached through his torso and fashioned them into enough slimy braided rope to strangle him with them. He screamed, gurgling on his own blood and bile.

The other priests threw holy water on me, which did not burn like it used to… they were weak.

“My Lord Above that was water from the Merciful God’s River Humblon blessed by the Holy Seat himself….” Said the priest on the right, pressing the gilded sign of the Sun on my bare skin. It didn’t even burn.

“Stop…please.” The Cardinal begged, gurgling blood. I made sure to heal him as I did this, so he would live, but I stuck my thumb in his back and gave him a kidney stone for later.

“You will not disrespect again.” I snarled. It took everything I had to release and right him. Had I been petty, I would have let him have a taste of his own shit.

“Your highness that’s enough.” Said the Chief, horrified that I could do something like this. The priests looked in horror as their leader was fine, but his mind was not. I even made him a few years younger just in case.

He kneeled before me staring at his hands before I smelled fear. He’d soiled himself, but not from what I’d done to his organs. He did this on his own. I had already righted him. I looked down at the sniveling coward, and sneered. “Go with your life, and tell your King this world is whole because I have my promised. By her mercy you breathe, and by her harm this world Will burn.” They ran, afraid for their lives while the police chief looked at me in disgust.

“…. That was unnecessary… You’ve escalated the situation.” Said the unicorn, clapping his hands, and from them emitted a light that cleaned his room. The stench of man was replaced by lemon and sugar. Files were put away, and a sense of calm was waved on me unnaturally. I was also cleaned of blood.

“They disrespected, and for it they learned something today.” I said without waver.

He sighed. “Mother above…. I expect you to be here by 7 next Monday morning. You’re going through academy training like everyone else, and so long as you’re in uniform, you must swear that you will follow the law of this land.” He held out his hand for me to shake, and I shook.

“I think I can manage that.” I said with a small smile. There was probably a way around that little promise. I would keep my word; he just wasn’t specific enough.

“…. Lady fucking damnit Xaxas… I have to put you in a class two weeks already in progress.” He mumbled. “What size do you wear?”

I was a little hung up on the fact that he’d called me my name, but technically he was my superior now, though only in this context.

-----Harmony-----

The snow today seemed to be melting, because this morning it was just above freezing, but still very cold, and beautiful outside. I was on the balcony, looking at the traffic down below. Xaxas was out last night and must have driven in the snow while I was asleep. I could only guess that he didn’t need it, which would make sense.

I made myself some eggs and fried deli ham, and looked on my laptop to read any emails, reports or otherwise that I might have. And I did surprisingly. It was the Royal Court of Kings. As High Queen, I was emailed a login and password to their messaging system, and invited to a 7:30 meeting my time. They lived all over the world, though some were here on this continent.

I wondered what was holding up Xaxas, as I knew he must have gotten something of the sort on his phone too. If anything, I was a little excited, as I would see my family. I hadn’t seen the Wolf King or Queen in a long time, probably since I was about 15 or so. After that they stopped coming altogether, but it was more because they ruled our people. They were busy, and I assume they also were preparing everything for me and my mate, even though he seems keen on not taking his place that befits his title.

I had forgotten to get his number, so I couldn’t text him about this, but I would attend out of curiosity… it wouldn’t hurt anything to see what it was like…. And it wasn’t like I spoke for Xaxas. It was currently only 6:30, so I had an hour to prep for a Zoommie call. I took a shower, washed, brushed, and blow dried my hair… which murderized it.

I didn’t think they would care about that… it was how it grew on my head. Heat was the enemy. It makes the hair fluff more than usual, but it was still curled. My Grandma eclipse was a dark tan, and grandpa Kaiden’s grandma was from Africa with curly hair, so most of us had fluffy curls. Well, most of the girls anyway. Skin tone and hair with wolves didn’t matter, as long as we Looked human enough to pass. Our hair, eyes, and skin variation didn’t always mimic humans, or even our parents, but it was good enough.

I let some of my curls loose in the front, adding a bit of water to make them spiral again, and put my fluff into a ponytail…. It would have to do. It was my fault for not letting it air dry. My outfit was a blue deep V-neck to show off my still somewhat raw marking and some comfortable leggings. They would only see the dining room table, the patio door, and the big kitchen behind me, so it wouldn’t matter. I also opted to put on matching sapphire blue eyeshadow and pink lipstick. I tried being professional…

And professional they were. Everyone was in formal attire regardless of the backgrounds they were in front of. It seemed most were in offices, however me, Grandpa Jerold, and the Beast King were somewhere else. I think the Beast King was the only one outside.

However, the one who worried me most was the old man with white hair… the Sign of the Sun was behind him in his brown leather chair, with white walls and a gilded sun that made a large halo around his torso. He looked at me sternly, well I assume everyone… but I swear his gaze looked into my soul…. I didn’t like it.

My Grandfather, the Wolf King, cleared his throat to get everyone’s attention.

“This meeting is rushed, forgive me for calling it so soon and so early for some of us, however it was deemed necessary. As many of you know the High King has risen, though he will likely not grace us with his presence this morning. He has claimed his mate, my granddaughter, Princess Harmony.” He smiled.

“I didn’t know you had a half blood grandchild. I most certainly thought it would have been Sky’s youngest.” Said I believe the Fea Queen Diana. Her wings made rainbows, though her look was steeled.

“Yes, it was a bit of a surprise that she would be picked, as she is a half hound shifter.” He smiled.

“Well... his mother is your creator and you’re her champion… also You’re the one who created the promise in the first place Ash….” Mumbled grandpa Jerold.
